RELEASED!

Your refuge has just been over-run by zombies and you break free form there to an ally. You know there is a rescue team at the airport. and thats where you need to go and be carful, These zombies can run! You only Almost everything makes a noise, thats why its a big file! There is also hords of zombies. You will get a partner to help you though the way to the aiport. Hope you can make it!

Very good game. I'm impressed with the details and stuff you added to it. :)
I'd like to point some things out:
-The windows talking guy is REALLY annoying, please add a way to disable voice.
-You should add sounds for your weapons.
-Also I thought the game was a little too easy, maybe adding a hard difficulty option for experienced users? :D

ya...i forgot to disable it. lol

i was thinking that to. and i was also thinking about adding sounds to zombies when you shoot them.

Simply lower the guy's stats a little at the start when a guy clicks the 'hard' mode, or start him off at a different, identical map with more powerful versions of the monsters.
It's up to you how you define 'hard', really.

You could raise enemies' speed and stats as well. There are several ways to make your game harder.

i just made the enemys hp and attack higher and lowered the players attack and def.

Really, it's up to you.
Make it hard any way you want.
But if you make a 'Hard', try to make an 'Easy' for not-so experienced players.

well i think anyone could be good at making games. i just work on levels till there perfect and constanly test them and i got nothing to do and makeing games and playing them is all i like to do. lol

Very good job on the Demo..This is going to be a great game when completed.. Does the Demo end on the second floor when you open the door and it goes nowhere?

Well, keep working on it. It's not much on scripting, but repetition, really.
Try adding a little... interesting stuff on each level.

well... I am trying to keep all the doors abled to lead or do somthing and i still have to make all my sprites for the bosses and enemies...so, i wonder how this is going to work out... :)

well i try to add swarms when the time is right not just everytime you see a zombie. and i try to make the game possible too finish, unlike some people who make a game and never test it...they just fly through it... :roll:
and you will just love what i have for you in the mall in the next demo or completed game. :D

Make sure and test from the beginning every so often. You catch alot of problems that way.

Yeah! Way to go! So I'm not the only person that has non-001 users test my games. I just thought a while ago that this game would be ridiculously more intense if all the color was reduced to make it more gray-scalish. If only there was a way to put some kind of a screen over maps so that the color is magnified or reduced. The other way to do it would be to re-adjust everything in the game.

She's already made her first game...
which I thought was 6/10.

ya. :D i have 2 updates i can share. one is that the first bosses design has changed slightly. the second it that when you get to the subway you get on one of the trains but te train starts to moove and you have to get to the front to stop it. :D

Update: when you kill the first boss he doesn't really die. when you get on the train will transform into another boss the flys.

this game is takeing longer than i expected. im having trubble thinking of what happens next. so post things that you think would be good. the part that your idea should start is "you just got off the subway train, after killing the next boss" what will happen next? plz post. also if you idea has anything to do with have you add a partner in it, it will most likley be choosen if you can think of a way she would be usefull. plaz stop the idea at a point where they go to a church. thank you. :D

After you beat the second boss and then a dog comes up to you and barks and then runs away, turns toward you, and then barks and runs further away. Then you follow it through some places and it leads you to the other person.

THATS PERFECT! and when the dog brings you to the person she and the dog can help you kill zombies and get to a church! where the dog is sadly turned into a zombie and trys to kill you.. :(

I liked this game. Just a suggestion but don't give away things that will happen in your game like saying the dog turns into a zombie its more tragec if the player finds out himself/herself. :)

I just finished the rogh design of the boss and i am now just touching up the edges.

Update!!! I removed the mall completely and i am going to add a complete full size airport at the end. Also, all and i mean all zombies make noises when they see you, get shot, and die. The boss makes noises too whe nshot and dies. All guns in game may have sounds also. Male and Female zombies have completely different sounds. Zombie dogs may be removed from the game. Health and Ammo is going to be more hard to find. zubway is going to be a fairly large level now. There will be someone joining you in the subway. thats all i have for now, but sence the mall is gone the game is 2 levels shoter than it was before but it is harder and filled with more props

update! added more props and effects to levels
props:
boarded up store windows
pay phones
old pipes
graffiti
dangleing wires

effects:
added rain to all outside levels with rain sound
added a disturbing green tinted fog to the sewers to make it look more durty

maps:
church or hospital level may be added


put church or hospital at the end of you post to vote witch one you think should be in the game plz. :)

left 4 ead is the game.

