Welcome... to Zombie Mansion v3.0 In Progress

Postby Gamerdude » Tue Feb 26, 2008 4:24 am

I know this is my third game related post, but i couldn't hold this in any longer. Putting Monster Warriors on hold, I have made a game called Welcome to Zombie Mansion. You play as Jack Wolfe who has decided to investigate the mystery of the Zombie Mansion.

Story (Part I):

Everyone said that the corpses of the Zombie family still stalked the halls of the Zombie Mansion. Jack Wolfe decided to see for himself if the rumors were true.

As Jack Wolfe reaches the doors to the Mansion, a Voice rings out, "Leave this place...". Ignoring this advice, Wolfe enters the Mansion

Hope it sounds pretty good. I'm still working on the zombie sprites. :D

Although zombie games are kinda worn off because everyone is making them, this sounds pretty cool. :)

well hopefully mine will have a bit more story than just "everyone has turned into zombies so shoot them so that you live". lol. :D

EDIT:

Part II

As Jack enters the foyer, he notices to doors going off in different directions. He decides to enter the door on the right first.

Inside, Jack finds the Butler's Bedroom. A bed is awaiting him there. There is alsoa diary sitting on the table, next to the television. As Jack reads the diary, he realises the horrible truth about the Zombie Family.

it is your mission to discover all of the secrets behind Zombie Mansion, as well as exterminate all zombies inside and out.

No demo, because then you'll know the story.
Screenshots might come later. :D

This game sounds really good, however keep in mind that you have plenty of other zombie games to compete with. Abraxas is a really good one for example.

Yeah, cool idea, but I hope it has some scary lights, and some really good scary story lines. Keep up the good work :)

I'm not trying to compete with any other game (esp. cos I suck at making games!). I'm just trying to make a game that everyone wold like to play. I don't think it is going to be scary at all, though. Unless I add some creepy organ music and creaks every now and then...

Thanks foe the posts guys. It really helps to encourage me to keep making this game.

On another note, I have finished hand-drawing the mansion layout, so that will be used as a guideline.

Methinks the first game competition 001 officially hosts will be a zombie game competition. I have some people in mind for judging :). Stay tuned.

game competitions aye, will we have to make a new game or enter one we have already made?

Game sounds good and gives me ideas for what I can put in Iron Warfare (ha ha, got my motivation back for it, but have lost motivation for Hell Vs Earth)

Anyway, back to topic.

I think zombies are in almost everyone's games because they're easy to do, just make a human green and you "have" a zombie, while for other kinds of creatures you'll have to really work on the sprites, which is hard. Okay, back on topic.

No trailer. Absolutely none.
Although, i may release screenshots to the public after the game has been released, cos then i'm not really ruining anything. Just to the people who havent seen this thread before.

Also, havent been working on it lately, been cleaning out my whole room so that maybe i can get a PC and desk in there. Then i'd be able to work on it anytime.

Okay, it's a little crappy, you can find much better songs out there on the net, but here it is: http://files.filefront.com/Creepy+Organ ... einfo.html Wasn't very inspired today. ;)

The screenshots look cool. :) But I should warn you of something: your maps are too bright, you should make 'em darker to give a more.. scaring look.

In the game, the maps lighting are grey cos its an old mansion, but for some reason they are really light in the screenshots. It may have something to do with the fact that my computer, that i have Map001, on is Windows 98

lol im glad you guys won too.

Off topic: Did this topic lose 2 pages or is it just my computer?

Update:

Nearly done, just linking all maps together, adding in music (thanks again miroki), trying to fix custom resources, touching up the actual zombies, making sure the story doesnt contradict itself and fixing speelin and grammar errors.

However, this game may be delayed as school is back in session and i need to create a zombie child sprite for the *COUGHCOUGH*room.

Sorry for double post

Just so people know, this game is not intended to be scary, just a fun game where you can blow the heads off a few zombies. So thats why when you eventually play it, it won't be scary at all. And it's pretty short. Just you finding keys and stuff

EDIT:
Welcome to Zombie Mansion has been delayed from the non-existant release date because i have to make a huge zombie boss thing. It has taken me several days just to start the head, so this might take a while.

