You make the key for it, like "Q", then click "On key down" and in the box select "Q", then hit add control

Then double click the new control, then voila, up pops the scripting box thingey :D

Ok, sounds good :)

Well, tonight, after im done my homework...

Ill ADD some music, i will also be adding some features (Such as a streak counter) and update the first post w/ screenies

I might also make it so you can pick the song ingame, either using items or by lets say pressing "1", will make song A play :)


I might just do it differently though :D

I hope to have somthing like this as a mini game in one of my upcoming games. So does the character move like he/she is dancing when you hit an arrow?

Meh. I'm not too sure about character dancings, that's really a DDR add-on.
The priority is testing if the arrows work, and the timers don't lag.

Meh, it's alright. I like it, but it could use some work.
I like all the custom resources but the gameplay is a little lacking.
- I don't like any of the songs, but that's just me, it doesn't really effect this rating at all.
- There is a bug that makes your score start out with a negitive number.
- It's easy on some difficulties, but on others way to hard. - This could be fixed fixed by making a greater distance between the arrows and hitters.
- I don't like how the arrows don't go along with the beat.
Once again, it's an alright game, pretty good for it's first beta, but it can use some work.

The thing with the arrows not going to the beat will be kinda hard.. like i mean, just how its setup D=

The songs, I'm going to add more later - its just temporary songs..

I know about the -number bug at the beginning.. once the arrows start to drop, it should go back to 0.. its probably an internal bug or something..

About the difficulties, I thought it was a good range.. Its got the Easy mode for the really slow reflexed people, then medium/hard for regular skilled people, expert for those button mashers, and expert for those crazy dudes on youtube :D

And about the gameplay lacking - explain more please D:

I agree with ZhugeLiang completely. Make the arrows hit the beat, and consider to edit the ESC button. Having an RPG interface doesn't really make it that immersive, heh. Also, maybe it's just me, but the songs seem to repeat forever.

Works, but it needs more work.

Fix up your bugs, add some livelier content, and make your 'slow reflexes' faster - the nightmare should be something not even you can play.

i cant play nightmare D=

i know about the arrows to the beat - It will be alot harder to do because every thing is done by timers

About the never ending songs - will fix when i can have more than 25 timers :O

about nightmare too.. the only way i could make it faster is if i make it go down 2 pixels instead of 1, right now that's the only way..

About the ESC button, i honestly cant fix it until mike adds that feature D=

Next beta will fix alot, trust me on this :O

Please don't send music made by "actual artist". It breaks copyright laws and your file sharing. ;)

AKA - They will sue your ass for everything you have, and you get a hefty fine.

Try a source like newgrounds for music - All you have to do is give the artist credit and you can put it in your game.

It's against the law to send a copyrighted song to somebody. It would be against the law to also put it in your game without their permission.

yeh and since the player of the game cannot actualy 'listen' to the song, as in put it on a cd or ipod, all it is is publistity. if they like the song they will go out and buy it and the artists respect that.

i just finnished playing it. It was awsome. you just need to work on the visuals - and i dont know about the other songs, but after one by metalica finished playing arrows were still falling.
Its the only 001 game that i could confidently say is addictive.

Heres an idea: what if you had bad arrows that you werent allowed to hit?

Bad arrows is a good idea...

Also, you need to work on the visuals, the plain black background is sooooo boring! You should add some color. Also, if possible, you should add some sort of character-thing that dances as you press the arrows...

Like i said above, I'm really considering the No Hit Arrows :D

About the arrows still dropping:
Right now there is nothing that stops them from falling, also there is nothing that stops the music. Ill add this when the bug on limit of 25 timers is fixed :D

wow. all those timers must give you a headache :?
i saw the background, i like it, although alternating backgrounds- say everytime you hit a note- would make the game more ... err... exciting. Maybe the same background but different colours.

if you want i can make coloured variations of that background in a few seconds.

Most DDR games have pretty colorful backgrounds that go with the song. You could try implementing that.

and what do you think about having sound effects for good and excelent arrow hits? you would have to make 4 or 5 connected to a random branch so we dont get sick of them.

