It's really not bad, considering that the resources look great.
Well, not much to say since I haven't played yet, but good luck to the productions!
P.S. For your character's face, sharpen the graphics a bit. It looks slightly ripped and there's still a semi-transparent layer on the outer layer of face skin.

Ha, the characters face.... that is me. I took a picture with a digital camera and shrunk it down massively. Thats what you're seeing friends.

But I'm gonna go thru sound files and try to cut them down today, so try again later and it hopefully will be smaller.

And if deedasmi the apparent ruler of the game descriptions doesn't like it again, and he takes it upon his self to take it down without saying anything to that nature, you can complain to him. :D

Wow... This game is great.
Man, you guys put in a ton of effort into this game.
It is incredible... For some reason, I like games with real pictures as graphics and stuff like that .

The gameplay is great.
Sound quality and effects are awesome.
I highly recommend this game.

10/10 :P

Well done! Awesome scripting with dynamic objects and within the HUD. I like how you put yourself in the game too. That's really creative. Add a story and I'd call this one a 10 ... actually, I'd call it a 10 right now. I can't really tell who the bad guys are right now. I'm guessing robots, but they look kinda like zombies too. You should really finish this. It's fun.

True. Add on a bit, your game looks highly promising.
I'd suggest a little more on the plot development and stuff, it's a little unclear during the course of the whole game.
But other than that, good job. Keep it up, yo!

Great game! I played it all the way to the end. There are some minor gliches though. Some of your big characters that shoot the red lasers get stuck behind walls or walk ontop of them. The boss was ver fun however if you just keep shooting hime from behind a wall he dies really fast. You should disable saving from the main menu becuas you have save points. There were some items that I wasn't sure what the did. They didn't shoot or heal as far as I could tell (like the pearl). Finnally what everyone says explain the story a little more. Now for the fund part, the stuff I liked :D

1) the custom wepons and resources
2) the HUD I loved how the face changed as you lost health
3) voice acting. (was that Rodney McKay from stargate Atlantis on the screen?)
4) the end cutscene/ credits (with all the ships flying away
5) awsome main menu!
6) just the right amount of healing items

Keep up the good work! :D

I haven't beaten the game yet but all I can say is: Truly F****ing Amazing!! Excuse my french.. A few questions.. How did you get the walls to blow up and how did you make the containers explode..That was a real treat..Keep up the great work guys.. 9/10 from me..

Exploding containers are simple. Just make a zone that checks if the player used a weapon on it, then play the blow-up effect.
For the walls, they are most likely just characters with a pretty decent amount of health.

Here's a picture from one the cutscenes. And to answer a couple questions, the destructible walls/crates are simply vehicles that you can't get inside. And yes that is Dave Hewlett, from The Cube and Stargate Atlantis. We were wondering how long it would take someone to point that out.

We're working hard to finish the story art right now. Hopefully we can release the whole first part soon after the customizable menus come out, but when we do release the real deal, it'll be as glitch free as possible. Also, a full story is gonna be implemented into the final game.

I cannot stress how much I enjoy the execution of this game. It looks great, it has a style of it's own, and yet it is very reminiscent of it's genre. The characters and feel to me is very much like OUT OF THIS WORLD or FLASHBACK, and the design reminds me movies like MAX HEADROOM, EQUILIBRIUM, THE ISLAND. It reminds me of something I think I would see in a movie based on a Phillip K Dick novel (Minority report, Blade runner). This is the best game I ever seen on the 001, and it is hindered by nothing. The hud is awesome with the face that takes damage. The vending machines are a neat idea...To me this game is near perfect for what you have done. I am excited for the finished product

Sci-fi-ish, and pretty good, but more of these sci-fi elements could make the game even better.

Make some objects when you're flying. Toxic clouds, ridiculously tall rock pillars etc.
It looks nicer that way, and more realistic.

Not that kind of modern-day realistic.
I mean, if you're flying a ship in a polluted metropolitan dystopia, there's definitely a few objects in the sky that will obstruct you...