In the mean time, remember this note: This is my first game, so please don't be to harsh when criticising it. I can take criticism, but not harsh stuff. Also, it will only take a good gamer around 5 minutes to complete it. Stay tuned for updates! ;)

Postby Gamerdude » Sun Jun 15, 2008 2:07 am

Yeh, I'm taking it down to test because miroki also had that problem. It'll be back up in at least 2 days. Let me check out the secret room...

EDIT: I found out what was wrong. In the scripting, there was a loose node. And you have to play the game properly so it works. To get passed the bookcase you are supposed to go and talk to the merchant in the freezer room (not the shed). Talking to him raises your wisdom stat and allows you to move the bookcase (thanks to metomunc for this idea). so no sneaking passed the bookcase or the game won't work.

If anyone gets up to the boss, keep it to yourself and i will be fixing the horn weapon frames very soon.

EDIT 2: In fact, those of you who downloaded the game last night, I apologise for the crappiness. Please delete this version, Welcome to Zombie Mansion v. 1.02 will be released as soon as possible.

For those of you playing it, apart from getting stuck in the bookcase, what do you think so far?

EDIT 3: Alright, who rated the game with a 1? That's not very nice ;) Oh well. It's not done yet is it?

man.. those zombie children are scary.. you should add some sound effect, and lots of horro screams.. i have some if you want.. but i tihnk it will be TOO much scary

also make everything dark and give a little torch to the main char. these things will make your game unplayable. it will be too frightening

Yeh, i got a custom hud, but there's not much to put, seeings as its a horror adventure game, not an RPG.

If you got screams Neto, I'll use 'em.

All of those things you said were really good, so they might be in the game the next time around... if you know what i mean... ;)

Teach me how to make a torch and i shall make one.

Also, is the game dark at all on your monitors? Cos each room has a grey lighting, but it could still be pretty light. Should i make it darker?

I will have to wait a few more days to release it, cos it has this strange bug in the maps containing enemies. It makes it almost unplayable. Don't know whats going on there.

Neto: It's not that scary, is it? Lol, the zombie children's heads float off their bodies when they turn side on.

haha, the game is way too bright :D thats why i asked you to make it all dark =P
kinda off topic, but its easy to make a torch:
first make a light anywhere and name it "torchlight" (make it shakes a bit so it looks like fire) , then make a timer and give it 60ms (for good light movement) then in every tick you make it position light in X character position and Z character position. make it runs for 9999 ticks and in the final tick make it restart itself (restart timer, this)
remember you must do this in every map you want torch

also i will upload a pack of horror screams and send you via pm.

okay, i'll make it darker for the update. The thing is, my monitor is very old so what may seem bright to you is dark for me. For instsnce, usually the background of this forum is a dark green color, but i see it as black.

Maybe make the torch for the update, too.

Thanks for the screams.

UPDATE: I have been busy adding little things here and there to make this game more playable. Check it out:

-Maps are now darker
-You can now find a torch to use for the whole game
-Horn weapon frames were fixed
-Credits have been updated

i can't, there's this bug still in it that makes it unplayable. just be patient Taiz.

Also Neto, i can't get the sounds from the pm you gave me, i dont know how.

And with the torch, when i exit a map, the "torchlight" duplicates and one stays at the exit/entrace of the map, whilst the other follows me as normal. I have no idea how to get rid of the extra light.

mmm.. strangely it seems that the last ticker time positions the light on the new map.. thats weird, just add a turn off "x" light on the timer of the new map.. you can figure it out ;)

about hte sound package.. you got the link? and you dont know how to download it
ok, heres the tutorial:

type the letters on the column at the right side of the site in the box below them and press Download Your File Here, then just wait 15 seconds, and click in the Download Your File Here in the bottom of the page, then done!

