As far as I can tell their are no "Good Missions" other than saving that damn dog (Which I already did). Can you give me a suggestion of another "Good Mission"?

Okay, let's see.

M4: That's exactly what they do if you're evil.

[Spoiler]
New Castle - Solving the main case there gives you some positive karma.
Windom - Up to 4 good missions there.
Mason City - 6 good missions here.

If you completed some of these missions, you shouldn't have a negative karma at all. After finishing up mason city, I usually have +100.

Haha, yes. The way it was done, it seemed the map ended on the zombie market, but it never did. ;)

OK, guys. I'm sorry for asking so many questions. I just suck at playing most 001 games (lol)...

The game really is good, I'm trying to complete quests for money so that I can buy the AK47. I might suggest (If you ever update it) making the weapons cheaper.

I'm definetely updating it, since the current version has a bug that makes the game unfinishable. However, I don't plan on making the weapons cheaper.

sorry if im turning against the crowd.. but this game has way too many bugs. ill name two. (because i cant get any further) first, when u first drive the car, and you trun left instead of right, there is a message and it never disappears. next, when u go to zack, and he says follow him, you follow him and the door closes on you. then u are stuck and u cant do anything except hit ESC. lease fix these bugs, game sounds good, but i cant play!

I'm sorry, no one has ever encountered those bugs before. When the door is about to close, the player automatically starts walking and opens the door.
About the message that never goes away, hitting enter should close the message.

Yes, the game has bugs, but they're being fixed as we speak. And two bugs isn't 'way too many bugs'.

Actually, I get that door bug quite alot in my porjects. It seems as though if you leave it until just the right moment, you can get stuck for some reason.

Hmm thanks. Consider it fixed, daproductions.

Update: I have also fixed the range for all the melee weapons. The punch range, for example, was way too high, as you could punch someone from behind a counter. Now you must be very close to punch.
This will help those who had difficulties killing zombies with the machete, in the very beginning of the game. Since the machete has a higher range, it's easier to hit n' run.

I get out of the car (Sarah stayed beside it, without moving), talked to the guard, went to the hospital and talked to people, then I entered somewhere but did nothing, and then I went to that house with the pink door, that girl came to me and then she, me and Sarah were "fighting", but there's where the bugs starts, the game was completely slow, and then I entered in the house (automatic by the script) and then the game stopped there... :(

Yeah that's an engine001 bug. When you get out of the car, make sure to hit Q or E twice, so as to make Sarah follow you. For some reason, when you get out of the car, the secondary character stays clued there until moved manually.

Most of the time. The AI for party members still is a bit flawed in this version.

I think he made a variable or dynamic object for the words positioned on a character that has them linked to them with a timer. My second guess would be magic, because Miroki is like that. ;)

Hahaha, I was in vacation just came back.
And just to clearify, it's not magic. Pretty simple: a bunch of fields that keep sliding upwards and are teleported to the bottom as soon as they reach the top of the credits border.
001 doesn't support animated gifs, does it?

Well, I've made it up to joining a masonry (never thought I'd see the day). Now I'm stuck in that snowy town with no gas and little money.

On the other hand, I appreciate the author's taste of music. From 70's to 90's, all good stuff. Either that, or he's a huge Guitar Hero/Rock Band fan. :D

Yeah I gotta add more transportable gas. Just so you know, you can go to the next town on foot (it will take some time), there are a lot of jobs you can do there to boost your money.
And yeah I play guitar, I mean real guitar not guitar hero's guitar, heh. ;)
Either that or stick in the snowy town, there are some jobs there to earn enough money to get you gas.

EDIT: Added a lot of battery rechargers and gallons of gasoline for the next version. Some are merely thrown on the floor, but most of them are hidden in the most unexpected places. Inside a jug, behind a lamp, under pianos, don't forget to look everywhere you can in the next version, as you might find very interesting stuff. :)

EDIT2: I'm updating the whole game to support 3d sounds. What does it mean? If you fire a rocket launcher and let's say it explodes 3000 pixels away from you, you'll barely hear the exploding sound (before, you'd hear it in max volume). Also, now you'll be able to recognize the direction a sound comes, which is helpful if you're being sniped for example. It doesn't seem something very relevant, but this adds a LOT to the gameplay.

It depends on how far you are in the game. You just have to replace all the play sound events for play sound at location. If your game is already done, then it shall take some time. ;)

Okay. Thank you all for waiting so long. Due to such long wait, I was able to pretty much rework the entire game: adjusted a lot of things, added many new stuff and took advantage of the custom interfaces thing - among many other changes.
Summing up: even if you have already played the game, it's certainly worth trying out this version.

