Playstation 1 - Discussion

Postby Tydome » Sat Apr 23, 2011 6:43 am

Today i picked up a PSone (Smaller version of the original, and better some how for only $25 AUD in good condition) because i felt nostalgic. The console itself was cheap but the games were all used and around $10 - $20 (Some were like $50 - $100, must be because it is very rare) After looking through some of the games i picked up 007 Tomorrow is not Enough (Decent shooter, but enough to keep me occupied)

Any suggestions for PS1 Shooters, RPGs or anything that stands out. I'm already trying to get FF 7,8,9 but wasn't in stock at the store. :(

Really, most of you guys would of played or owned the PS1 Console at one point or another. Just because it's a old console doesn't mean it ain't fun or doesn't compare to some games today.

One game that I loved on the PSone was that racing game, it had a clown on the cover and was like metal racing or something..

Anyways, one of the cars was an evil clown and it was freaking amazing. That and some old submarine shooter that was awesome at the time.

Twisted Metal. ;)

Uuuhm. Siphon Filter 2, Duke Nukem: Time to Kill (Both third person shooters, but they're classics. I can't really name any FPS on PS1 besides Doom and Doom 2), Legend of Dragoon, Wild Arms... I didn't really play RPGs on PS1 or 2, so I can't be of much help there...
I might be able to think of some more later.

My friend had Soul Blade and I was totally sucked into it... I used to own at Tekken, but today I suck so I don't wanna play it anymore. Those are fighting games.

Rayman 1 and Hercules were good games too, they're sidescrollers.

Retro Gaming FTW. If you're still playing it today, it must be really good.

Nintendo 64 was the first console i ever played, through i didn't know what i was doing lol. Just pressing random buttons and stuff. But the PS1 was the Console that got me into RPGs and shooters.

I saw Legend of Dragoon on Amazon for a good price, checked it out and it looked naice. Might get it.

Those Small LCD screens for PSone cost more then the console itself lol. :?

Spyro: Year of the Dragon was a great one. Soooooo nice. My fav game yet. Now almost all Spyro games are crap, though...

I was playing some Soul Blade on ps1 today. Best gaming experience I've had in a long time. Games today don't do it for me like the golden age of playstation.

Edge Master mode is... Unrivaled by any other game I've ever seen. It's just fantastic.

Have to argee with you there....
I often finding myself buying disks/cartridges for older systems instead of buying the newist games  maybe its a mix of that they are better then 90% of games that come out today and the low cost of them that makes them such a joy to buy and play?

Well one of the biggest series games on the PS1 and still can find new games for PS2 and PS3 is the Resident Evil series. I would say Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 have the best storyline and gameplay match.

Emulators do rock, I cant find coin op arcades anymore like when I was a teen in the 80s so Mame32 and every coin op rom keep me happy from time to time.(from Asteroids up to Zaxxon 2875 ROMs) Also Stella for the Atari 2600 is fun if you want 4 bit or 8 bit graphics flashback. The N64 never had a decent emulator and Goldeneye was one hell of a cool 4 player game there. 8)

I personnaly hate emulators(on the computer anyway)
i would much rather have a emulator on a console( Sega ultmate collection)
but all in all i prefer to have the orginal hardware if possable :)

Einhander:
Shoot-em-up game I loved to play when I was 4, I still play it using emulators...
It's a 2.5D game (3D graphics, side camera)

Really, you HAVE to play it.

Siphon Filter:
Third person shooter, I love all the Siphon Filter games for PS1, even the PS2 one is good (Dark Mirror)

Medal of Honor:
FPS, i won't say anything, play it, it's awesome!

Resident Evil Nemesis:
Third person. I won't say it's a shooter because you can't control the aim. You can only turn your character to face the enemy and shoot, but apart from that, most awesome resident evil game.

C3 Racing:
My father loved to play it, I not too much but i need to say it's pretty cool. The main "objective" of the game is to modify your car's properties (suspension, clutchs, aceleration and etc.) based on each race. You can only win if you modify your car correctly, otherwise you will have a hard time.

Every time i try to remember things my heads remembers a lot of them, but when i start to think about each one, my brain "wipes out" all the data

I will come up with more games as soon as my mind restarts... lulz

Yup!

Metal Gear is also awesome, it's like the Splinter Cell games (you do good to be sneaky). Also, really big game. The in-game dialog is awesome, i could say the best around ps1 games... It can actually pwn some actual games...

Metal Slug *-*
I played all of them on, i don't known the word in english... Those machines you put a coin then you can play...

Tomb Raider, Fighting Force (AWESOME).

There was a game that i played, you could choose between 4 characters i think, one of them is Captain America and the other one is a baby on a robot-exoskeleton-thing. The baby, while idle, pops some gum bubbles LOL
(So yea, i can remember of an iddle animation but can't remember the game's name... THANKS BRAIN!)

I have a PS1 that I bought for $20 a few years ago, but I still pretty much have my PS2 that I bought about a decade ago that still functions just fine (I bought mine shortly after they fixed the buggy first models). I still have all of my old PS1 discs from the mid-90s.

Breath of Fire III and IV
Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX
Arc the Lad I, II, and III
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Silent Hill
Resident Evil I and II (I was never fond of RE3, even though I do have the Gamecube port of it for my Wii)
Incredible Crisis (very fun, very underrated game)
Metal Gear Solid
Legend of Dragoon (despite all the bad reviews it got, I still enjoyed it)
Grandia (probably my most favorite J-RPG ever)
Parasite Eve (I'm still looking to buy PE2, even though it wasn't as good as the first)

Those are all I can think of off the top of my head, but I've got much more than those.

All great games, but in conmstrast to RE, Legacy of Kain, Syphon Filter, and the Drivers series I think come out winners. I still love the RE's, but after 3 they got dumb.