Like "yeah!" or "ding" and if you miss an arrow it could say like "you suck!" and if you win it could say "congratulations you won, now get a life"

Hah! good ideas, so far, my game's looking not bad :D

I Added a FREE STYLE! mode that has a 50% chance of happening every 30 seconds (Might change)

Basicly hit as many notes as you can in 5 seconds - still got a big bug to iron out though

I added the options menu - so far only 2 items you can change.

1. background, if you want it to change colors fast, slow, medium or give them a color on how your doing (Red = bad, orange = not bad, green = good)

2. Same thing but with the arrows, only 2 color changing modes though.. random or how your doing

Still got some bugs with them though..


At the rate I'm getting stuff done, i might have another demo out soon :D

This game is way too good to be a tribute game to dance dance revolution.
Have you ever thought of using that setup in a different style of game other then dancing?

Just an idea but what if you made a martial arts game using the falling arrows and key pressing?

Example: every time you hit an arrow you take damage out of your oponent. The oponent hits you when you miss an arrow or hit a bad arrow. It could use almost the exact same scripts and everything, you would just need to add a few variables, comparison branches, levels and stuff- and some turn baced battle style animations maybe.

Im sure theres 1000s of other things you could use that setup for too.

Not that it isnt the bee's nees at the moment. Honestly its the most origonal effort on the games section at the moment.

And by the way, will you detect the presses on release of keys or on holding down? Because when you press, but don't release any of the four keys, you practically can win every song with improper scripting.

This game is great! The arrows actually have to be lined up for a perfect. Awesome job scriping. The only suggestion I have is (as stated before) put in some dynamic objects on each map that have a dancer of some kind. You could do some really funny and very unique ones like an actual chicken for the chicken dance and other animals or cartoon people.
Who should I really listen to?

hah! sounds good :D

Right now, there is not one map for this game :O


what my original plan for the scripting was:
Make a very long map, have arrows lined up on the map.

Use the pan camera to move the screen across the arrow

then of course hit the arrows when they hit the bottom of the screen
(was to difficult)

Hmm, it was good... for the first few mins. I played Chicken Dance on easy and the song went on for like 10 mins and it got annoying and I quit it. I tried one of the songs on Nightmare and it went so fast it lagged and I couldn't see which was coming. I liked it at first but the song was too long so i quit.

Well first - BUMP


The main reason for this bump~ I fixed ALOT of lag :D

Originally how it worked was the arrows moved 1 pixel at a time. For easy mode, the timer was set to 5 M.s.... nightmare was 2. xD

I now set it to double the timer delay (Easy had a delay of 5, now its 10.) and increased it to move down 2 pixels at a time :D

I know it reduced delay - my computer is really laggy right now, its running pretty smooth!


I Also fixed some bugs on the background changing colors :O

It was a pain to do - i never want to edit my system scripts again :lol:

OK!

I have added when you press ESC, it gives you a popup then closes the game.

While working on other things, i found out it completely messes up because of the inability to PAUSE songs :P


So for now, when you press ESC, be ready for a game closure :O

You should have the tracklist included in the discription of the game in the game section. Oh and if you could do it maby if you beat the game on insane you unlock the bounus track the 001 town midi :D

Ok, its working great so far, the end of the song thing. I only got like 2 bugs in it, HOORAY!

1) If you dont hit the arrow when the song ends, when you pick a new song, its still falling giving you a horrible score :(

2) Once you beat one song then start another, the amount of perfects and stuff does not reset.. :O


But yah, here is what it looks like after i do whiskey in the jar on expert :O

Thats my Intro Script :P

Its when you turn on the game, you can select "Start song" or "Options". From Options you can change the color of the flame's and the Arrow's. When you hit start game, you pick the song then it starts all the timers and turns the hud ON. It resets the VARIABLES and basicaly does everything :D

Also, I'm not adding new song's until i get more stuff done, only because its such a hassle :O it will be much more easier when I'm ready for more songs.



I'm expecting another demo MAYBE tomorrow or the next day :) depends on what I'm doing tomorrow, problems, etc.

It's some error that Setup001 cannot work directly.
Obviously a compatibility issue, or mould in my hard drive.

Nice game Numbers. Gives me ideas for when I get my hands on Custom Inputs.

How did you do the scoring thing? Like When you hit a note, its either Miss, Good or Perfect and such?

made an animation with the x amount of frames. set the speed to 0 or w/e it takes for it to never change (Forget lol)

Then when i put it in my hud, i did transaction single effect. I made it read "Perfect_Scale"

On each key (Up, down left right) there is a check on how close the arrow two arrows are together.