I know its hard, forgot to add more health packs. also now they give you 80 health instead of 20.

Try reducing their damage a bit, or increasing your health.

Is there only one zombie variant that attacks you throughout the game (excluding bosses)?
And will they be more difficult over time (in the demo one or two shots took care of them)?

the reason why they are so easy to kill is becuase there are so many of them, and if they were to hard then you would be dieing alot

I like the changes you've made in the second demo. I finally finished playing it. I really don't like zombie games, but I've got to say that this one is really well made.

I found fighting my way through the sewer to be challanging. That is a good use of a single map.

update: The levels are getting into greater detail, im adding cracks on walls and streets and more blood spatterslol. the thing im having problems with is should i remove all boss battles and make special infected, but that would be way to much like left 4 dead, but would it make it funner? :?

Thanks for the details.
And you don't need to remove the bosses, just add slightly stronger zombie variants into the mob (e.g. for 15 or so of those generic guys, there's a hyper-fast one among them, or a tanker etc.)
You know, variety. Nobody wants to see the same zombie over and over again, and it adds to challenge.

And I'm fine with hospital. Most creepy parts are based in the hospital.

Well like you could have a group of zomibies but there would be a few with better stats to vary gampplay a bit. I think "tankers" is refering to the tank in left 4 dead :D

Maybe in the later levels, you could make one spawn with the mob. A fast one, a strong one, your choice.

Update: I have added a alarm tothe door you exit through the hospital, well it could be called a fire exit. which will atract more zombies. :D

That's actually a good number. What if you had switches that could trigger radio-controlled explosives? That would be awesome for stopping swarms.

Very nice. Some of the brighter colored blood effects look a bit fakish, but nonetheless cool. Be careful that the usage of lights may lag up the game quite a bit.
And work on that hud, the HP bar looks basic. Try a creepy-looking holder.

most details will be edited soon to look realler and I hope that flashlights will work when 001 V1.5 comes out. then the game will get much darker and creepier. ;)

Well i think mike said that flashlights where haveing problems but he fixed them to where they work now in V1.5. but if you can show me how to make a flashlight i would be extremely greatful. :D
Just the only thing is that you would have to put the directions in good detail becuase im not good at finding stuff on 001 that i dont use very much. lol

well i would like it if i could have the flashlight on all of them so you can see in dark areas, but the only really dark place is in the sewer area or about 3 levels that need flashlights.

and now there are cars with alarms!
if you touch them or shoot them the alarm will go off and a horde will come. :D

Update:
    I made it to where every time there is a horde, and you have low health, less zombies will come, but if you have close to full health then alot will come. :D just to make is easyer for people who mostly have low health and harder for people who mostly have high health.
    When Tori(the person who helps you) gets health below 20HP she askeds for a health pack, but only if you have one.
    Tori's and Ian's (the person you play) hair styles has changed

what do you mean by when you leave the fire alram door? but I could guess that it is becuase there is a timer and I probably left the player within pixels number.

Look on the top right of the image I've attached. When you leave that door, the program crashes or freezes. Sometimes you see a new screen where the text shows "Tori" and then it freezes.

I realized that it seems to only crash if you are switched to Tori when you leave the door but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I completed the game.

It's an ok game. You could embellish the story and the puzzles. Right now, it's mainly about moving from room to room shooting up bad guys.

Looking forward to the next release.

Well I made the game where you should really only play Ian though the whole game or some things will not work...
also I was thinking of adding some puzzels but i dont see how they would fit into the game?