How do you make a flying level? Does the backround constantly move, or is the maps just really big? I'm thinking about making a flying level sort of.

Don't worry though, this game has five different parts. So far the only version we have up is the First Level of the First Part. The first part will have 4 levels, and three of those are already complete.

Here now are the first 3 levels of the game. We decided that we wanted to make the game as a whole, not in 5 parts. The story is still incomplete, except for the first level. It's as done as done could be. We're really excited to get these other 2 levels out there; we've worked really hard on them. You must keep in mind that it's not a complete game. There are many more levels to come, we just need to find the inspiration to make them. If you guys like our game, say so, because that inspires us to keep going. Another reason we are making the game one file is because its going to take so long for us to finish these three levels because the artist for the story kind of dropped out for a minute. But we're confident that we'll get the whole thing done soon.

Mmm, Tasty, a new demo. This is one of the best 001 games ever made, ever. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great game. It took me about an hour or so to "beat" level 2, rather, I got to the end of it and I noticed the camera didn't return to the character, but I got passed it killing all the mutts anyway (I even killed the giant monster thing hehe.). I love this game so much , just fix that little error and it's s'all good.

Can't wait for the next demo. :)

9/10.

~ Zhuge.

Also, there is a minor bug, you don't have every weapon set to play that one sound when switching weapons. ;)

I'm completely stuck in Chapter 2! I got past the first room with the lasers but I'm now in the second one. I know how to disable the first set with the console on the left side but when you get to the top, there are 3 rooms. Any one of them, including the exit, you die the second you enter the room. Could someone help (PM would be ok)?

Thanks

We're going to test our game to see what it is you're talking about. Because that's really weird, I don't remember that happening last time I played it. Has it happened to anyone else? If we find it, we'll update the game file as soon as we fix it.

What's supposed to happen? There's also an exit on the bottom left of the screen but you die as soon as you hit it as well.

the purple lasers kill you immediately. in this picture, the console in the picture deactivates a purple laser that is at the top of the map, and it is timed. there is a console at the top of the map that deactivates the purple laser at the bottom left of the map (which isn't that visible in this picture because i had to shrink it.) however this laser at the bottom of the map isn't timed, so take your time getting back.

Indeed. That did work.

I got to the next part. I got all the way to the next 2 checkpoints. I got to a screen that scrolls up as you walk (actually, you have to keep up with the scrolling or you will lose your character). And after killing a few dozen dogs, you get to this huge dog in an area with a bunch of tanks. I killed the huge dog and nothing happens. Is this a glitch or am I missing a step?

I think I said that I love this game. I must say it again. It is like a mix of OUT OF THIS WORLD and FLASHBACK and the like. It's got a great artistic style while still in the boundaries of technology those games were based on.

Did anyone else run into that problem after killing the Master Pup? Because when you kill him, it's supposed to warp you to the next level. There really aren't any steps to miss either, so please let us know because that hasn't happened when we test it.

Also, its good to see somebody know exactly where we were going with our game. Thank you, 5econds.

I don't know if this is also a glitch but when you throw the switch to open the door that leads to the area that ends with the master pup, by the time you get there, the door is closed again and you have to run all the way back to the switch to throw it again. Is there a time limit on how long the door is open for or is this a glitch?

What I find frustrating in this game is the lack of opportunities to save the game. Once you die, it can easily take 20 minutes to get back to where you were. This can be very frustrating especially if you don't know what you're supposed to do in a particular room and you are trying to explore the different options so you can figure it out. The game itself is excellent and a lot of fun but this aspect really detracts in my opinion.

Considering that I can't continue past the dead master pup, is there some way to get to level 3? Some game authors have cheat codes that allows parts of the game to be played if the game gets stuck.

