Bryan's Sketchup Modelling Thread

Postby Bryan93 » Mon Feb 14, 2011 12:16 pm

Well, i haven't posted anything in a while so i decided to make a post about one of my hobbies, 3D Modelling.

I especially model cars with a few friends of mine, and these models are pretty high poly (Currently, i am working on a model that will have ~200000 Faces when finished)
When i'm not modelling cars i usually model stuff that has to do with them, street scenery cities with complex road networks etc.

To start the topic i have my first Hi Poly project i am working on:

The 1999 Chandler Concordia LXi, it's based upon the Third generation of Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge minivans.

Currently the model has around 120000 Faces, but this does include a few parts for a different version of the van (a lower trim model, the base model actually)

Note: The main shape of the vehicle has not been designed by me, it has been made by someone else on the 3D warehouse known as BmrCT, so additional credits to him. I did do most of the detail work, such as the mirrors, door handles, panel gaps, and the rims. Basically i am working on a Highly Detailed version.

Feel free to comment and critic my works.

Well i still don't know, sketchup isnt the most game friendly 3d modelling software, and it would take a good computer to handle the amount of well over 120000 at the moment (i want to have a maximum around 250000) Which is about the same amount of a premium car in gran turismo 5 i read somewhere.

I will, how ever i will use a topdown image of the 3d model and use them as sprites for Drive001.

Here's a quick update with some options added (Roofrack and running board.)

Blender is a pretty good program for making and animating 3D models. I use it and it is pretty user-friendly after a few tutorials.