The version changelog is located on the first page of this topic, but I'd like to highlight the most important ones:

-Fixed several broken quests in the game.
-Slightly adjusted all difficulty modes.
-Added GPS to the car that can be activated by pressing M.
-Added hotkeys for quick medkit (T), quick gasoline (G) and quick battery (B): items that are used quite often in the game.
-Added support for 3d sounds.
-Added Task Log, that can be accessed via main menu.

About bugs, I have played this game a million times and were able to fix most of the bugs. If you find ANY BUG please report it here or PM me. And PLEASE, don't get mad at me if you get a crash or something bugs up and kills your savegame: 001 is an under development project so it's not flawless.

Enjoy.

EDIT: Due to a major bug when using "Only This Map" checkbox with characters, many bugs showed up and will only be fixed when next version of 001 is out, with this fix.

You've fixed the bug where having a third party member breaks sleeping, right? (And the non-functional antidote).

Edit: Found a bug, which was probably in this for quite a while: At least according to the sleep area, setting the difficulty to easy actually sets the difficulty to the hardest option (which explains a lot).

On a non bug topic, the new menus are amazing!


Edit: Having to perfectly stop the car before exiting makes me want to kill something...

Edit 4: Why do I get the feeling that choosing anything above piece of cake locks the game at the hardest difficulty?

The language is the same of american TV shows. ;)
And yes, I've just remembered I forgot to change the difficulty names. :roll: However, the difficulty you pick works, only the name is locked on Hardest. It's no big deal, I'll upload a new version with that fix soon.

A change made on version 1.5.1 of map001 seems to have broken a lot of my character scripts. I'll need some days to go through every character and fix them. Sorry about that.

Alright I just HAD to do it. I'm downloading now. I think i'm gonna have to play on "Noob mode" though.

EDIT: I played until the first cave and it is very good. I will probably play more tonight. And now that I think about it I probably here more swearing at school than I do in this game :roll: (thats a good thing.)

Wow... I was just listening to it on You-Tube and it totally ruined the song for me. It sounds better in crappy MIDI form (LOL)...

I haven't thought of that actually. I barely get any feedback nowadays, so I don't know if people like the game, what should change, this kind of thing. I know there are tons of bugs (most are my fault too), and that makes the game less popular. Also, the fact that pratically no one finished the game is bad too, I wonder where people get stuck at - or if they stop before that.

Last time i tried to play it, i got stuck right at the beginning xD

Right when you enter the store, then the zombies come after you, i always seemed to die xD


Yet again, i dont usually play user made games, so I'm kinda rusty at the 001 game play i guess :P

Well, Numbers, you can set the difficulty level to the minimum. If you can't beat them on piece of cake, then you can always turn noob mode on. :)

When you are driving down the road there are sharp turns with arrows signaling you to turn sharply and for some reason you die fast without being hit.

Oh when I was driving back to the house where sarah was i hit a zone at the end of the road and it said the message but I couldn't move because it was a touch script so I couldn't move!

<o,o> Orly Numbers? Didn't you have a machete? 'Cuz in noob mode, zombies deal 40% of damage to you, you deal 200% of damage to them and you have a 4% bonus to critical chance. Summing it up, pressing control a few times with a machete should kill them pretty quickly.

AznaThira, have you solved the New Castle quest? If you did, then you should have headed east instead continuing to the west.

In The Bushes, that bug is very weird. Never happened to me in any of the 7 times I finished the game.

They all mob up and attack me like crazy, they do alot of damage to you amazingly :O

So i felt like a chicken and started shooting them, but i ran out of ammo quickly :*(

My problem was after I went to Zack's house and there was zombies. I had no idea whatsoever to do after I killed the zombies. I don't know if I had to drive past home or to New Castle.

If you turn the GPS on while in the car (M), you can see the whole map. You must go to that big mountain shown in the GPS.

I really liked the gameplay overall, but I'd really prefer it if the Rugers have had better AI... sometimes Sarah just sits there doing nothing, even when a zombie is right in front of her...

Indeed. My missions were flawless until 1.5.4, when two AI teammates began to 'stick' together in one square and become literally immobile. I'm just waiting for a potential bug fix before I get back on APO, I presume you too?

But my main problem right now is the heavy lagging in some crucial parts of the game. Hopefully, next version should have something to reduce the lagging.