Thanks

the door that leads to the master pup is timed. and i understand that the game is difficult, that's how it was intended to be. we were going for a difficulty similar to earthworm jim, o.d.t., out of this world, and oddworld. but i must say that it's good to hear all sides of the opinions, and we don't plan on making the game any easier. as for the glitch with the pup, we don't know why it's not working, but we'll try to figure it out. it works for us. we'll go over everything then release a polished-up demo sometime in the future. we do appreciate all the feed back we receive, so if you have something to say, good or bad, we'd love to hear it.

PS: If you really want to play the game in its best form, we recommend using a USB controller that you can pick up for about ten bucks. It makes things much easier to accomplish, and way more fun to play. Also, this game was built around a 1440x900 resolution, so if you have a video card that goes up that high, you can see much more of everything.

Here's some tips:
Look for secrets! They often have fill-ups and Saint Pearls, which raise your max HP. Make sure to stock up on those Turkey Legs too, they'll save you. Don't rush into battles or firefights. Try to pick off one person at a time, because rushing in is the easiest way to get killed. And, if you're having a problem with those pesky pups feasting on your flesh, stock up on Flamethrowers. That's the best way to kill them. In short, just save ammo and look for secrets. And don't forget to rate our game (pretty please?). Not many people have done so. By time we release the next demo, it should play a lot smoother. We just kind of slopped this one together. We were eager to let people play. We also cannot stress enough that the story is totally incomplete at this point, as you can probably tell by playing.

Then the best approach would probably be to first kill off the bad guys between the switch and the door, then run back, flip the switch, THEN save. Otherwise you have to do the whole thing all over.

Looking forward to the next release. If this is any help, I tried again and what happens is that the Master Pup goes splat when he has about 1/4 of his HP left (based on the bar at the bottom of the screen) and then you can't finish. I am guessing that it doesn't trigger the next level until the HP is gone but you can't reduce his HP because it thinks he's dead?

sickness wrote:if you have something to say, good or bad, we'd love to hear it. .

Lots to say that's good...the graphics are great, the variety of items and the gameplay makes it a lot of fun. The puzzles are at a good level of difficulty and that makes the game quite compelling. It's obvious that a lot of work went into the game. My only contention is that if it's difficult, having to repeat 25 minutes of playing because you got killed really extends the length of the playing time, but in a frustrating way.

My policy is that I don't rate games unless it's possible to finish them. The vast majority of Engine001 games are either demos that never make it past the demo phase and are incomplete and/or fraught with glitches or games that you can't finish because of some bug near the end (I've encountered about 4 of those and the author tries to figure it out and then gives up). If I can't complete a game because it doesn't function properly, it's really hard to give it a fair rating. I'd rather wait.

At any rate, this game is certainly a gem and I hope you beat the odds of most Engine001 game-designers :)

Ok. Here's a slightly updated version of the demo. We polished up a couple things that were popping up that weren't supposed to be, and fixed a script or two. But mostly, its just to ensure that it's been fully tested, and the glitch with the master pup wasn't present when tested. So if anyone still has a problem with it, let us know. We'll try to figure it out to the best of our ability. We figured if it worked for us, shouldn't it work for everyone else? Unless uploading it onto this site causes it to glitch out sometimes (haven't experienced that either), we don't know what's wrong with it. Hopefully no one minds playing thru it again just to see if it works. If the glitch continues, if you really want to play the third level, say so and we'll make it happen. Sorry for the inconvenience.

One change you may want to include in the future is for it to show on the top right corner (where it shows what item is active) how many you have left. I find that I can be hurling riot crackers at people and not notice that I'm out or low and I don't switch weapons fast enough as a result.

We'll definitely be making that third level longer, don't worry bout that. As for the ammo gauge, we're not sure about it. There is a bar already in the hud, but if your resolution isn't high enough, you can't see it. We decided to go with a bar instead of numbers, because it looked cooler that way.