If you're still needing help with the flashlight, it's easy:
1 - Create an item named Flashlight, and a switch named flashlight too. Also, create a light named Flashlight in the first map. Don't forget to create a timer in your HUD (it will be explained on 3).
2 - On [Used Item] trigger for the flashlight, add a switch event TOGGLE MODE Flashlight, and after add a switch branch. In the left node, do the following:
-Turn on the light in the first map [Flashlight]
-UNPause the HUD timer
In the right node, do the opposite:
-Turn off the light in the first map
-Pause the HUD timer
3 - The HUD timer will make the light follow the player. Set initial and every timer to 50ms (less for better accuracy), 0 ticks and check the box to work via event only. In the every timer trigger, add the following:
-Position Light Event -> Source < First Map Light [Flashlight] > Target < Main >, Main.X, Main.Y and Main.Z.
(see attachment)

I hope you understand it, since it's pretty hard scripting.

mm.. that miroki's way can work too, you just have to set the map as the current map of the main character, but its not big deal tough if you think that position light and timer are the main things you can figure your own way to do this ;)

I'd consider that a script of level 3 out of 5. Not too hard, but needs some basic knowledge if you're inventing the script. It should be very easy for you to make, since I gave you all the steps.

Hmm. I need to see your light event inside the timer, the timer turn on event and the light turn on event.

Oh I forgot to tell you! In the flashlight script, add a last event in both nodes ADD item Flashlight + 1.

There's no need, Mike. I think I got it.
Try erasing the Toggle Switch event and adding a Turn ON switch in the right node and a turn OFF switch in the left node. I'm pretty sure that is the problem.

we're not supposed to talk about it anymore. i'll pm you. And my name's gamerdude ;)

Hey Taiz. Guess what? The game is one step closer to being released cos I (with help from miroki ;) ) finally got the flashlight working. Let's party! :D

And this goes for everyone: Even though you really want to play this game, please don't keep telling me to "hurry up and release" my game, when it is not completed yet. If i release it you will be playing a nearly unplayable game because of a stupid enemy glitch. Please just bare (bear?) with me through these times.

Welcome... to Zombie Mansion is nearly released for good! Get excited. Get very excited. :)

UPDATE: There is only one bug standing in the way of release. As soon as it's resolved, prepare to have a lot of fun!

Yeah, I know. I've just got to ask around about this glitch and see if i can get it fixed. Otherwise you guys might have to wait for the new version of 001 to be released. Sorry, but it's true.

well, here i go

1. you don't actually have to push the bookcase aside, you can hit the zone from the right side

2. zombie kids room, put an alarm at the door, as it is that just stand there until you walk infront of them

3. need to mark the way out of the lab

4. need to not land on the bookcase, or atleast fix the zone through the hole

5. the gun keeps shooting through the monsters and i can't hit them

I meant darker than that! Like almost black, and enlarge the torch area :D
the cockroaches are invencible when they reach near you.
the ending was awesome with the butler guy and stuff
i suggest you to make a 3x3 final boss, like a deformed monster and make it only a bit faster, it would make the last fight prety scary, and i liked a lot the boss edited hud and they way you hae to fight him twice the second one using his own horn makes the fight even harder, awesome
but you havent edited the hud at all :(

i gave it a 8 out of 10

1. i liked the butler
2. i love the torch, (however you made that)
3.awesome boss fight :J

only problems were the bookcase, since i touched the zone near it. and it was kinda hard to exit the lab since the whole wasnt there.
a few minor things but it was really good ;)

I've had MAJOR bad luck playing this game,

First time when I played, I got stuck in the bookself ;)
Second Time i went to kill the children but almost died so went to sleep and when I go in the childrens room again, I get stuck on a child so I cannot move at all!
Third time, the merchant didn't tell me about the secret room :?

1. Yes I know, but if you play by the rules, everything works out.
2. Okay
3. What do you mean? Can't you guys see the hole in the wall?
4. See no. 1
5. Yeh, you have to keep moving while shooting. I adjust the accuracy.

