RPG Survey

Postby Wonderland » Sun Sep 11, 2011 9:54 am

I made a survey on RPG games for you guys. I may show you the results when I am done. It shouldn't take very long. Mods, please move this if this is the wrong section. This should be interesting... :D

I took the survey ^^
Somewhere out there, is a planet with no war, no hunger, no poverty, no killing, and no evil.
It also has no oxygen

Since we have 25 people now, I will start giving the results. I will just have to ignore any new results, if they come in after this point.

1. What is the most important part of a game?

Story - 37.5%
Gameplay - 62.5%
Graphics - 0%
Sound 0%

Overall, the results here are not at all suprising. Gameplay is the most important part, then story, and then graphics/sound.

2. What is your favorite RPG?

Since this question was so open-ended, I will just say that Fallout 3 was pretty popular. A lot of people picked Earthbound too. Someone even went as far to say that their favorite RPG game of all time was one they made themselves. I was surprised to find that TES: Oblivion was not mentioned, although Morrowind was.

3. What do you like to do in RPGs?

Follow The Main Quest - 47.8%
Do Side Quests - 21.7%
Just Play Your Way And Do Neither - 30.4%

4. What do you like to do in RPGs? (Activities)

NOTE: For some reason, all the percentages on this one add up to 516% instead of 100%, so I will just show how many people chose each one. This question is multiple choice, by the way.

Level Up And Change Statistics - 23/25
Solve Puzzles - 10/25
Fight - 20/25
Explore - 19/25
Customize Characters - 19/25
Do Quests - 12/25
Chat (With NPCs or other Players) - 9/25
Buy/Sell Stuff - 16/25
Progress Skills - Mining, Alchemy, Blacksmithing, etc. - 15/25
Other - 6/25

Some others included Raiding, and being emotionally inspired. These are quite interesting.

5. Do you visit any video game sites regularly?

IGN - 26.1%
Gamespot - 13%
Nope - 65.2%
Other - 3 People

The most interesting other was http://www.gamereactor.no, which is in another language. These results honestly surprise me. I thought most gamers who had internet used IGN, lol.

6. Have you ever played an MMORPG?

Yes - 92%
No - 8%

I thought the results would be 50/50.

7. Do you like games with stories?

Yes - 100%
No - 0%

This last question was stupid, to be honest. Oh, well.

There are the results. Feel free to discuss them, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I took your survey. And no, I absolutely despise IGN. :P

That being said, I constantly go to Kotaku, Joystiq, The Escapist, and Massively to keep myself informed. All excellent sources without that paid off IGN bias.

What? There are lots of good free singleplayer RPGs out there. You just have to dig deep.

Hmmm... For free? That's going to be a really tough find, outside of flash games. I personally can't name any, if you mean like get it free- legally. But lets not discuss the other way. :P

There are a lot of good full games and demos for free on Download.com.

They are mostly JRPGs though. Anyway...
