Life as a kid

About

This game is all about being a kid. Did you ever have the urge to do somthing really bad as a kid? Or wanted to do better? Well now is your chance. This game will allow you to take control of a virtual you and do whatever a kid could do (and some things kids couldn't ;) ). This game will allow you to make choices that will later on effect the game. For example you run into a very wealthy man who offers you 50$ to do this quest for him. You could if you want but you could mug him and get 100$. Ontop of the fact that you would get the money you would also get a good point or a bad point. If you get enough in one direction you may be able to go to differnt locations, talk to people with a differnt outcome join special groups and more. I thought about this game a while ago but just recently started. I would like to point out that I am not copying anyone this is going to be a original game and don't evn think about it being like GTA it is totally differnt. There is no main story but there will be many side quest and factions with other quests and stories

many more exciting features to come! :D as I said earlyer this is not GTA or copying anyone this is an original idea with inspiration from other 001 games and big budget games

When i saw the title, I thought of Michael Jackson. change the title if you want. Sounds like Bully to me, but I'll contribute clothing. Better have good maps and detail, or I'll sick my ninja monkeys on you!!!! :lol:

Anyways, the game sounds great! I think it will be very complex, though.. Why not change the title to something simple, like Life as a Kid? Or Back in the Day...

lol jkjk.. but you should seriously change the title.. It's misleading. I thought the objective of the game was to take care of a child..

I had to come up with somthing fast :lol: I'm trying to think of a name. Child simulator obioulsly wont be the name. I might use life as a kid. That will be the temporary name until I find somthing better. I'm glad to see you guys like the game's idea. I'll put dagames down for contributing to the name and RPGking for clothing. I garuntee it will be differnt from bully.

How about if you like mug someone, if they spot you/are stronger then you, they could chase you / beat you / get the police who take you home and you have to pay a fine

IDEA : you should be able to get some kind of weapon. like an air soft gun or paintball gun

I still remembered what I was interested in when I was 12-14, it was Magic of the Gathering Cards, Mortal Kombat Games, DDR, BS [the card game], and real Sports. Alot of people grew up quickly, while I was stuck watching Yu-gi-oh by myself. I quit Poke-mon after adding 200 more types after the frist eight gym leaders, which was in my 3 grade, I was eight.

I am 12 so I have a few ideas of what to put in myself dating may be possible. Clothing with shops that will be put in once I download all the customs will give you the ability to love cloths as much as you want. Star gossip can be possible with best friend system. I am working on a puzzle now it is still in the thinking stages but it will involve a dungon and a weird guy asking you questions I think. :roll: anyway progress is good

I'm getting alot done but I have ALOT to do. EDIT: datebook is done but now I have a bug at the beging of the game :( I also have another bug later on I will need to work on these. After that I plan to do a spell check.

[Idea: Nightmares = Heath & Stuff to do]

Just thought of this idea when I reread the posts on here. Many people are very curious, so when their parents or an adult tells them not to do something, they do it. I'm talking about Tarot Cards, the Board [forgot its name], and watching scary movies. When a kid watches scary movies, they can get nightmares, slightly differing from movies but it affects them in some way. Let's say you get ran over by a car and you have 1 hp left, so you can survive; you're unconsious and you're somewhere where Freddy Crugger or Jason V. is at, chasing you, the longest you survive, the more hp you get, when you wake up.

The stuff to do is underlined and the nightmare is described.

BUMP/UPDATE: first of all I updated the first page. I also added a maze. Currently waiting on my artist he is going to make me a few wepons including but not limited to

*rubberband gun
*plunger arrow
*Rubberbands
*wooden stick

Now does anyone have any ideas for quests? Preferably that can have 2 outcomes (good or bad)

School will be implemented however I think this game will be a little "over the top" so to speak you will do things like join gangs infiltrate other gangs as part of the bad missions school related missons have to do more with the good guys and there are tons of missons for both sides. Almost all the "neutral" missions have to outcomes. You can do the honest or good thing for some good points and a smallish reward or the bad thing for a bigger reward and bad points. Bad may seem like the way to go at the time but maby later in the game you could do a quest with a massive reward that you have to be good to do. It all plays out in the end just remeber what goes around comes around.