And another thing, has anybody unlocked the secret level yet? I wasn't going to give it away, but here's how to unlock it: Find all the Bonus Head Cards. There's only 5, and they're only in the first 2 levels. 4 of them are very easy to find, but one of them is extremely hidden. I'll give you a hint though, it's close to the first boss. The reason I'm telling you this is because we put a lot of work into the secret level, and we want you to play it. You can't shoot in it yet, we're still trying to figure out a way around it. For now, all you have to do is survive it.

15. And each level will be completely different. Its quite a task but I think its worth it. To give you an idea, one of the levels is going to be a renaissance fair. I know it sounds weird, but its always been in our heads. We actually made this game a while ago with hardly any custom resources, and it took us about a month to complete, but once we started making a few customs we just never stopped, and a month turned into a year now.

I've turned my resolution to the one you recommended and it looks the same. Maybe I just didn't realize where the bar is or what it represents.

I've found a few of those cards but I never knew what they're for. Thanks for the tip.

- Well, I started the game again. This time I did get past the Master Pup. I was looking at your graphic that you posted and it seems that there is supposed to be a coloured line between active lasers. I did not see any such line on my screen so I had to play it by ear, getting zapped unexpectedly.

- I found the 5 head cards. Where is the secret level?

- I got to the freeway and walked all the way to the left. There is this huge machine that smashes up cars as I run toward the bottom of the screen. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do on this level; I just keep lobbing grenades at the machine (Eden?) and it doesn't seem to cause any damage to it. At some point, there is a message at the bottom of my screen and my character ends up outside the frame and I get killed. Is this supposed to happen? How can I avoid it? I've attached an image.

We just tested it, and it works fine for us. This is really weird. We found an old script that might be the problem, but we can't upload a new version of the demo yet because of the new version of the engine. The script we found shouldn't have anything to do with it, but we don't know what else it could be. If anyone else has this problem, let us know as usual. Sorry that you had to search for all those bonus head cards for nothing. When we tested it, you can kill Eden and if you have all 5 cards, it takes you to the bonus level after you kill him. And if you don't have all the cards, it takes you to the end credits. We can kill Eden with grenades, and any other weapon we have. So we don't understand why it wouldn't work. I'm not sure why glitches keep happening like this. Its really strange. Before we release another version of this, we'll test it a few times to make sure to the best of our ability that it works in all sorts of scenarios.

usually when a map cannot be found its becuase it was renamed. If you renamed the map without selecting it again on the position character screen this error will occur. You may have done this before you tested it but not before you uploaded the current version.

In case this is of any help, I tried again and avoided the left side of the screen. I used the narenator and it was very effective against Eden.

I ended up in a level where you fly a cute little space ship. This level is VERY buggy, though. I don't know if you're supposed to be able to, but by pressing ENTER, you can exit the space ship and walk around. I got a screen full of script errors at one point. It's very unclear what the section at the bottom of the screen is for (are you supposed to be able to enter it?). When you get to the big thing at the end (hard to tell what it is...perhaps a space craft?) it starts shooting at you and then the game is over.

Since I finished the game, I will post my thoughts and comments when I have some time. Hopefully over the weekend.

Oh crap. You're not supposed to be able to get out of that spaceship. We checked it, and we can get out too, and that really stinks because we really didn't want anyone to see the level in that way. So if you haven't played it yet, or don't mind playing it again, just don't get out of the vehicle because once you do, it destroys the whole level. Once we're able to upload a fixed up version, we will. We've already fixed it though, so no worries. We apologize for this premature release. We were just too eager to get it out there. We'll make sure any future releases are tested a little more thoroughly.

On another note, bugs aside, what did you think of the flying level? Oh yeah, that's water on the bottom half of the screen, and the thing at the end is a big spaceship that shoots at you. This level was heavily inspired by a playstation game called "In the Hunt". Each part will have a secret level.