Lights aren't my main issue. The thing is that some of my maps have many, many characters (around 80), and a lot of characters lag just like lights do.
Also, I plan on adding mouse support later on. Right now enemies have advantage over you for being able to shoot in any direction. 2-player option is another possibility.

Hmm. Perhaps. Remember to lock that if the player does not choose 2-player. I did an experimentation project involving 2P, and when I selected 1P, my 2P controls still worked... Big blunder.

Just assume some random guy doesn't know P1 controls, or JUST WANTS to use the controls when he knows that P1 is also using them...

Well, in your conditions, the player would control both characters at the same time.
Of course, one of the players would not always play, since sometimes John leaves party and Sarah does too sometimes. If I ever add 2-player option, I'd have to think about that.

Perhaps you might want to add scripts to check if the desired input is the same, and deny the change.

During the times only one player is there just make it so that both players have the option to control the one character. that way you can choose who plays the one man for any certain part of the game.

It's out. Loading game works again.
I tested up to the first boss and I didn't get any crashes/bugs.

I've downloaded it and installed it. It shuts down when I try to launch it. It gives a message "can't load game information from file:". Is there something wrong here?

Absolutely. All local content was removed before I downloaded. I uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times and each time the same problem.

I know that 001 doesn't delete all local content when you uninstall. I go to My Documents and remove the 001 folder from there when I'm finished uninstalling. Is there some other content that has to be removed that I don't know about??

Has anyone ever actually tested the download? I tried it again - this time on my laptop - and it crashes on loading.

It's a shame because this happens to be one of my favourite Engine001 games but I could never finish it because the versions I've played have all had bugs that make it impossible to complete.

Shadow, I've JUST tried it and it works fine. Did I mention you can't load a game saved with previous versions?

I downloaded again and had the same problem. Maybe it's just me...

I tried it on 2 computers that never had it installed and they both failed.

Having said that, how can I make SURE that the games are removed? I deleted them from My Documents 001 folder but maybe I'm missing something?

Uninstall them, check your C drive and your documents. That theoratically gets rid of everything.
Nonetheless, it should be a problem with the game, not your computer.

I guess you're right, shadow. I just received a message from Mike and he said I shouldn't have uploaded the game on the site. I removed the download for now, until there's a way to upload the game so people can play it.

Got passed the first town, then had to turn it off and go to bed. Haven't tried to load yet, but I'm guessing it won't work. :)

This game is so much better now that I can see everything.

I think I've found a workaround, those of you who have the data.1rc file from version 1.5 can put it in another game and play it from that .exe file while still using that game's version of the engine. It's still not much help to me though, seeing as I haven't gotten a version of 001 that can load saved games for about half a year now. :evil:

But I think that only works if you have the Data.1rc file from the 1.5 with you, and even that may have compatability issues.

Yes, you WILL have, at one point, a playable version of the game. :)

Basically shooting. Since when I started making the game it had no mouse support, converting more aspects like talking and interacting with mouse would take me to remake the whole game.

Considering there are people that can't get passed the market, I guess I'll just leave the bosses untouched. And besides, if the game is too easy you can always change difficulty. I might make a new difficulty mode if I see that hardest is not a challenge anymore.

eh. For this game I think you have a pretty decent balance between fighting and figuring. I actually found some of the figuring parts to be kind of hard.

I don't think the first riddle makes any sense anymore. But MIV, the game doesn't have all this killing sequences you speak of. In fact, a lot of quests don't involve killing at all. However, don't expect a demon to quit his evil plans by talking him out of it. ;)
Making nifty puzzle interfaces not only involves the knowledge of 001 scripting, but it also requires that you're a good artist to draw the interface platform (bad interface = bad puzzle) - which I suck. This is just a side note, though, not an excuse for not doing it.

I would have figured out the first riddle if it wasn't worded differently than I wrote. I wrote it in the "to suspect" form. Multiple choices makes the riddles too easy, but input riddles are hard and can get you stuck. I would suggest that you write several paragraphes, so thinking is a bigger priority than just randomly guessing.

Note that suspicion isn't the answer to the riddle, it is merely an example.

I know what you mean, but in my game's defence, the woman says the riddle is linked to the tombstones, so in case you don't figure out the exact word, you have another way to find it out. :)

The file is not lost, I removed the download link 'cause there is no point in playing this game without being able to save. The bug has been fixed, however I'll wait a little longer so I can add some more features (which I'm not revealing yet, still studying possibilities).