*added a gender system (certian quests/factions can only be joined if you are a girl or a boy.)
*work on the town

EDIT: town is almost completed I still need to add a few shops. I will release a demo after I get my bugs fixed (may not be till next version :( )

screenshots look great, is just that the store seems a little empty. Make it smaller or add more shelfs so it doesnt look like the store is about to go bankrupt ;)

If it's something to do with the 'gangs', then add gang stuff. Grafitti, blood splatters, stray weaponry etc.

I havn't shown any of the night maps. ;) gangs arn't a huge part of the game. The city isn't overrun or anything but there are many that you can hang out with. Also remeber the store is a 99 cent/ party store.

don't worry it will be released soon. Well demo anyway I want to hold it in and make sure spelling,bugs gameply it all has to be very close to perfect. There are still alot of game stopping bugs that I can't figure out how to fix. Theres probably spelling mistakes up the wazoo (yeah I don't know what a wazoo is eather) and becuas of the bugs (and the fact that I don't have any quests i've been working on map creation) I havn't been able to test it. However once it comes out I don't think you will be disapponted. :)

Hmm.. Possibly a good sidequest, or if the locket has some relation to you, maybe a story-based (not main story, but yeah) quest.

Dude, have you thought about making school stereotypes classes? Kind of like archer/swordsman, substituted with Nerd/Jock or whatever? Like, it effects your clothing? And the way people regard you?

Hey. What's up? I see you have been working wonderfully! :] Anyways, it seems you've been asking frequently about quest ideas, so I'm going to give you some lists:

1. Investingating a theif in the school, someone lost their precious item and you have to find out who he or is; reward: the theif is now a friend or enemy or keeping the expensive item.
2. Murder in the school, someone set you up and now you need to track them down; time-limit and reward: fighting experience and a choice to join gang or not.
3. If you have a mall to wonder or a big store, a group of thugs have taken over the place and the people are hostage, you escaped them but you're stuck inside; reward: earn a new weapon, experience, or something.
4. Stores are angry with you, and turns out somebody is messing around as you, find the person and beat them; reward: discounts in prices.

you should have a mobile phone, similar to in need for speed underground. people you meet at school could 'give you thier number' and randomly offer you mini quests if you find and talk to them. Also you could buy newer phones which would allow you to get some peoples numbers that you previously could not get. Would be easy to script if a bit time consuming.

This game is all about quality. I like that idea. :) the mall has been put in too. The mall and the school will be the 2 biggest places I think. I will post a new screen once I get the mall done. If you have any escilators tha'd be great. I'm gonna look in the resource section.

Alright we have a complication. I don't have enough clothing for my small characters so they may have to be replaced with the full sized characters. So unless someone has some small kid-like characters and LOTS of clothing,hair ect. I can't use them. Now I will launch a demo after the mall and or school is completed I need resources though.

EDIT: Objective book is finished and I added a few more quests. Working on adding detail but I just started again a few days ago. Now I think I am going to wait for custom events, copy/paste, and interactive interfaces before I do too much more the objective book is just too big of a script to do every time.

Any midi music would be helpfull. I don't really have any music. Also I havn't checked the file size but I'll try to keep it as low as possible. I have some ideas but i'm waiting for next version to finish up the demo.

With the new version many new features are coming including an I pod. The bad new is that all the songs will be MP3 which will greatly increase the file size. Anyway I am looking for requests for songs to put in. I will put in a few of my own aswell. To request you must include

its really pritty cool i'll post a screen soon in the mean time here is a screen of the new menu. This is an early version it may change. I removed the selector so the words just highlight it looks pretty cool I think.

It looks very neat, the high-tech appearance might have a bit of a contrast with the game's modern feel, though.

Yeah. Still it dosn't have ray guns or anything. This games "theme" is good and bad which is hard to represents. I did it with the title screen but I didn't want to do the same for the main menu. I pod is coming along nicely its rather tedious work but it will pay off in the end.

Update!

I pod is complete! I will make a youtube video shortly showing its features. If you want to request a song YOU MUST DO IT NOW! I will begin work on the school shortly. Here is what you can expect for the demo

*huge school
*atleast 2 factions up and running
* a few customs
*Day and night cycle
*Ipod

And anything elese in GREEN on the first page

The school will not have a fully working schedual I am still working that out. However it will all VISUALLY be completed. Once this is done I need to run it by my beta testers and its time for release :)

Alright I have limited space left on the interface. so I will only use 1 or 2. Unfortunatly for the file size all of these songs are MP3.