If its dead on, it changes the value of "Perfect_Scale" to 1. Then the hud reads it and changes the frame!



For when you end the song. I do everything the same except i make it add 1 to the variable "Perfects" or "Greats" or "Missed"

It's a very great game. :D
Though, the game's size is worrying. Once you get a bigger public for the game, you should make different versions of the game, like: HardRock DD001, Pop DD001, SlowMusic DD001, Techno DD001, etc.
And don't get frustrated, it's always like this in the beginning. Due to the huge ammount of poorly-made games, people will only give a chance to the games that have had good reviews.

I was gone even make a Midi DD001 for those who have dial up, like maybe only a 10 MB instead of 50 (My prediction on which each version is gonna be around due to there needing to be alot of songs so it does not get boring!)

I really liked the game. A little dull. I mean that playing the song over and over again is annoying. Also I recomend you change the message box color and the main menu text games without these things changed kindof turn me off. 8/10 could be better :)

Also, little things like font and titles get changed usually closer to final release. You know, just because they take about 30 seconds to change ;)


Next release should have better things like that once the next beta comes out! :D

Pick the song streamline or haha (After hitting the down selection)


Those songs are like 2 minutes long, and YES, the song SHOULD end after the length of the song ;)

If not, then a timer is broken :\


EDIT:

Just realize I forgot to take out a testing thing near the arrows. There is a 0 unless you pick the song haha...

Ignore it, will be removed in next version

Apparently, the songs and notes repeat themselves. Could do some detection or something, and don't use BGM. It loops infinitely until you leave the 'map'.

Hmm, nope, the songs don't loop. Some of the song SEEM like they repeat, but they don't.

I just d/l it, works 100% for me... if you can, record what you are talking about, or be more discriptive ;)


I say it works for me...

Once I finish the HUD and fix any bugs (If there is) then I will work on the FINAL version, and start downloading some songs :)

i was pissed already because of Metallica's One in a dancing game, AND with plenty of hard moves!
i really don't see any way to "dance" metallica but shaking your head :P

i think you should add common dance genres, such as Disco, Eletronic Music, Hip Hop etc..
metal is definitely NOT for dancing :D

I got it yesterday.

I liked it.

It should say at the start that pressing escape ends the game, I thought it would just pause it or something as I needed to do something else

Showing how much time is left of a song, and when choosing a song how long it is would be good.

Remember to post any bugs/suggestions :D

I'm planning to start the full version once bugs are gone, HUD finished and about 10+ backgrounds added :)

The flames will be ONE background! I was also thinking of doing a section called "Full background"

In there will be your strobe lights, random full screen colors or non color changing full background :)


all this will be 10x easier once i get the next beta :P

or 1.5 comes out!

its nearly impossible to play a full song with that background, as much as its fancy, add an option to remove or change it :P

also, edit the visual settings :P

Allegro, Core, and Objection! (the song) from Gyakuten Saiban should be in there. I have a remix of all songs which are incredible. Yes, they are all in my game.

Note:
Objection! can be used on any level
Allegro can be used on harder levels
Core can be used on any level

I found that this game has a number of bugs. Oh, and are you going to sell it as "Click Click! Dance Dance! 001 Revolution!" once you're finished? And I made the name to avoid lawsuits. -_-

If your going to complain about bugs, maybe post what they are?

And dance dance 001 sounds a LOT better then "Click Click! Dance Dance! 001 Revolution!" considering you don't click, and as far as i know, there hasn't been a revolution here : /

It usually lags on my computer for some reason and the music sometimes is choppy or isn't existent and if it works perfectly, then the notes are off.

The notes currently fall at a random rate..

the choppyness is caused by your computer, not the game :P

Is there anyway you can make the Notes come down in a order, Because I really wanted to make a Gutiar Hero Rhythm game like this!

I have DISCONTINUED this and is working on a new game for now. I have a DDR alternative already started called Dance Pad.

This topic is not needed any more, PLEASE dont bump old topic which have obviously not been worked on in forever.

I WILL post the source code for it on the first page, you probably wont understand it one bit, but you can try.

If you know some basics of music theory, you can convert notes per minute into milliseconds and put notes accurately.
