Grand Strategy Games

Postby Deedasmi » Thu Apr 25, 2013 10:53 am

Hey all. I've been getting more into some Grand Strategy games lately. Are there fans here?

My favorites:
Crusader Kings II
Medieval 2: Total War
Europa Univerllis 3
I've been trying to get into Hearts of Iron 3. It's a little more difficult in the warfare department.

And I'm REALLY looking forward to Rome 2 Total War

Age of Empires is pretty foundational in strategy style (except it's not turn-based).
Hey, I compose custom music for games (for free). PM me about it.

I used to play Age of Empires a lot when I was younger.
I own Medieval 2: Total War and the expansion, but I haven't played it yet :P And I got it last year or the year before.... it's installed so maybe I'll give it a go tomorrow...

You should check out Victoria 2, I heard it was really good. I play Victoria and I like it, but Vicky 2 looks absolutely delicious. :P

I hope Mike used that code I gave him for a free copy of EU3 a couple of months back. ;)

I got EU3 from that code :P Randomly checked my hotmail for the first time in like 2 months and there it was, "free $20 game!" haha.

Also, I bought Victoria 2 somewhere, but I've since lost where I bought it, haha. My favorite thing to do was play China and immediately industrialize. In one of the later versions they made it so it takes 400 some years to industrialize : /

Does Hearts of Iron count?
Somewhere out there, is a planet with no war, no hunger, no poverty, no killing, and no evil.
It also has no oxygen

I haven't played multiplayer. I spent most of my 65 play hours forming the Empire of Hispania. That shit was tough, haha.

EDIT: Oh, and becoming King/Queen of Jerusalem.

In my latest game I started off as Ireland managing to unite the realm just after my first ruler died. Things were smooth, helped on crusades, declared holy wars on pagan states for lols (going far as taking some crap duchy right on the eastern edge. A generation later the ruler of Ireland was somehow Polish and had some pretty poor traits (Imbecile, Wroth etc) :S

srsly try out Multiplayer what ever country you're in I'm sure there is a fairly large CK2 Community. One note though CK2 Multiplayer is a pain in the arse to setup so many opt to use Hamachi or similar as a alternative to port forwarding.

And for all of you out there who don't care much for combat and graphics check the game out pls, only available through steam (as i remember)

I did that one time too, haha.

I should have done an AAR of my playthrough. One of my kings was a dwarf, and every ruler for the next 200 years was female (and dwarf) due to two generations of having no sons. My first male ruler after that created the Empire of Hispanea, and immediately gave his three daughters three of his kingdoms (Jerusalem, Leon, and Castille). Galacia, Aaragon, and Navarra I gave back to Descendants of the original kings.