UPDATE

Unfortuanatly we could have file size issuse. The school is all going to be on one map (100 x 100) I usually use smaller maps but this is an exception the problem is that I set the sun color to grey so that closets and such would be dark however this means a TON of lights in the school. IT adds lots of cool shadow effects but file size could be a problem.

I have started the school. I have decided it is going to be one big 100 x 100 map. It has lots of lights aswell. Now becuase I want to get the demo out to the public the school wont have a sechudual but Just for the demo in the full game students will exit classes and enter them at appropreate times you also will need to do this. For the demo everything (Except the stuff that happens at night) will be avalible to do. This will include 2 gangs with a few quests each along with student council and hall monitor for good players. There will also be a shop, classes ect.

Ahh yes. Well My plan is to have them scattered about. Once you pick them up they will have many things such as cheat codes, new wepons, new armor new skins ect. Very usefull. They will be items. They are also worth alot you can sell them to the "Black Market" Guy who sells stuff at his locker. As for screens, no just remeberd XD i'll work on em now though if you could draw like a card as an item and just upload the graphic tha'd be great. :)

Well there are going to be 10 cards but they will be very well hidden. You can make 10 pics or you can just make a few or even just one whichever you want.

TBH, i think the whole idea of time is incredible. Scripting it i mean. I am doing my best to think of how to do it but i'm struggling on the 'Zombies come out at 9:00, disappear at 6:00 the next morning' type of thing

Update!

After some though I have decided to cut the mall out of the game. It is a HUGE undertaking just to get the demo out. However I will be making an expansion pack with the mall and a few other features. As for the game I currently have a close to finished school, 3 quests for the gum gang and a ton of other exciting features. I would like to put up a demo today but there are a TON of loose ends, once I tie thoes up the demo will be out. :D

Yes. I have some badish news. The mall wont be in the game. Starting on the school I realized how much of an undertaking that was going to be so I have cut the mall out of the full game. I will not totally get rid of it however becuase if this game is ever finished I will release an expansion pack with the mall and a few more features. :)

No actually. I am trying to work with time and in this game that is very hard becuase a whole hour goes by in just one minute. Anyway I probably wont have a working schedual in the school yet but heres what I plain on haveing

- freelancing quests (you don't have to be part of a faction)
- the first few quests of both 1 good and 1 bad faction
- a school with no daily schedual YET

And a few other things. I unfortunatly don't have any more screens as there arn't to many maps worth showing. Ofcourse there stuff to do in them thats what makes them fun not nessisarly the eye candy.

Alright I have a problem. I have to many loose ends. I need to tie everything up for the demo. IF the demo is just a walkaround do 1 or 2 quests demo will that bother you? There is a time feature and most of the maps are done but quests need reputation which is currently unachevable. Plus the only quests are for bad players. This game is close to being canceled but I like the idea I just don't have the wwant to go through all the scripting. I'll try to get stuff done and work really hard for the demo but after that it may be delayed a while (unless I get more of a want to finish the game.)

Best thing to do if it seems like it's getting too much is to just take a break from it, and only work on it when you're in the mood to. At least that way it will always be fun to work on and when you're enjoying it you'll naturally put more effort in without even trying, and the quailty goes up!

Of course if Mike would make some sort of mind control interface we wouldn't have to worry about scripting, we could just think it and it would all become so much easier! :D

UPDATE: I will begin working on the game full force again this weekend if I get the chance. Saturday is my moms birthday and were going up to my grandparents cottage for the 4th of July but Sunday should be free.

UPDATE2: School is being cut from the first demo. Its almost done but getting rid of it will get the demo here much faster and more bug free. Once you have your jaws clamped around that i'll finish the school and bring it out for a second demo. After that a few bugfixing versions and adding some quests and then its time for the full version! :D
Oh and becuase it depends on the school so much you will have to be bad in this demo. Sorry guys.

UPDATE3: Progress is better than expected! Expect demo 1 around next weekend! First page updated with new screenshots and demo predictions to show what you can expect from the demos THIS MAY CHANGE!