I didn't intend to destroy the level. You have to be able to think like a new user when you're designing any program, including games. I killed Eden, was given a chance to save the game, then found a screen where I could not see my character. If you didn't know that you are in a vehicle for the first time in the game (remember, you can't enter vehicles anywhere else) and all you see is a screen, it's not unreasonable to say "what the heck? Where am I?". Hitting a bunch of keys, including ENTER made my character appear so I thought that was what was supposed to happen. I walked across the level wondering what I was supposed to do until I saw the big spaceship at the end that didn't do anything so I was completely stumped. I had to start a few more times to realize that you begin IN the space ship and you can fly it. Sorry for cheating but I found it impossible to get past the barrage of rockets so what I did was get out of the spacehip for that part and then get back in.

I'm wondering at this point - other than the developers of the game, who has finished it so far?

since this game isn't going to be finished for a long, long, long, long time, here are some photos of some new stuff we've been working on. we've added a merchant for you to buy ammo, better weapons, and fill-ups. We feel it makes the game a lot more balanced. And for those of you who feel that the game is way too difficult, this should make it easier without changing the game very much. Enjoy..

this is something we've been working on for a while. its actually one of many things that we've added. its a virtual booklet. this is something we've wanted to put in the game since we started making it, but we've never really had the ambition to do so until now. you just use the arrow keys to point the crosshairs at the green arrows onscreen, then push enter to flip the pages.

Though, I don't mind the default interfaces. It is kinda hard to learn how to make them.

we're really not sure of a release date. to give you an idea, we wanted to have this game released in january, but it's taking about 300 times longer than we thought it would. for quality reasons, we keep having to change and update our levels. and because we keep coming up with new ideas and stuff, we've only been able to work on 6 levels. we'd originally mentioned that there was going to be 15 levels, but at this point we're struggling to make even 9, which is the amount of levels we wanna have. we had to cut 6 levels, because honestly, they just didn't fit the game, and wouldn't be worth taking the extra year or so to make them all.

New Demo released today (10/23). Please download and comment and stuff. It's got some new features and a new level too.

Just played it, I couldn't get passed the level one boss because of the critical error 9 when quade dies, and not being able to save / load. I'll try to do a full without dying run later.
I like the new dialogue and updated start and menu. I also like the "secret areas" you added. The guy selling stuff in the yard is neat, and the boss battle is still as cool as the first time I played it.
All in all, you still get my ten - even if I can't get passed level one, the same great gameplay elements are there, and then some. :)

Some of the elements do clash with each other, e.g. Quade, the walls and the ground. Maybe you can try remaking Quade to look slightly more cartoonish, or the bg to be slightly more realistic and pseudo-3D?

I felt that the creatures in the badlands were a bit hard because of their health, but slow enough to beat over time. And that rock concert thing was pretty funny. Oh yeah, and the wall traps were a genius idea!

Yeah. Only thing I didn't really like was that Z was the only way to cycle through weapons (well, at least from what I've seen) because I found myself accidentally going over the weapon I wanted.
Anyhow, It's still a great game, 10 out of 10. One question though, are you editing level two and three? Because last time I played it they were playable. Either way, awesome job. Only thing I might ask is that if you are editing those you should add some traps like you did on the badlands and a boss like level 1. 8)
Edit: I'm not sure if this is suppose to happen but, you can use the bonus head tool heh.

Due to the ever evolving status of engine 001, we've decided to put the game on hold for an indefinite amount of time. We think it'll turn out a lot better this way.

Sorry guys, that definitely wasn't meant to be negative, but because of the news of being able to make checkpoints in the future, among many other great features that keep being added, we realize that our game can only get better by waiting for all these features to be implemented. Engine 001 has allowed us to do things not possible with any other game makers we've used. Galaria Break has been delayed many times, and the outcome has always been much better than just rushing it, but this is the first time that we decided to let everyone know it was being delayed. That way nobody's left waiting for nothing. Plus, we've been working on another game and its taking up most of our time. This doesn't mean that Galaria Break will never see the light of day, it just means that when it does, it'll be awesome.

about half a year ago I was in the same situation. Did not want to work on Relic because there were still cool features to come. I don't think it would hurt to go on without features which can be included later. I am just thinking there are just not enough completed games for 001. Hope the new project will be as awesome as Galaria Break.

