Legend of the Lost Swords -DEMO-

So I just uploaded the demo the of my first game "Legend of the Lost Swords"

Just wanted to put this up here for everyone to see. So go test what i've been working on for the last about three weeks or so and give me some feedback please. I hope the demo is enjoyable for you all and I hope to here some things back.

Special thanks to the Dev. Team of 001 this is an excellent program! Can't wait until the new update :)

Wow! This is pretty cool. It reminded me of a more colorful more friendly version of Fable. I really liked it so far, but I didn't play it with any sound so I couldn't hear if there was any music or sound effects. I'm guessing there were some though because the soldiers in the barracks talked about the quite where they were. My two favorite maps in the game so far were the theives camp and the beginning map. The variety in each map is astounding! Also, I really like the story in this. There isn't alot revealed in the beginning, but it could really go somewhere.

Here are some suggestions (Take them how you will):
- Add fog in any outdoor maps (this is done in "properties" at the top of the 001 program while you are editing a map) Just to give it some depth. You can adjust the amount of fog and it's color also so make a little variety between maps.
- Check the items and adjust them to fit your game. (I don't mean visually, I mean make sure they work. Some equipment couldn't be equiped (leather gloves, for example, need to be assigned to either an Accessory slot; use the item editor to do this) - Use "Action key pressed beside zone" in more places. Alot of the signs are really close to doors and I was reading alot when I didn't want to. If you make people push ENTER while they are close to signs, then they have the choice whether or not to read it.

Great game so far. Keep up the good work!

I played it.

For the building with the save zone, you should have a once branch so that message box saying what it is only shows up once. When using a potion you shouldn't have a message box saying you used it because you can get killed while it's open and it can get annoying ;)

As much as possible, minimize message boxes' usage in the middle of any battle. You can get killed like that.
And remember Once branches, mainly for quests and such. It gets troublesome seeing the same thing over and over again.

Thanks for the feedback so far! I'll fix the things you all have mentioned and release a fixed version in about a week or two.. it'll have a few more maps and quests and reveal a bit more about the story.. Until then I hope for more feedback and ratings.

I forgot to mention in my original post.. A special thanks to those who have uploaded resourses.. They are a really great help!

Also, Im a bit curious.. Did you all find the game at all difficult or where you able to pretty much play without dieing? other than the fact of message boxes during battle of course...

There is nothing that actually says you've finished the demo....

If you've:
1 found the puppy
2 killed the bandits
3 fed the orphan
4 found kents daughter
5 helped the fisherman
6 gave the diamonds to the golbin king

you've done all the quests that are available

There is also a person that will teach you how to mix a defense potion, and a person that will teach you a water blast spell.. If you've found those people and done the quests thats the end of the demo.. I should have made a definate ending but I was so ready to have some feedback on my progress so far that I didn't :S Lolz the update will have a defined ending :)

You might want to clarify things on the quests. I wasn't sure what the lady's dog looked like and I never found it. You might want to say, "please find my red dog." And then make only one red dog in the whole game.

Because if it's slightly free-roam, it can get a bit confusing.

About the Quests:

There will be quests that lead to other quests(Quests that deal with the plot). Others will are optional and you don't have to do them- They do give you some exp, items, ect.

As for m4nd1ble's question:

They are free-roam on the demo. (They is really only 1 quest that deals with the story)

I'll make it more clear in the next version...

But for now here's a hint.

The ladies dog is the only dog in the map, and when dog is touched by player a message box will appear asking if you want to see if this is the lost puppy...

Like he said, make it clearer. Give a description or something, and make the other dogs react differently when examining them.

Well.. All the others dogs in the game say "Ruff Ruff" or something when talked to.. this one reacts when touched by player...

Yes Its an RPG.. and the story progression will be more clear as I add to the game.. in the demo the only thing you really learn about is the basic story of the Blood lines...

I didn't want to give to much away all in the first small peice of the game it's going to be a fairly long game when it's finished...

Then build up suspense not by making your game free-roam. Make a climatic point in the first part of the story, and end the demo there to urge others to play on in your actual game.

Just an update.

I should be releaseing Demo v.03 soon

It will be basically the same as v.02 except the lighting is fixed, flashlight is working, and characters that have quest info will have icons above them, also added an objective arrow.
