Windows IS kinda annoying.

Postby 2cool4me4 » Tue Aug 17, 2010 5:28 pm

I want to speed up my Windows, and I hate the built-in defragmenter, so I got a free one. It's really popular and my AVG toolbar says that it's OK, so I trusted it. I defragmented the computer, and then shut it down. I turned it back on later in the day and analyzed the hard drive just for fun, and it was fragmented again. It looked like I didn't do anything with it. Suggestions?

Well, if the defragmenter was free, then it might not be that good.

Defragmenting doesn't necessarily free up space. But yeah odds are it was probably just a crappy defragmenter.

Also, a better RAM might speed things up.

No, it's a Microsoft gold standard defragmenter. This happened with defraggler before. I don't like the included one because it's so slow. It takes hours on end when it should take minutes.
Also, I have plenty of RAM. Only about 50% is constantly used. Plus, I don't need more free space.

If you analyzed it with the software you downloaded, it might be bugged to always say your hard drive is fragged up.

I know that it's not bugged. Unless Defraggler and this program are bugged. I am running a Dell Vostro A860 with 2 gigs of ram, a 150 gig hard drive with a special partition, and an Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 @1.60 ghz. Yeah, I typed all that!

If you analyze it with the default defragger that came with your computer and it says that it's fragmented, either the program doesn't work, or the files are un-defragmentable.

I can't get a good reading. It Just says "your file system is OK". It doesn't give me anything specific. And when I try the command line system, it says "access denied"

Run cmd.exe as an administrator. That'll fix the latter.

I forgot to say that I do. But I think that I fixed the problem. I don't know how, but I did.