When Mike adds a new feature, he releases a quick patch for the beta testing team so we can test. Remember when Main Menu became customizeable? Now INN and Shop should get customizeable as well, and in the meantime I'm customizing mine. Mike's been adding some nifty features too, but he will let you aware of them when it's time. :)

No, just because you don't have access to the features it doesn't mean you can only play it when it's accessible to you. I can release the game with the official beta (I'm using an unofficial beta).

Could you create a jump point in the next version since loading and saving isn't working?

JUMP POINT= a zone that enables you to jump ahead in the game with a certain amount of weapons/ammo and all the accomplishments up until that point. It could be password protected so that only people who have got past that point can access it, or you could just keep the password yourself and tell people what it is.

You don't have to do it I'm just saying it's a good back-up and it can allow people who have played the beginning of the game the opportunity of not having to start from scratch every time there's a new release.

Radio looks good, but the placement would be better at the bottom left of the screen, next to the speedometer and the gas meter. Seems a little out of place when you place it farther away from the vehicle HUDs.

Also, will the mouse aiming allow you to move in one direction, and shoot in the other?

Wow. Just wow. I always thought this was the best 001 game ever. But this new version, it's so amazing! The radio, the GPS! The mouse controls! The mouse controls making the difficulty options make more sense! It's so perfect! :D

Downloaded, and I am quite pleased that I can now load my game.

Does the cursor (for the mouse) only work in windowed mode? I can't seem to get it to show up.

Yeah this was nearly impossible in the old environment. :) But with mouse aid and a wider room this boss is a piece of cake.

I'm playing it for the third time. I still find that the program really slows down in Lincoln. It's hard to move the characters and open doors. I wonder if there are too many characters on the screen for the processor to handle? No other city has this problem.

If you have a very good processor and video card you should run Lincoln with much less lagging. I have a bad computer so it lags hard for me. Mike has been working on ways to reduce lagging, it shouldn't take too long before he finishes that and then we'll see if Lincoln is finally playable.

Why don't you just reduce the NPC count? There are a lot of NPCs in that place which would be much better off as objects.

So if you have a bad tooth you'll just remove it? I don't think removing these characters is the better way to solve this problem. ;) And besides, it's a huge city it has to have a lot of citizens. Objects can't have no route too.

I'm going to dis agree. I mean come on a 6? Na man miroki is high class like louis vitton!
This Was actually one of the best 001 games to touch my harddrive. This was not just a work of art, but a masterpiece since wolfhunt.
I have yet to play the new version. Look When I played.

Loved the lighting!
The scripting was intense!
Then enemies were hard which is good some competition.
Considering he'd been working on this game for not a year but year's' Makes him a veteran. Now, Sir miroki! My last rating was a 9
So I'll play this again. And with all the new enhancements I'm sure it'll easily be a 9.

The final showdown is pretty hard, yes. In order to free Sarah, you must set the 4 switches located around the room in the right combination. The upper left and lower right should be turned on, while the others should be off (I'm not 100% sure but I think that's it). You only know that if you have a high positive behaviour by the time you fight the final boss. By the way, you can still finish the game without saving Sarah, and it leads to a number of possible endings (which can be a good one).

the demom is realy easy. It hurtsme 0 HP. I used much drugs and anabolic steroids in lincoln so my endurance is 1000 and my strenght is 350.

No wonder why the game is so easy, with 1000 endurance you can't be hurt by anyone. The drug effect should have been limited to 1 minute, it's a bug. Anyway, I'll put in my todo list and this will be fixed for the next version. You probably would have never been able to finish the game without that bug - no offense intended. ;)

Ugh, I was having fun playing, running over zombies and stuff, and as I left the hospital to kill the mojocola hijackers, My car ran out of gas.

My car had about 1 HP left, so I shot it, thinking I could just walk.

Yeah, Predator King, that hospital bug has been fixed.
I'm pretty sure that's it, Greg. I'm not sure either why he hates it that much. I was probably going to make that part of the story, but I kinda forgot in the middle. He just hates it. :P
@TheRunner: You can't runover people YET but soon that will be possible in 001. Right now 001 doesn't take mass into consideration so the cars just bounce when hitting things. Also, we can't set damage based off speed.

Oops, I talked too much. Well, it's planned, yes, but I don't know when that's going to be added to 001. It can be the next month, next semester, next year or in 5 years. When talking about future features in 001, you never know. :)

Maybe I'll add a side story explaining why John hates mojo cola that much in a sequel or maybe a minigame. ;) Or a prequel, who knows.