The scariest moment in the game would have to have been when I was in the apartment complex. I had just fired my weapon, attracting a far off zombie. I heard door after door open before the zed finally emerged. You should capitalize on that kind of horror in Desolation.

Sure, here are some suggestions:

First, perhaps build more of a story-line. So far it's pretty much getting out of the house, through the sewers and then through the hospital. There's a bit of story of meeting another character - that's good and makes it interesting - but how about building it up a bit?

Second, there's always the old "find a key to open a lock" puzzle that's overused. However, there are many variations of this that can be fun. Such as finding some codes in the hospital to open doors to let you out. Of course you have to do the code part when you are not being swarmed by zombies. You can hide all kinds of stuff that you need to find in order to progress to the next part of the goal of getting out.

Third, side quests make things more interesting. Perhaps have some ways to get more weapons, health or cash.

Lastly, most games have stores. If you could level up your character(s) and buy more weapons/health/ammo, that would really make it fun.

I liked many things about the game and I think it has strong potential, as I said before.

you know what would make me really mad for a quest lol. haveing to go to the very begining of the game to get a key from a room you unlocked when you get to the airport. lol

p.s. I dont really like to add levels cuase that makes the game sorta unrealistic, so I just add more stronger guns as you go through the game and I will surely add some puzzels to the next version. :D

When I said "level up", I meant that as the player kills zombies, you get experience points that eventually advance you to the next level where the number of HP and attack points increase. That gives the player motivation to kill zombies rather than run.

Again, it's your game so I'm sure you'll make it however you feel is most fun.

i know you ment level up, but I also want the players to have freeedom if they want to run they can run if they want to fight they can fight, but I guess i could figure out a way to make it where if you kill enougth zombies you unlock stuff.

ya i have fixed that to where you can now see the door at the bottom.


Update: The blood when something is killed now matches the surounding blood and Tori's shirt is changed. ;)

In the middle of a fight tori asked for a med kit, Will the message box took it's time to tell me this the zombie hordes turned me into a meat wad.

Otherwise I loved the atmosphere, even got freaked out at one point, although a lot like left 4 dead.

Ok, probably some of you are wondering if im going to put the 3d sounds in Desolation...well I'm not going to becuase the game is nearly complete and i dont feel like changeing all the sounds and other things.

But Desolation 2 or Desolation: Pulse as it will be called will have all the new features, and yes I have planes for Desolation: Pulse and it has somthing to do with the airport whne you leave, but you will have to find out your self when i release the full verson of Desolation. ;)

Wow, dispite the fact that I'm not much into 001 shooters this is an amazingly good game. I really like the fact that the sound tracksuddenly stops once all the enemies are dead, but then you encounter another bunch of zombies and it attomatically restarts.

When I was running through this game I really found it to be the Left 4 Dead of 001. All in all you have made one of the best 001 games out there.

Also, I've been making a zombie game myself and was wondering If you would be so kind as to send me some of the zombie sprites you have (torn off limbs, mangled bodies, ect)? PM me if you need an E-mail.

I igive this demo a 10/10. : )

Update:Delayed Release of Full Game. A few things I must change due to the updated version of 001 all that which should make the game even better. :D

here is a pic of the new airport still underconstruction. if you walk thorugh the metal detectors a alarm goes off and atracts a horde :D

Im working on the last level and it will be sorta like left 4 dead's finales. and you will run into an old foe. You will also do another thing when getting on the plane to leave, but im not ganna give away that secret ;)

Already downloaded. About to play it right now :D

Edit:

Big problem. After finding Tori and fighting off the Horde I can't get any further because the wooden barricade won't break even though I keep pressing enter on it. I also tried shooting it with my shotgun and pistol along with knifing it. If I could; I would have thrown Tori at it too.

Also, if you start walking back to where you entered the subway, the event is triggered again and it replays the cutscene. Zombies don't attack but it's still kind of annoying, hehe.

Edit again:

It says I wasted all my shotgun ammo but I can keep shooting. Then it says I've 67 bullets left in my handgun but I can't shoot it. (the clicking noise keep coming up).