Just wanted to say that I'd peeked at your screenshots and everything before and it's all very impressive. It would be fun to have 'something' we could run around in - even if you never finish the game.

Mate, your school compound needs more objects and detail. It's very like a cemetery, IMO.

I've tried only one orginal composition will appear. If anyone knows where to find good midi songs (virus free!) let me know. Otherwise the game (or atleast the first demo) may not have the greates music.

Same here. I'm requesting some assistance with music on a different topic.

Anyways, I looked at your screens, pretty impressive layouts. Though I agree with MIV. You need to add some foundations to the school, lockers, vending machines, crumbled paper, a fountain, and etc. Sometimes you can add a plant for the heck of it.

Cafeteria could use a menu somewhere or a board that says food, and throw some food around to make it colorful atmosphere. Everyone loves lunch to socialize or just get some spare time, it doesn't mean they will always enjoy the food.

EDITED: Some Walls could use some widows. ;]

The windows won't be cut off if you heighten the first wall, and lower the second wall and rest, or you could do what I do, block the area the building is, then place a graphic for the rest of the walls for a roof design.

Decoration could be those sinks wich shoots out water eg.
Mabey you could make them possible to shoot at the students to make them wet :roll:

i've played Bully but however much this game may sound like it the game is about choices. It will be one of the few 001 games that actually use choices as a factor. I try to stray from Bully as much as I can becuase these SOUND so much similare I just am trying to make my game differnt. Although some things are taken from Bully most are original ideas or ideas from several games and ofcourse my favorite online peeps! :D However that dose give me the idea for the quest I needed!!! Thanks to shadowarrior the demo is much sooner!!!! :D

No new screens until I get the new resources done (if anyone wants to make food splatters, Drinking fountans, Funny posters ect. please do.) then some screens. Once thats done i'll put in a new quest and then demo time :D


UPDATE!: Your in luck. I worked on the new resources today and have a few to show. I still have some to do as well as some coming in from fourm users (if you can help see here http://www.engine001.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11976 ) the screenshot I'm uploading shows some splatters of food as well as some crumpled paper for the hall ways and scuff marks. I may add some "things" in the food and I still have some more to do. Enjoy.

Food splatters need to lose the back outline and need to be more messy in appearance. Other than that, good attempt.

When you made skit marks on the cross roads I had no idea what it was, until I read it. Heheh, it's because I didn't see a road, but that's okay. Nice attempt though, I still feel like something is missing in the photo. You probably need extra textures on the splatter resources. If you have no idea what I mean, it's okay! Just grab those specific resources, use that prime color, and change the darkness or brightness of that specific color to show alterations, were it doesn't look so bold or plain. Also, you can alter the way splatters look through the ripples you place them at. Here's examples of the Texture and the Ripples. The ripples on the right-bottom angle appears to make the shot of the food from the right direction.

Thanks for the resource tips. sadly all of my previous progress on this game was lost sooooo back to the drawing board. Anyway I will be keeping the same direction with the remake only I am going to polish my resources more that I have in the past. :)

That'd be really cool, the older versions graphics weren't to bad, but they weren't to good. I like the premise of your game and how you've decided to stick with the many features and things from the first version. Also, glad to have you back.

You shouldn't recreate a new topic just because you're start over... :? I didn't create a new one, when I started Twilight Pendent over five times now. Just cleared the 1st page, but since you did, what's it called now? "Life as a Kid Remake?"

Yeah, but that was 2 years ago. We still have some members who often do that too, like to visit us at a period of time then mysteriously leave without a word. It's not a problem though, but I'm sure we'll see him again. Not to worry. Plus, around the time when he started this project, we were both attempting school resources and ideas. 8) Hope to see him again, with a few updates.

Well im glad to see there was a time when people were excited for this game. Maybe I will work on it again soon ;) I still like the concepts. Of couse I'd have to practiaclly start over now with all the new features

Were there ever any downloadable demos of this? I don't see any on the site currently, can you send me a link to some? It is a super great idea..even if it may be 'too' ambitious. Let me know!

Eventually yeah. I am re-creating this game from scratch as this version is 2 years old and long gone :( still I feel I have a good start on the new game. New topic coming soon once I stop playing battlefield 3 :)