Won't it be too hard to see? I'll make it so you can jump on and squish the cockroaches for next version. I'll have to wait till the next version of 001 comes out for the boss thing. I thought i edited the HUD?

Sketch wrote: only problems were the bookcase, since i touched the zone near it. and it was kinda hard to exit the lab since the whole wasnt there.

Oh, can't you see it? It's on the outside of the wall. I guess it is kinda hard to see, but it's there. And you have to talk to the merchant in the freezer room before you can enter the bookcase properly.

See above for the bookshelf.
I'll have to do something about the children.
Why didn't he tell you about the secret room?

Phew! That's alot of typing.

NOTE:TO get passed the bookshelf, please do NOT click on the zone when standing next to it. You will get stuck when you try to exit. I'll put an event to stop that next version.

Did anyone notice what happens when you stand in a pool of blood on the floor?

EDIT: Fixed everything (except still sometimes miss zombies, can't make weapon any more accurate) and have released new(er) version.

well you've got to think about what people say to you during the story. its like a puzzle game though, where you adventure, and find stuff, and use them in weird ways to accomplish tasks. they were pretty funny too, and clever. it just reminded me of your game silly ;)

To get the weapon, first go talk to the Merchant in the freezer room passed the kitchen. Once he has finished talking, go back to the Master and Madam Zombies bedroom (the room on the left when you first enter the mansion). Walk up the back towards the different colored bookshelf and talk to it, then move it. Enter through the hole, then check out the white box in between the two fridges. Getting out is your task ;)

UPDATE: Version 1.06 released, just made some minor changes.

Obviously it still needs some work cos its only got a 6.6 in the games section... maybe if i used advanced message boxes... Do you think I should?

EDIT: Ooohh nice! It's up to 7.22 now :D

EDIT 2: (Rating is 7.4!)

I'm trying to think of things to add to make the game a tad better, so if anyone had any ideas you are permitted to share them. Only little things, though. Not changing the story or adding maps.

Just wanted to say that V 2.0 is released. Nothing big; just making it look more proffessional by making the HUD invisible at the start.

Did the zombies trap you? If not, just restart and try to go through again, cos if you hold down an arrow key whilst changing maps or going through a door it can sometimes screw up the character. Dont know why :?

i can think of a few ideas:

lever system where you need to pull leavers in order to open a door, each leaver is numbered and the order can be found on a sign in another room. when you pull a wrong leaver something jumps out at you.

hedge maze. if you need a hedge wall picture ill send it to you

I had a map where a bird had a key tied to its foot in a game i made ages ago. theo bject was to catch the bird before it flew off the edge of a cliff, which would mean you wouldnt get to enter that room that the key was for

hope i could help

I still couldn't figure it out, is there a specific order you have to do it in?

I talked to the merchant behind the kitchen and the one in the house thing past the door, I think it was a backyard...all they did was sell me stuff, they never said anything.
I have ? awesome points!

Hmm.. let me check...

Nope, there's nothing wrong on my end. Start another game and talk to the merchant in the freezer room (the one after the kitchen), you don't have to talk to the one in the garden. The Merchant only says it once. If he only says "Oh, you're back" then he's already said it and you need to go move the bookcase.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to tell you! I'm updatin Welcome to Zombie Mansion. It's the biggest update so far (but it's still small). I've edited the garden and added a hadge maze and more enemies. I'm also going to add hotkeys. A new Menu system, too (thanks hellblade!) Suggestions for what to use hotkeys for would be greatly appreciated. :D

Thats what I originally though of, though its not very inspired, is it? I might do that, cos I'm stuck for ideas, though.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, there is also a side quest for treasure in the game now. But I need suggestions for what the treasure should be.