@TheRunner: I know that. You're not supposed to let your car explode. You'd take 1000 hours to finish the game without the car.
@Greg: Isn't it the right combination? I'm pretty sure it's a diagonal combination. It's either upper left and lower right or upper right and lower left. Try these. The combination is 1948, I think.

i think that's bugged. I did this combination and the demon still take any damage. but i did every the game again and the combination works! i killed the demon saved sarah, but the screen became dark and appeared a error


FINALY BEATED IT. I tryied to save sarah but the game bugged when i saved she. So i beated it with sarah dying.

I hadnt saved, yet I was getting pretty far, then boom, game closed all data lost.

Yeah sorry about that. How far were you anyway? You should save the game on every opportunity (press enter on any bed in the game).
Greg, what kind of error did you get when you tried to save Sarah? Was it a crash (program closes) or was it an error within the engine (message on the bottom of the screen) ? You should have gotten a cheat code when you finished the game.
By the way, now I get why you said it was too easy. You were playing on piece of cake noob mode. :) Did you like it though?

Easy? man I'm in piece of cake noob mode and is pretty hard, it became easy because the drugs bug, I became with 1000 strenght and 511 endurance. kkkk with these stats any game became easy.

Please I WANNA CHEATS!kkkkkkkkkk And that were a engine error, something like music do not exist.

You can't open that door with a password, you need to get out the masonry, talk with that guy near the masonry he will talk bad words and he will tell you about a letter in the library, then back to the masonry, get the letter(proof of randal's conspirancy) , kill some invisible hell dogs then back to the worshifull master.

shooting with mouse - WAAAAAY easier. Well, i can't really find a way how to complete the game... I'm stuck in that city or town... First I lose the guy from my party, then I meet the sick girl, and then i don't know what to do... I can't leave without that mother******, I can't find the bandits who stole mojo-cola(jeeze), When I keep driving to west I think my car just gets destroyed by something... HELP!!!

@haraldx: Well, you`re not supposed to drive west at this point of the game. You have to finish the business in New Castle before everything. First, talk to the bald guy in the club, then go to the hooker`s place and leave John there. Then talk to the hospital attendant and go to the house located west of the hospital right after. Now talk to the attendant again and you`ll have access to the rooms: look for Susy`s room. Wear the cross and go to the dark house located in the south western part of town. If you can`t decypher the riddle, you can find it in this game`s topic a few pages before of this one.

You didn`t accomplish a lot of tasks but there are some main quests that you cannot avoid in order to complete the game. Either way, congratulations. You know, I've beated this game before, so I know the entire storyline, and you know, the drugs bug boosting my stats, I kill any boss in a single hit.

And thanks the money cheat is soooooo sweet.

and miroki, I still didn't solved the book riddle. I just can't figure out why the book's name isn't All seeing eye. I passed all the day studing masonry in the internet. And I still don't solved the riddle. So what's the book's name? :?

I love the drugs bug. Please DO NOT fix it in next version. Without it I can't beat the game. The hell part is Too Hard. I think its impossible to beat it without the bug.

I will not have the drugs bug but I still have my super cheats!

Money cheat: allow me to buy the best gear

Save in any place I want: I will save in hell. It do not work. Its bugged.

Master skills in using medkits: Does this cheat works? I still don't find out what this cheat do.

And I will beat this game until I get every the cheats! HAHAHAHA your bug will be useless to me!

and miroki, if you don't mind, can you lend me that bullet effect? Your guns are awesome because that.

Which bullet effect are you talking about? The medkit cheat heals your HP by 100% instead of 25%. The saving cheat doesn`t work? I`ll check that out.

I say stick with your own unique characters. if you do use portraits I wouldn't use pictures of real people unless you plan on remaking all the sprites to fit the realistic look. I'm thinking that more of a grunge/Pierre portrait style would be fitting to the style of the game. Sort of like GTA character drawings only ... ... idk it's hard to explain. Maybe I should find or make an example.

BUG REPORT

at the part when you get out of the sewers in the town where you find "you know who" (indication is: spoiler alert) and get the key or something like that out of the sewers, it gives an error about some demon event... what the heck? i couldn't get past this part because of this and i want to

It surprises me you have been able to go that far. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it's a dead end for you. I'm not sure how to explain to you, but it's like this: after you're very far in a saved game (hours long), anything can happen and sometimes scripts don't work as they were supposed to. Might be my fault since I use a lot of timers and weird scripts. Anyway, you can go to the following address in your computer: MyDocuments/001/Games/Voyage for Vengeance and check out the error.log file. Paste the error here so I can double check if it's a real bug or if it is an issue with saved game. I'm pretty sure it's not an error since I managed to beat that part a bunch of times, although I did experience some really strange occurences in the sewer, but Mike wasn't able to reproduce them.