Most of 001's features are pretty much in place. There's very little left you cannot do (3D, multiplayer, mouse, saving features). That being said, mouse and saving features can easily be put in later. And 3D and multiplayer pretty much call for completely different types of games. It would be silly to not use 001 because it's growing.

i saw mike posted in the game forums, though i'd be good, so i checked it out, and after reading all of the forum pages i decided to give the game a try...

WOW, a lot of effort went into this... I loved the litttle game case, completely original.
And the combat: wow, i was surrounded by enemies but didn't feel overwelmed becuase many were easy to kill and the blood effects are nicely done... the lighting and music, the feel of the game is great, i've never seen voicework in an 001 game so that was really cool. (I found adam sessler in the game, lol) heres the one thiong that bothered me.

The grpahics... while the sprites look and animate nice, the graphics are jagged, pixelly, and there is major clash almost everywhere, a little black ms paint garbage can next to a photorealistic wall turned me off to it.

Galaria Break is getting close to being finished, and the file size is around 80mb, and we were just wondering if anyone would download it if it was that big, or if we need to start making cuts from certain things.

There is some sort of limit on the upload, in general. Not sure what that limit is, but currently, the most you can submit is about 60mb safely. 80mb could work, but I haven't seen that many that size up there.

I might find a way to allow larger games, but it shouldn't be too hard to remove some large music tracks.

I ran into a couple issues with the full game. First off the resolution is VERY small.
Accuracy.png

I was able to control things, but it seemed bugged. The interfaces at the beginning seemed to lag and I would have to click the arrows to turn pages multiple times before they would work. You might want to rework the interfaces.

Also once I was able to start the actual game I was unable to move or do anything. I could just see the character standing there and listen to the groovy music (After the opening cutscene). Maybe there's an "enable character" event missing?

That being said I can't say much else about the game because I was unable to play it. :(
Who should I really listen to?

I was just wondering if anyone else has had any issues with the resolution or if you haven't and it works just fine. Either way, I'd really like to know.

I also updated the game with video options enabled to see if that helps the people who have had problems.

And to answer meta's problem with the character not moving, it's not a bug, but its because a save screen pops up, but you probably couldn't see it because it was so small.

You don't have to cut them. If you can convert everything to .ogg format you'll free up tons of space that mp3 or wav would take up. ;)

It's not bad so far. Alot of stuff is hard to see though and some things like the lazer gates in the yard don't show up so I had to go by the sounds for when they are on or off. Is there a health display in the HUD? I read the book and it looks like it's there in the instructions, but now in the actual game.

the health bar is on the top left of the screen. is the game switching to full screen and playing in 960x600 resolution? maybe you could post a screen shot with the lazer gate so i can see what your seeing.

This is what I see of the hud and everything. Seems like things are offset in the menues too. Maybe things are not set to be aligned the same way.
Ffireleaf Screenshot.png

The lazer things never show up, but I can hear the sound and the zones work because they kill me when I walk over them if the gate isn't on. The hard part is knowing when it's on when you can't see it.

If that's supposed to be a full-screen resolution: keep in mind that not all video cards / monitors support such a resolution.

You should really be taking advantage of screen edging, which is a fairly simple and effective feature.

Yeah that's something in each field in the hud. Open each field and check the checkboxes that say "Align left (right, top bottom)" to align each field to the top, left, right, or bottom of the screen. That way the interface objects won't be misplaced when you change resolutions. Make sure you do it for EVERY FIELD in the hud, otherwise some stuff will be out of place.