Suggestions should be like:

*Money
*Items (Medikits/Ammo/???)
*Talk to Gamerdude001 (Pretty lame lol :) )
*Cheat codes

EDIT: I have been fixing up some tilesets, too. Its nearly ready to be released. Here's the Update summary:

UPDATES:

-Hedge Maze
-Edited Tilesets
-Side Quest (Still need suggestions for reward)
-Hotkeys
-Menu System

Oh. I had to take out the lightning lighting because of the hedge maze. The sound FX are still there, but no lights. I'll put them back in if we get a "Change Sun Color" event.

You can use screen fading for lightning effect, dude. Make it white in 100ms, a Pause(100ms) and then Fade in again in 100ms.

I like the holy water idea but you could also do XP and money. Depending on the hardniss and legth of the quest it should offer differnt and more rewards

Short/Easy: Money
Medium length/medium difficulty: Medpack(s) maney
Long/Hard: Holy water (or all of the above)

Each can come with XP. Ofcourse it is your game do what YOU want but thought I'd give some suggestions ;)

There's no XP in the game. Money sounds good, but you dont really need that much in the game. besides, the quest is just solving three rather simple (one is quite hard) riddles.

Miroki: Thanks for the tip.

Holy water... sounds like an interesting concept.

I was actually working on a Caravhan mode (where tons of enemies come to attack you and in the end you fight Master Zombie) but I can't get it to work properly.

Keep your suggestions coming please :D

The long hard one gives holy water the others give money. If you give the player very little money to start out wit it will make this more desirable. ;)

Played the game and I really enjoyed it.

There is one error in the game, when your going through the flower room and end up in the patio (The room before backyard), if you keep moving right; a script error appears.

You can call me an idiot or be polite and just say "ignorant", but I played the game and actually found it quite confusing. I can't seem to find the Zombie Slayer, for starters.

By the way, as far as music goes, it would be a lot creepier if there were silence most of the time. Not to mention the music you have has a scream that gets annoying after the first 5 times.

Good :) It's supposed to be puzzling. Someone else want to tell him how to get the gun?

Which scream? I can take it out if many people don't like it... :(
The song was miroki's, yes. I quite like it. I don't like having a silent game, because not enough people have sound in their games.

I have never played either of those games. This game is purely original, except for the concept of zombies in a mansion, of course.

EDIT: Version 2.1 is almost ready. This new version includes:

-Edited Loading Screen
-Menu System
-New Backyard
-Side Quest
-Less Money (Increased difficulty)

All I have to do is fix the character interface and it will be ready! Hope you enjoy it.

Well, now that we can release games, I guess I could give you guys my game.. but I'm trying to fix some bugs (again) my games are always attracting bugs... huh.

There's not going to be any character interfaces, though, cos it screws up the game (plus I'm having trouble with them, so...)

Expect it this weekend, new and improved :)

*IMPORTANT*

Hey everyone.

Recently I have had trouble with my computer and it has deleted my project files, but luckily I still had the built version. So, this is it. The last update of Welcome... to Zombie Mansion, v2.1. IT has one bug, in which that when you go upstairs, in the room before you fight Madame Zombie, you MUST get the key from the box nclosest to the door in order to be able to get back after killing her.

Enjoy.

Well, Zombie Mansion's future isn't looking very bright, but I have a trick up my sleeve yet.
I'll be honest, I didn't work very much on Zombie Hospital, so I can restart that no problem. In fact, its my new main focus now.
And besides; there's always "Part Three" ;)

LOL! I just saw the tombstone that says, "Edgar, a wolf hunter all his life until he was killed by his wife." Yeah! Go subliminal advertising!

This is a really well made game. If the visuals were better I think it would be a ten!

Mhm... well, i could ask Mike to restore it, but about 40% of the visuals were custom, meaning they were wiped out when everything else was. So, I'm afraid that if he does restore it, all my tilesets will be missing, leaving huge gaps all over the place. And it sucks cos I really wanna fix that bug and continue to update the game... it was my favorite...

This game looks like it could be a great game but I'm finding it very difficult for a few reasons:

1) I've figured out how to move the tombstone but I get a scripting error about a ladder when I do that. What am I doing wrong here? Is this hidden room necessary to complete the game?