Yeah it's kind of hard but I've got a way you can beat it 8)

Just stand in front of the door in the washroom and kill the zombies that come in until he says there are too many. Then dip as fast as you can to the room south of you, haha.

Sonicnerd: It doesn't ask me to give Tori a weapon anymore either. I don't know if you took it out purposley or it's a bug. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

well, shes doesn't ask for a gun till you get out of the subway, but you can still give here one at any time. :D
also if you get stuck on the finale, heres a hint:
start it, and run back to the door you came out and go into the narrow hallway. i cant be specific or it would giva away the ending, but if you want to post a more specific way, then go right ahead. :D

another hint: give the girl the machine gun and you use the shotgun. I hope that makes sence but doesn't completley give it away. :D
also its the other way around when on the finale

Great haha. How did you beat it?

There are a few typos in the beginning of the game. Not really bugs but you know; adds more proffesionalism.

I started again (because of the save bug in 001 right now) and now the event won't trigger. The zombies stopped spawning and the main character can't open the door. Not sure whats up there, heh.

Another Script error I came across was when I ran into the room where all the infected spawned from. The error said:

Script Error in Zone 1
Event: 2 Compiled Line: 0

Error: PO Cannot walk from..ect.

Edit again:

Restarted the game and the event triggered. Sorry, hah.

Wow... very nice. Got up to the finale... and died. It takes me too long to swap to Tori, give equip the health pack, use it and equip a weapon then switch back. Other than that, very nice. I shall go back and try to finish it now.

But what do I do after turning on the petrol thing? Just kill lots of zombies and wait for something to happen or what?

well, i can fix that later today, but you can try this. move ontop of here and change to here and give and use the healthkit then switch back to the gun

I also think i need to clean out more bugs so i can rerelease it, agian lol, so please dont download it untill then. :)

OMG! XD I forgot to take that out when i test the game, not to see if you can servive but just to see if the scripts work. lol :lol:

I reuploaded it now



Updates:some small Desolation Updates will be released every once in awhile, including new weapons and some minigames, like a "Survival Mode" like L4D to see how long you can last with an endless swarm of zombies. :D

I see that you can't save the game. Do you know when that will be fixed? Also could there be a hotkey for health packs? It takes way too long to equip them, use one, then switch back to a weapon when you're surrounded by zombies.

The saving problem is a bug in the 001 engine. Mike has already fixed so we need to wait for the next release. Or you can suscribe and get the fixed version now!

ya, i could never find out why the saving wouldn't ever work, but now i know. :)

Also if you need to heal just move to where your standing in the exact same spot at tori is and the zombies dont go after you, which is a HUGE glitch to me and will make the game so much easyer, also you can still shoot the zombies while standing inside here. :|

my favorite weapon is the knife. it can kill more than one at a time and is good for small hordes. :D

Haha yeah that last part of the game was pretty hard. I tried runing back into that small hall way where you come in from but I got swarmed before I made it in :(

I hate what you've done with the controls in the full version. Why remove the jump button and the previous weapon button, why add a button to permanently disable the flashlight and not atleast tell us what it is? As much as I hate to say it, until that is changed, I don't think I'll end up finishing the game.

You shouldn't let "bad" controls ruin one of the best 001 games for you :)

do you even read any of the directions? the controls appear right as you start the game and im sorry about the end to reful the plane that it doesn't tell you to refuel the plane, then when its fueled you can get in... :?


if something doesn't work the first time you might want to do it AGIAN! becuase the scripts are so long it may mess up... :?

agian, the medkits work on mine, and i dont see why they wouldnt work on yours and you press "x" to change the wepon. :?

hmm...thats a great idea i think i might do that, and during the game make these little bubbles pop up that tell you hints and controls if you forget and stuff like that...this might take a while... :lol:

Thats what I did with Fantisy, on the menu there are -Gameplay Tips-.
You should do the same, have it state thing about how to kill commen enemys, and stuff like "Don't touch cars or the alarm will attract more zombies".
Basic things like that.