Either way (my bug or savegame bug), your save is, unfortunately, dead. Even if I uploaded a new version, you'd have to start over. I'm sorry, this happened sometimes to me with VfV itself and it's not a good feeling.

Same issue for Wolf Hunt players. Certain maps that rely on timers send you to random places or the wrong place at quirky times.

Metomunc has finished the portraits. I'll remove the ones I took from Supernatural TV and replace with these, which by the way look awesome. You'll be seeing them soon.

EDIT: I'm almost ready for release. There's still a problem with saving/loading game. The further you go in the game, the longer it takes to save and load games. So at one point, I'm spending literally minutes and sometimes I even get an out of memory error. I'm working together with Mike so we can fix this.

Since this new version is able to save and load much faster, I figured I'd make a new interface for them. Now you can have as many saves as you want.

He's exaggerating quite a bit ;). But yeah, some of the maps are massive, with quite a lot of dimension to them. We spent a few days back reducing memory consumption of 001, but it seems it wasn't enough - so I'll keep at it :).

One thing is that tile-data was made to be written to save data after tile-changing events were added, which was fine before I added the third dimension (depth). But now with that in effect, things have gotten a bit bulky. An easy fix that should yield good results will be to only record tile-data on maps that change tile-data. Also, a new feature to not keep maps persistent will also help for serious projects like these.

I'm not quite exaggerating, really. When you're loading or saving, it can take up to twice the current memory to do it. If it's allocating memory to save or load and you have run out of free memory, it will error. It's also recommended that you close every application running if you're having this issue.

That's considerably less than 1024mb - and that isn't during a built game, which yields a bit less.

its only 754mb, not even a complete gb, remember, 1000kb = 1mb and 1000mb = 1gb

Actually it's 1024kb and 1024mb, still in my opinion 754 is quite a lot for a 2d indie game.

Try pressing Q twice (or whatever the key is that changes the current character). This should free them up.

You are unfrozen after he finishes talking to you. While he is getting the weapons for you, you can't move either. Do you mean you remain frozen even after he's done talking?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask questions when stuck in the game but I'm giving it a shot.

I killed the Yeti in Aspen and then the Demon in the church so I'm almost finished with Aspen. But there is a room in the cavern on the top left of the ski area. I killed all the monsters in that room and there's a door. How do you open that door??? Is that where the wizard is from whom you have to retrieve the orb for the witch in Lincoln?

If someone could either post or PM the answer to me, I would be very grateful.

I finally finished! Awesome game.

My Review:
(Caution, spoilers! If you haven't finished, you may not want to read this)

INTRODUCTION:
In today's gaming experience with eye-popping 3D graphics and surround-sound effects, games like Voyage for Vengeance prove that with a good game concept and some creativity, one can still create immersive and compelling RPG games just using 2D effects reminsicent of the early 90s. I would rate Voyage for Vengence as a must-play, certainly among the best featured on Engine001.

What I liked about the game:
The length of the game was perfect; it's short enough to remain engaging and long enough to constitute a full-length game. The game system itself is very compelling. On top of the addictiveness of building characters and increasing weapon-power, there is the extra element of managing funds, and keeping your car maintained and refilling with gas. There is a lot of decision making to be done which adds to the interest level of the game.

The story line itself is good. It pulls the game together to give a goal-oriented feel to the game so it does not feel like you are essentially doing the same thing from city to city. The graphics and effects were good. Some people have mentioned the fact that they are not original but this does not bother me.

Perhaps what I liked the most about the game was the fact that there are many surprises in the game. Although the game uses some traditional elements such as "find item X to accomplish task Y so you can unlock Z", there are many unexpected twists and turns in the story that break that monotony and keep the player engaged.

I have to add that for any 70s-80s rock fan, the sound track of this game will make you want to play certain parts just for the music!