2) There does not seem to be anywhere that you can get ammo. The merchants don't seem to carry it and the 50 rounds you get with the gun don't last you far. Even killing the zombie children takes a good 30 rounds. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Ohhh! I thought those energy things were for the torch. I had no idea they are ammo! I wonder how anyone was supposed to figure that out...

With extra ammo I could probably get much further now. Thank you

Well, seemings as the torch is one of those wood-and-fire ones, it wouldnt use the energy cells. If you look inb your items, the energy cells would give you a hint about being the ammo type. :)

Anytime :) It wasnt meant to be too long or hard, but Im glad you liked it.

I was actually thinking about remaking this, making it ALOT better than before. I talked to Mike ages ago about him recovering the files for me, but nothing yet. I'm too nervous to ask again

What happened to Welcome to Zombie Hospital? Are you still making it? Why not just make that really good :D I like Welcome to Zombie Mansion how it is, even thought I have only played the first full version released but I think it was only slight changes you made aye?

My mistake...I assumed it was what the British refer to what we call a flashlight.

I can make a few suggestions about how it could be improved.

First, get rid of the errors, of course. I couldn't get into the secret chamber because of some error. It was a bit disappointing to figure out the riddles and then finally get to the tombstone and not be able to enter.

There's also something funny about the bookcase. I realized that you can only move the bookcase if the merchant tells you about the chamber. However, the dialogue with the merchant only has him tell you about the chamber half the time. I had to restart the game 3-4 times to get him to tell me about the chamber.

There is an image on the top right of the screen that obscures some key items. For example, in the chamber where you get the gun, there is something you are required to look at in the top right of the screen that is being blocked.

Once I found out how to reload the gun, none of the bad guys posed any threat. Perhaps some stronger enemies would make it more interesting.

Hmm... Yeah, I'm sorry about that, although I was able to enter it myself... can anyone else verify this?

Yeah, hellblade got this too... I'm not sure why he does that. Maybe just bad luck? I'll check it out and probably change it when I get the folder back.

Yeah, I noticed that too. That was my mistake. I will change the HUD completely. It was a bit of a last minute thing, so yeah. Sorry about that.

Maybe I should have difficulty levels, cos I nearly died alot of times when I played it, but its too easy for you? Hmm...

The only place where I died and had to restore a game was when fighting the 2 zombie kids. They are more tough than anyone else.

Truth is that it's really your game and your decision as to how to proceed. I think it's really a good start and a bit more "map" would be really cool. I don't know if you played Maniac Mansion back in the late 80s but your game somehow reminded me of that game. You may want to draw from some of those ideas if you can get ahold of the game or a walkthrough.

More detail would be pretty cool but how about a few more stories to the mansion? Perhaps a dungeon in the basement...? An attic with some baddies in it...? Each level with some hidden areas?

And so on

Ok, if that's the attic then how about a second or third storey? A mansion should have at least 2-3 stories in addition to an attic.

Yeah, good point. They should.

Free roam is like with lots of side quests, secret areas, and basically los of maps. I mean, I dont really know how to incorporate more areas into the story. But when I get the folder back, expect a few important changes.

Ah, that's where it gets fun. There are countless ways to do it.

- You can use the same theme but beef up the bosses and introduce better weapons.
- Perhaps there's more to the butler's diary upstairs.
- You could have the hero get locked into a room and have to get out.
- A side quest may be to have a task to "help" someone who can then become an ally in vanquishing the bad guys.
- The maze at the end of the game was a nice way to stretch it out. How about a few more mazes?

Update:

Today is a great day. I had Pm'd Mike about restoring my project and to my surprise, he had already done it. So I have the project files again and am working on the 3.0 version, the very last (hopefully) update.

Be excited...

Definitely. Emphasizing on the Graphic Improvements. There weren't too many bugs left after I updated it 11 times, but there's one or two.

I'll probably work in some new features and stuff too... :)

I never found a way to get past the hedge maze or open the locked door in the area just before, will that be changed?

