Trade Skills

HardcoreHobbit here, I need some help in developing a game. Here are my main questions:

*Any ideas on how to make "trade skills"? Like mining, smithing, lumberjack, ect.

*Does anyone know any good programs to make new and more detailed tile sets BESIDES paint?

*How do you make it so if in the beginning they chose to be skilled with a longsword, so that they are particularly good in that skill, and really nothing else? Are there catagorys you can put your weapons in?


*I just want peoples ideas on this one: What are some quests that seem fun to you?

Please answer in full detail. I want all the help I can get. Thanks!

I'm making a "trade skill" in my game, Cafting. You can craft Bows, Arrows and so on. But, this requires some scripting and many items.

You could explain the scripts to him - you're more familiar with this than I.

compraition branch to check if has metel
(make an item as metel)
comparistion branch to check has hammar
comparistion branch (optional) to check x and y axis to see if near avil
msg box to ask if want to make what item
pile of comparistion branches (optional) to see what smithing skill is (make skill as smithing) if ye whant to make it sos they can`t make somethin if dah level too low
add/remove items to remove metal, and hammar
add remove item to add a item (what the item der makein)

this should work but i not shure

Lots of choices here. You can try it.

Not as of yet, so you'll need to use variables to change how much damage/statistics when equipped for the item. Pretty complex, so I think it's better if someone else explained that.

Thanks guys! Really helpful. Too late to add them into Reign Of Jupiter. Possibly my next project, The Outlaw Game.


So I figured out how to make the blacksmithing trade skill, along with the blacksmith job. You make three types of weapons: Bronze, Iron or Steel.
Levels: (you start out level 5)

Bronze: Level 5

Iron: Level 10

Steel: Level 15

What I did was make Smithing a statistic, and then whenever you complete a sword, you gain one level. I did that NOT by adding experience, but by changing the stat so it added one. These are just the metals for the begging job. I'm going to make a Blacksmith's Clan in the outlaw forest that has better metals that you can make. Like: Cloud metals, mithril, ruby, diamond, and if they have a high enough skill, titan.