What I did not like about the game:


- Bugs in the game made it quite frustrating at times. See the bug list at the end of the review
- I think that unless you are playing on easy or noob, it's difficult/impossible to get past many parts of the game and the player gives up. The first battle in the store is one of the most difficult and that makes the entry into the game frustrating. Even on easy, I had to cheat (I PMed Miroki how I cheated there) to win. I played on Normal and got completely dead-ended in Mason City. I didn't have enough money for medkits or ammo and couldn't kill the raiders without the latter. I had to start over on Easy. Note that most people who posted final stats either used cheats or played on Noob.
- There are far too many weapons in the game. Having a choice of weapon would be good but the description of the weapons leaves the player in the dark as to which weapon to choose and which to sell to raise some money. More on this later.
- (Spoiler alert) One thing that does not make sense is that by the time you are able to get the free gas in Mason City, you have completed (or almost completed) Aspen and the game is almost over. Keeping your car going is one facet of the game and only getting the ability to get the free gas/repairs when passing Mason City so late in the game makes this goal almost useless

What I would change about the game if you release it again:
- As mentioned, weapon choice is a big factor in the game. Having so many weapons just creates confusion. Toward the end of the game, I had 12 assault rifles, let alone handguns. Despite this, I did not have the best weapons in the game that were recommended to finish hell! Some sort of rating system on the guns describing the relative damage and firing speed would probably solve this so the user can make a decision. As well, there MUST be an indication as to what type of ammo each weapon uses. I found myself in the stores too many times guessing or buying ammo I didn't need because I didn't know what matched the weapon I was purchasing it for.
- For a game of this length, having a long end (i.e. hell) is appropriate. Nonetheless, hell was way too long to remain fun and interesting. I would reduce it by about 1/2. I did not like that there was so much "jump over the lava to stay alive". Some of this type of gameplay is ok but you don't want this to go from an RPG to a Mario Brothers type game right before the end.

Bug List
I don't know if the problems are the game or with Engine001 but these really diminished the fun of the game:
- I sent you the error I got every time I saved a game
- Many enemies just stand there and let you kill them. I was able to level up by killing the Yeti in Mason City just equipped with machetes.
- Sometimes the characters don't follow each other. Without details, I beat certain levels this way.
- I got "stuck" many times. John would just not move in middle of the final showdown and I had to restore from a save.
- I got scripting errors a number of times. The turret guns in Boneville is one. I had to start the final showdown a number of times because it would just freeze.
- One very frustrating bug is that in the first save point in hell, I jumped onto the save point and got the save dialogue, and while I'm trying to save, John starts running into the lava and dies!
- Scripting error that makes you freeze before one of the enemies in hell (the one with the revolving spike post)
- Scripting error on one of the endings (I PMed the screenshot)

Conclusion:
I give the game 9 stars. With just some bug-cleaning and perhaps changing the game-play, this could rival many commercial games.

No one has to agree with anything I said. This is just the opinion of one very-satisfied player :)

That review is pretty spot on in my opinion. The only other thing I might add is a bit more background on the story. Half of this game is figuring out where to go next. For some this is fun, for others it is a nuisance. For instance, in the very beginning, Sarah tells you to go get beer at the store. This is before you've learned that your car has a GPS. So you can pick either the left or right road and hope that you picked the right way without wasting precious gas. If you play long enough and rely on the advice of someone else who's played it before you then you'll have a good time. Flying solo requires either luck or trial and error.

Something I really like about this game is the realism of things. You can tell that alot of testing went into it. Guns legitimately cost about what you could get them for at a pawn shop. Gas is expensive. Your car has a radio. You have to know what kind of ammo goes with which gun. It's not real enough that it's as boring as real life, but you do get a sense for a real world when playing it.

Well actually you can't go west, but yes, there's not plenty of gas in the beginning.
The game is hard in every aspect, I'm aware of that. However, I wanted to make something different than most games, and I knew it wouldn't please everyone.

Wow I''m evil. I just cleared out the masonry and the casino. No survivors! :evil:

I went on the yeti hunt with the guy at the masonry town and he died on the hunt so I missed the reward. I hope it wasn't anything important.

You are a script genious. How did you accomplish saving a highscore without using a saved game?

I did notice. Turn in 5 skins, it's like 100$ Turn in 20 skins, it's like 1000. I turned in 100 skins. If the money were real, I would've at least rented a yacht or something.

Beyond the mentioned MySQL - you can use Save Setting event and Load Setting use value if you wanted a local high score system.

Is it just me or is this way harder? I used to beat New Castle real easy, but ever since I downloaded the update, I got killed by the first demon in the underground dungeon there, lol.

