Jason vs Zombies!

Postby Rigor M » Wed May 13, 2009 10:26 am

Given the recent glut of zombie related games, there may not be any interest in this. Speaking for myself, I love the undead. 8) There could be 300 zombie games and it still wouldn't be enough, but that's me.

Having said that, I give you:

Jason vs Zombies!

This is based off the Friday the 13th series of films. You play as Jason Voorhees, the infamous serial killer residing at Crystal Lake. Jason is upset because a recent plague of zombies has taken over the camp. They kill his would be victims before he has a chance to do anything, thus ruining his fun and his day. It's up to you to help Jason discover who or what is behind the outbreak and stop it.

I started this as a simple project to teach myself the editor. It sort of snowballed and now I seem to have about 30 maps. Also, try not to take it too seriously. It's just me being silly.

Features include various melee weapons, dozens of enemies, background soundtrack and sound effects and a few scattered custom resources.

Here's a few screens (click for full view) -

Epic undead battles! Sort of...
Jason3.jpg

Dozens of terrible jokes await you!
Jason5.jpg

A slow, headless zombie shambles toward our hero.
Jason6.jpg

Character screen and menu...
Jason8.jpg

So there it is. If there's little interest I might simply give this to a few select friends. If someone actually wants to play the thing, I'll try to finish it up and upload it. Regardless, thanks for lookin'. :D

* Friday the 13th is property of Paramount pictures. This is a work of fan fiction, not intended for sale.

How many surrealists does it take to change a light bulb?

Two. One to paint the giraffe and one to fill the bathtub with brightly colored machine tools.

Just wanted to say some things.

When you upload your games to the 001 site, you contribute to the 001 project, thus you're helping 001 growing. And I personally think you should decide what type of game that you want to. It's your game. People who makes zombie games are usually into zombie games, so I think there some people who is going to play yours.

If zombie games were boring, there wouldn't be hundreds of resident evils, at least one for each console, be it gameboy color or ps3.

LOL... I'm getting a sort of "You should make what you enjoy, just don't expect me to go anywhere near it." kind of vibe. That's cool...and I kind of understand. :D

I do want to support 001, I just don't feel comfortable about uploading something that no one will play.

So, I'm leaning towards just scrapping the whole thing and starting over with a fresh idea. Now that I know what I'm doing I can (hopefully) make something better and (hopefully) make something that others can get behind more easily.

Thanks for the input...

Hehe. I would assume so.

Only thing I don't like is the font. Otherwise - looks cool!

Actually, there is one more thing that could potentionally get you in trouble...

Unless your games name is "Not sure about this..." you need to change the subject :)

Done...

I guess I'll keep plugging away at this. Perhaps it can be salvaged.

To Miroki: Yup... I am a "Rigor Mortis" :)

To ZhugeLiang: Which font is not to your liking? The Health and title font are an actual "Friday the 13th" font that looks identical to the movie titles and posters. I kind of hate to change that since it sort of ties in. I suppose I could change the color to a basic white.

I think he meant the text font that you see when a message box appears, the one in the interfaces and so on. It's Arial, the default font. You can go to Fonts in the bottom of the Resource folder and change your fonts there.

I made an attempt to overhaul the Character Screen and Main Menu. Changed the font, added some texture to the background, changed the border and touched up J's hockey mask.

Maybe it's an improvement....

Haha I could tell you were rigor mortis for your avatar picture. :)
I think what people are trying to say is that you need a proper font for this kind of game. You can't make a zombie game with an Arial font.
Code: Select all

(plz don't ban me deeds!)
Check out these fonts, I think you can use them without getting troubled for copyright issues, unless you're going to sell the game. ;)

I can find plenty of cool looking fonts, the problem is that they tend to be unreadable at the size I need them to be. There's also the fact that many don't have a proper set of numbers.

I'll keep looking though...

My thoughts.

I saw this game and I though "Sounds cheesy" I lokked and it was. That is NOT a bad thing. I like the humor that you put in and I really like what you have done with the HUD and Menu. I think that you should release this game as a comedy-horror and then focuse on a serious project. You have skill and alot of potential :)

Thank you for the comments. It will be (and is) deliberately cheesy and I'm doing my best to make it as fun as possible.

I think this is the final Main Menu...changed the font again.

Yes, I'm still working on this thing.

Since I went back and overhauled the menu, I decided to go back and redo the environments as well. I'm not finished yet, but you can get an idea of where things are headed with the screens below. Much has changed...

Will you be adding some other horror characters to add a bit storyline into the mix? Like the Evil Lepercon, Freddy Gauger, the Grudge, Chucky, and etc. for Bosses who are behind these zombie feasts.

Not to be mean or something, but you should not have Restart as the first option in the menu. Pretty easy to click it, and then restart. Pretty bad if you have not saved... ;)

The game looks great though! PM me, I might help you if you need something :D

There will be a few other creatures but probably no other horror film characters. There is an explanation as to why the undead are running around Crystal Lake, but it won't be revealed until the end.

Well...Just be really careful what you click. :D As a side note, my current version of 001 doesn't seem to have a working save/load system...so those buttons basically do nothing. Hopefully by the time the game is finished I'll be able to use a newer build and fix the issue.

Appreciate the comments...and thanks for looking at this thing.
