The Canton Beast (Demo Up)

Postby TheRunner » Wed Nov 10, 2010 8:42 pm

"The stories seemed impossible..But they aren't."

I only thought I was dreaming when I ended up in the dark woods of Canton..Nobody ever comes here, they say there is a beast living
in the cave. I never thought it was true myself, either way it's dark, and I'm alone..

In the Canton Woods.

"My day started out the same as every other, my night though..That's a different story."

You play as William Hector, average living civilian. Caught up in a big turn of events.
All taking place, somewhere in The Canton Woods.

(This is a Game in Progress, I'm working on Tile Sets and all of that, it's going to be side scroller, I'm not currently at my computer so I can't show sprites or screens. But as soon as I get home I will try to post them)

Features.
-Extremely Dark and eery game, has shocking sounds and will probably scare the crap out of you.
-Side Scrolling
-Action/Mystery/Adventure type game
-100% custom resources

Wish me luck.

Word of advice, good horror is through subtly eerie environments, familiar things in unfamiliar ways, and use of silent sections where the player is left to decide what is going on rather then the PO seeing whats going on.

To add to that, the music is key with good horror.

Can't wait to get a screen shot of this, having never seen a good side scroler horror game. If you can pull it off it'll be one of the first truly scary games on 001. (IMO)

Sounds like it's got potential. What's with all the dark games popping up? Halloween's over.

Here is what William Hector looks like.

William Hector.

I want him to be really young, 18 or 19 years old. So he will be in a Purple Hoodie (Which the hoodie will sometimes be up)
With just casual blue jeans and black hair.

William Hector is a High School drop out, and he lived with a couple friends in a small house next to Canton woods.

Now the real challenge comes into play (Animating him, lol)

Doesn't look like it should be too hard. At least you don't have a ton of shading to deal with.

Actually I'm going to try and make the actual tile sets as detailed as possible.

Thanks, the demo is done. (You get to play the Prologue((Tutorial))

It took quite a bit of work, but I wanted it to be very scary and dramatic.

The gameplay isn't very scary lol. But there are some scary things that happen.

I just have to do some bug fixes in the game and I will put the demo up.

Very nice use of Flash Screen and interfaces. Gave an eerie vibe to the game. Just a couple of suggestions:
- If it is supposed to be the woods, why not have a background of trees? The background could use some filling in.
- Get rid of the message boxes and just use text fields, so the player doesn't get stopped every two seconds.
- Is the player's walking speed so slow for a reason? May I suggest speeding it up or else speeding up the frame speed under Sprites?

Overall, a very good start to a game.

Thanks, I will do all of that for the final release.

I'd like to note a bug; If you fall in the first water pit, you won't be positioned correctly when you respawn. (endless falling loop)
Doesn't occur on the second one though.
Can't wait to see more. :)

Yeah sorry about that, I forgot to play the game through before uploading it.
I want this to be a very clean game, no bugs, errors or any of that.