Yeah, the mansion looks pretty plain if you ask me. Some gory customs would look great.

The red door on the left. And by the way, unless your game is supposed to have a camp, cheesy atmosphere, I think it would be a good idea to remove the screams and laughs from the music and change a bit of the storyline.

Edit: By the way, how do I get out of the hedge maze? The tombstones don't work, I can't go in the well, and the hut isn't helping.

Okay.

Go into the light green door out the back of the mansion. Kill the children, get the key. Go through the red door, up the stairs and through the door. Find another key in the room you are in, go through the door. You will be with Madame Zombie. Kill her, go through the door at the bottom of the map. Kill the zombies, go into the next room. Search in the coffin to get a key. Go back outside and to the well. Press enter. Voila.

This is going to turn into a full on walkthrough soon

Okay. Enter the mansion. Go into the door on the right, the green door. Read the diary, find the torch. Go into the next part of the foyer area, watch the cutscene with the Butler. Go through the door. Go through the Blue door, go through the next door after getting into the kitchen. Talk to the merchant. Go back to the first room in the mansion and go into the door on the left. You should be in the Master and Madame's bedroom. Go up to the bookcase that is slightly different to the others. Press enter, move the bookcase. Go through the hole. Get the gun out of the white box (a dishwasher) and go up the the back of the lab. Examine all of the vials, including the one at the top-right of the map that is hidden by the HUD, a mistake on my behalf.

Find another key in the room you are in, go through the door. You will be with Madame Zombie. Kill her, go through the door at the bottom of the map. Kill the zombies, go into the next room. So, the whole reason that I've never been able to properly play the game, was because Wolfe refused to move the bookcase??

No... Wolfe doesn't refuse to move the bookcase. He just doesn't know it leads to a secret passage until the merchant tells him. Wolfe only knows what you know ;)

And I knew right from the start that it would lead to a secret room. It's just that back then (2008 to a few minutes ago), I didn't know that buying something from the merchant the first time you meet him breaks the game.

You don't have to buy anything, I forgot to mention. You can just go exit.

But if you buy something from the merchant, he will never tell you about the bookcase. And still, seriously, it would take a total moron to not notice the different colors of the bookcase as well as the obvious mobility.

Color change is there just incase a total moron does decide to play my game and can't tell the difference.

If it looked the exactly same as the others, and I hadn't told you how to find it, would you have found it? That's why the color change is there, to give the player a hint.

It was interesting, that's for sure. By the way, what happened to the sequel?

Stand in front of the bookshelf, not to the side of it. That should fix the error.

Go talk to the Merchant in the freezer room, but don't buy anything the first time you talk to him. Then go back to the book case.

You using new art for this one?

It's odd, there's not been a whole lot of nice games using the new art yet - would be fun to see it used well :D.

Even if you don't, I really do want to see how this game turns out :D.

Mike wrote:You using new art for this one?

Well, I could. I was thinking it could go two ways. Because the current version is made up mostly of default graphics, I could use the new art and just use this game as a way of showing visitors to the site/people who play my game that a good game can consist mostly of the default graphics. The other way to go was to just update the graphics using custom resources, which I was leaning more towards.

evergreen wrote:Care to share some of the contents of the brain storm?

-New graphics
-New interfaces (such as message boxes, finding items, puzzle solving)
-Definitely going to get some more puzzles in there. I love puzzles :D
-New areas to explore
-Thinking about making a slightly different ending

Mike wrote:Even if you don't, I really do want to see how this game turns out :D.

evergreen wrote:Would love to see a new version of this game.

Me too. This was my first decent project on here and I would like to see it keep up with the times.

EDIT: Was also thinking about maybe adding an Infection level that increases with every attack you sustain. Not sure about it though.

One other thing - I was thinking about changing the name of this game. It just seems a bit corny or bland. What do you guys think?

The title isn't bad. I think it fits the comical mood of the game pretty well. Glad to see you're pursuing this classic again.