I never really reviewed this game so here goes:

"DESOLATION"

(8/10) Game-Play: The game play was relatively fun. I liked the aspect of how loud noises attract zombie hordes. But, it was relatively basic. There, weren't a lot of paths for you to choose from and all you did was walk and shoot zombies, with the occasional defence portions.

(7/10) Story: The story is probably the worst part of Desolation. There where only about three cut scenes in the entire game and the story was very basic. But, the game did focus on game-play so it wasn't a huge problem. As a matter of fact, I was having so much fun I didn't really notice the absence of story.

(10/10) Graphics: The graphics in this game were awesome! You included tons of textured customs and it looked great.

(9/10) Sound: The Left 4 Dead sound effects were pretty nice, but you did repeat the same sound effects for every single door, or zombie, which got on my nerves. I really liked how almost everything made a sound when you bumped into it, and the music was very ominous.

(7/10) Re-playability: The re-playability wasn't great for this game. Since it always followed the same linear path it isn't something I found myself playing again and again. I actually only played the game twice.

(8/10) Innovation: (A new category in my reviews. It shows how much the game took advantage of 001's new and advanced features.) This game wasn't extremely innovative, but you did add almost 100% custom graphics, and you made it so that almost everything makes a noise, which was pretty new in the realm of 001 games.

(8/10) Overall: Overall this is a great game. It had stunning graphics and great sound. The game-play was pretty fun, but not spectacular. It was really good, but not quite a 9.0 game.

Rating: 8/10 A Great Game

He has a point. Just hope that Desolation 2 has a more developed plotline. Sure, it's a zombie game, but who said all of them must have bad plots?

Trust me desolation 2 will be completelt better than desolation one, there is more paths to choose, more zombie types, more gore, more details to the maps, and the town is accually real (its aspen, colorado so it will be cold and snowy), a MUCH MUCH MUCH better story and plot(i hope), and takes full use of all the new features of 001 :D

the only reason desolation wasn't very good, is mostly becuase the new features came out and i didnt want to start desolation over with all the new features, so i just finished it so i could work on desolation 2 with all the features. :)

oh and the fist demo should come out late june, early july time period.

Yeah, I think I rated it fairly. It's a great game, don't get me wrong. But not exactly as good as Wolf Hunt or the likes (It's really short, and the fact that it has no free roam is a factor).

Anyways, good luck with #2.

Just finished for the first time :)

I think that this is a very well developed game, number1sonicnerd. Well done :) It wasn't too hard, it certainly wasn't too easy, for me anyway.

One of the best zombie games here, in my opinion. :)

Don't think it's the horror games. It's not really too horror-ish (I mean, i didn't freak out at any point of the game), but zombies, probably.

So, just get working on it, then. It doesn't matter if both are zombie games, what does is that both are unique from a typical zombie massacre.

In the house area after the construction site I can't get out. It says its the end of the demo isn't this the full game? EDIT: Wait sorry I havn't downloaded the full game that was the last demo that was still on my Computer. :oops:

This game is pretty good so far. Playing through it right now.

OK two things:

- The objects in the HUD are off both in and out of windowed mode.
- I got stuck right here so that I couldn't move right after the first wave of zombies: (SOOO annoying!)

i think the hud is off becuase i have different screen dymentions
and do you get stuck there everytime or just once? p.s. your not suppose to o that way...

No, it means you forgot to check Maintain Distance from Edge for the HUDs.

Just finished the game, I have to say well done. Well done. I think it was a tad short and I got piled with ammo. but otherwise very well done.

Really nice additions. I really like all the detail. This game would not work without it, especially since it's linear. I got all the way to the plane at the airport, but then my girl friend got stuck facing left toward the wall of the terminal right when I entered that map. I walked around and found the turret where the rescue team "didn't make it" And pressed ENTER at every point around the airplane thinking I could climb into it. Does the game end there, or did a glitch prevent me from moving forward?

I hit that snag to what you do is you turn on the gas truck and a coutdown will start then when the game says go go to the plane and it will end.