I can not play in that city punks, because of the lag has some way to make that city without any lag? :)

To tell you the truth, the game has never been easier. If you played version 1.0, you'd know what I'm talking about. ;)
About the demon, all you have to do is give Sarah a weapon (assuming you're playing John; if you're playing Sarah then give John a weapon), preferably a pistol, and you should use the shotgun on the character you're playing. Then use the shotgun to attract the demon to you and let Sarah do the work. If you let Sarah kill them without getting their attention to yourself, she may be targeted by them and will be easily killed in action. That is the best possible strategy, and it is wise to increase some of Sarah's (or John's, if you're playing Sarah) ranged skill in the beginning so she can kill enemies more quickly.

No, it is not just you. Lincoln is possibly the worst map ever made when it's about lagging. It has a whole lot of characters, walls, lights and vehicles, aside from being huge. There is really no way to fix this, other than having a good processor and GFX card. Sorry.

Yea, I had to stop playing after dying 10 times due to lag. I wasn't playing on my best computer then, though.

I played this game a long time ago. It had alot of complex stuff it seemed like. Especially driving the car and filling up gasoline and things. Very good programming and artwork overall. I didn't care for the story much though because I didn't understand it very well.

Long story short, "Travel around the US while searching for your father's murderer".
It's a shame you didn't care for the story cuz it's the only thing I can claim as mine! (if you don't consider it to be a ripoff of supernatural TV of course). :P
The programming is mostly simple, and the artwork is all ripped, aside from a very limited set of things I made.

I'd really like to see people finishing this game, but for some reason they don't.
Maybe I should write a walkthrough sometime.

How do you get the cursor to show up?

I've downloaded a couple version since you added mouse support and still can't get it to work. Must be a bug on my end...

It's spacebar. The training mode teaches you the controls, but you can see them in the Controls section, main menu (probably).

It takes me 6 hours, but some people managed to finish it in 3.

Nothing is discarded: there could be a sequel, or even a prequel. There are no plans yet, though.

I suck at 001 combat as well Numbers. It's probably because the AI just charges after you and murders the poop out of you. A tip for this game: Be evil, kill civilians. You got skill points for killing stuff, and civilians are easy targets. For fighting civilians that have weapons, hide behind a closed door and attack through it.

I made a few quests, but if you not make them, you can finish the game between 3 - 3,5 hours :) The 6 hours of miroki was because he, was killing the bosses (that in hardest is very strong)

I have an issue getting killed and shot but do not see anyone who is shooting me. When I went to the place where the gangsters are dealing with the trucks for the mojo cola thing...for some reason I keep LOSING tremendous HP and get shot but there is no one shooting me! I have no idea what to do. They even shoot my car and destroy it and I do not see anyone or anything.

At one stage of the game there's these invisible demons that attack you and your car unless you have a particular accessory I think.

It's not that I was incapable of doing it, I just hate playing using my touchpad to aim, and for games like this, it's best to aim using a mouse. I did like the story though and was fun to play. I also murdered an entire town :P

Miroki, I loved the game, really awesome. It would be really awesome if u made a sequence for the game "Voyage for Vengeance 2". Different Plot, different city but same John and Sarah. There is something wrong with one cheat, i cant spoil it, its about the light, when i type it it says: "Nothing happens" but i do get the effect of the cheat.
Anyways, thanks for this awesome game. Im looking forward for you new project your working on.

Cool man I appreciate it, though you should've recorded your final score. People won't believe the game is beatable if that highscores list is empty! :)

Yeah nowadays people don't like wasting time in games (myself included). Just yesterday I was playing dead space 2 and getting stuck for 1 minute (couldn't stick a needle in the eye properly) made me go look for an online solution.
With this anyone can finish it, unless you have very crappy skills. :P

The drug bug always work. I've almost finished the game in normal difficult, I think that I can do it still today!

Sim mais a maioria do tempo foi que eu tive que aumoçar, sair pro shopping e o jogo fico aberto só desliguei o monitor e pausei o jogo! Eu ainda consigo fazer o bug das drogas pra ter 200 de strenght e de endurance, não é nada dificil, sinto muito se você tentou corrigir mais achei uma forma de reproduzi-lo denovo asuhasuash. Foi mal tar falando em portugues é porque minha cabeça ta doendo pra cacete pra ficar lembrando e traduzindo. O cheat que peguei foi o mesmo da outra vez e é inutil praticamente uhsuashu! Pra que vou ter lanterna infinita? Ela laga o jogo todo em alguns lugares...

Hmm. I think it's my favorite 001 game.

What a perfect!I love this game.The gameplay and the story is excellent,but the most addicting is your creative custom tileset.But,I think the difficulties is too hard,even in normal level.Keep the good work... ;)