I played the game for 2 minutes and found out there are EXTREMELY MANY leaks in walls. When there is the first boss-fight, nobody told me that. I just went trough the doors and I found a boss-fight. I didn't even check the other door as when I killed the boss, it said "level completed" and I was teleported away. Regular enemies have huge problems with hitting you, if you stand still, you will notice all bullets go past you. The explosion effect (from barrels and crates) doesn't match the graphical style of the game. The voices in the game are extremely silent compared to music and other sound effects. Biotool can kill the first boss WAY faster than using any other weapon - quite much no balance. On 1024x800 resolution, ESC button menu images and buttons are misplaced. I got this much critique just from playing 1 level. The game-play is a boring run-n-gun. Sorry, but I'm afraid of playing the game farther. Fix your bugs, I will play the game again and then I will rate the game, I don't think you want a 6/10 that will crush down your rating under Metomunc.

Nice! I'll get it later. :D

Huh, even with the size cut, I still can't play it.
The game literally eats all my memory on start up. I'm not sure why though; I haven't had any problems running other 001 games on my laptop.
Anyway, the draining starts after it finishes loading effects, after that it takes an extremely long time to load. Then it lags horribly once I get to the menu. :?

Even with your bit of on outburst there, I was able to recover your deleted game (since I backed up the site recently) and was able to fix the problem with loading your game.

You know, sending a bug report only takes seconds of your time, and I don't see why a fixable bug should be reason to give up on this project and your game. I know 001 is under development and is far from perfect, but it would be nice for your support, just like myself, the software, the community and the site has supported you.

I think I'm stuck!

I'm in chapter 5. After the gate shown below, there are dozens of bad guys. I killed them all and went to the bottom of the region. There is now nothing apparent to do. I can't get back to any previous area and I see now way to progress.

Help!

first I would like to thank you for playing :D and secondly I am sorry for the mishap  I will fix this but for now just load your last save head for the large opening and a cut-scene will trigger your ride to come and pick you up from that very same large opening.

I figured that out eventually. Amazingly the chapter after chapter 5 is chapter 4!

I got to the next section. There's one save point that takes a long, long time (the whole computer freezes).

Well, I finished the game. I don't know why the last parts of the game take about half an hour to save.

If I have time I will write a more detailed review of the game. The fact that it was playable with few glitches or scripting errors is certain unusual for an Engine 001 game!

Re: Galaria Break

Postby shadow9449 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 9:35 pm

My Review:

Introduction:

Galleria Break is a game that's guaranteed to give you about two hours of fast-paced fun in the 2D classic style of "shoot-em-up to escape" of the late 80s. An abundance of weapons and villains keeps the game interesting as you move from chapter to chapter.

What I liked:

There is plenty to enjoy about the game. A custom HUD and sprites, sound track and scenery create an immersive and unique atmosphere. The dry sense of humour keeps the game from getting monotonous. A wide range of things that go "boom" is a great touch. Some simple puzzles are just enough to keep the game from being one big "walk through and shoot". The story line is pretty loose and doesn't contribute much to the game but does add to the interest. I liked that there is a variety of levels (such as vehicles and bosses).

What I would want to see changed:

The previous release of the game was frustrating in the sense that you could easily spend 25 minutes doing the same level over and over because there were too few save points. This release is actually too easy and that detracts from the game play. Even the bosses were really little challenge. I think that other than lasers I walked into because I didn't see them, I got out approximately once while playing. Despite all the twists I mentioned in the previous paragraph, there really should be a bit more to the game than running and shooting to bring the fun-factor up a notch.

Bugs:

I noted one dead end in an earlier post. It took a LOT of time to clear the monsters in that level only to realize that the game doesn't continue there...grrrrrr! :x :x

I don't know why but I could NOT see the lasers. I see them in your screenshots but they don't show when I play. I don't know if that's because of my graphic card (I don't have any problem playing any other Engine 001 games) but you may want to look into this.

Lastly, in chapter 4 (which comes after chapter 5, for some reason), I found that it was taking about 30 minutes to save. I don't know if that's because of Engine 001 or something in the game but you should look into it.

Conclusion:

There's no question that a LOT of effort went into Galleria Break. I would rate it already as one of the best games on Engine 001 and with a bit more polish can be a classic!

Kudos to the developers!
