What instrument do you play?

Postby ITB » Thu Jul 01, 2010 1:27 am

I used to play the violin for school. I played for 3 years but then I got busy and quit. Now I'm thinking about playing the didgeridoo. Look it up. You Australian guys should know what it is.

The didgeridoo is pretty awesome.

I've played the clarinet, recorder, piano and guitar. I suck at all of them, except the clarinet I was apparently pretty good at.

Was told I played remarkably well, especially considered how little I practiced. I don't know, I often don't think about it, but it's something I could pursue some day again. I don't know, I'd prefer becoming good at guitar, but I guess we'll see what time will tell.

You should continue doing the violin, it's pretty awesome. Something I'd pick up some day.

Yeah... But it's not something I really wanted to do. I was just doing it to get the extra credit.

I'd rather do something I want to do, and practice on my own time ;)

I play violin, but my father no longer wishes to pay for it for lessons after the next season ends. I don't really practice much either, I'm mostly only interested in music theory.

At first I didn't really care, until my teacher showed me a program that apparantly could write and play music. Then I took interest in writing music, and it's how I ended up writing songs for different genres.

If I have enough money, I would like to buy an electric violin, then put electric guitar strings on it. I saw a girl playing Purple Haze by Hendrix on such a violin on TV. It sounds strange, but it's really cool!

i used to play clarinet for two years when i was a child, if that counts :P Now i am trying to get good at electric guitar, i suck though because i dont have anyone to teach me and i have to learn it on my own. I take classes for acoustic guitars, but those classes are not so good. So far i've only learned 3 whole songs there, and i havent gotten so much better. I learn more by practicing on my own because i get to try out new and more challenging songs to practice, instead of the same old.

in september its been 1 year since i got my guitar! :D

Yep  me too.
I play all percussive instruments (anything you can hit or play with your hands) except the harp and most orchestral strings. I really like keyboard/piano because there's so much you can do with it. I also play guitar and am learning violin and accordian. I'm not really good at any one thing, but I prefer the keyboard simply because I like composing and stack recording and you can create so many versatile sounds and emulate other instruments.

You can listen to one of my recorded songs on Myspace: search "metomunc". Not the best song, but it's the best recording I've got so far.
Who should I really listen to?

digeridoo is apperantly dificult to play because you need to learn how to breath in through your nose and breath out of your mouth at the same time

I play violin in my school orchestra since my dad told me I had to take up an instrument in my previous years. I'm way old now and orchestra is now something I cannot get out of. I'm thinking about quitting next year though.

Well, I do like Orchestra though, being in an orchestra is actually a nice experience...coming together to create wonderful songs, but next year is when I'm going to have to start taking it seriously. I honestly don't want to make a profession out of it, because next year I'm going to have to start treating it like that...*blabs on and on*

So in conclusion, it's great, but it's not something I really want to do for the rest of my life, like as a job or something.

yey conclusions! :D

You mean it's an electronic? Or the switch is just stuck? If it's the switch you can fix it pretty easy.

I've been playing guitar since I was 2 years old. So over 20 years now. I play tap style like Andy Mckee if you know who that is. I also play at least 1 show a week at my local bar and the occasional wedding, but I don't get paid, just get free drinks

Is a Les Paul in black/gold worth 240£/340$? (1800kr.) And how about amps? How much are they worth?

Is that Gibson or Epiphone? Epiphone is the cheaper version of Gibson, so if it's Gibson then definitely not but if it's Epiphone then maybe. The only difference between the two really is price, so if it is Gibson then it wouldn't be as good as Epiphone for that price. I would spend a little bit more than that though. I have an Epiphone Les Paul that I paid $1000 for and it was worth every penny. I also used to have a $300 Epiphone Les Paul and it was kinda crappy. I'd say go for it though, just be sure to invest in some better pickups and maybe a new neck.

I'm not very familiar with electric guitars, so I have no idea. I saw it hanging in the front of the window. I have five grand that I've been saving through the years, I really don't like making big investments either. Since I almost don't spend any money, 340 bucks is an unusually high investment for me.

Maybe I'll buy it once I get older. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be cheated for it.

Im not familiar with Epiphone and Gibson, but i know that usually when a guitar costs 1800 kr its pretty much a newbie guitar. Recently i spent 13 000 kr alltogether on a guitar, amp and a pedal to get the sound and quality i wanted. But there are some pretty good newbies too that are worth the price. You should try out the guitar yourself to see if its worth it. Personally i dont think 1800 is that much. Its less than i have spent on pedals. But dont buy it if you dont like the sound. As for amps you might get a discount when buying it together with the guitar (well, at least i did. It saved me 3 grand) so when you are in the store you should try it together with the guitar to find the one you like the best. If you're looking for a very good amp in newbie priceclass you might have to spend up to 600-1000 kr on it. Thats at least what i think, because i havent looked at any amps in that priceclass before. I got it for my birthday so i dont know the price for my newbie stuff. But i guess about 2500 kr alltogether with a bag and a tuner

My brother has an Epiphone(it's good), I'm not sure what it is though, he also has a washburn begginer guitar. He got his first one(the washburn) for a pretty good price for a newbie, like 300$ with a tuner and amp.(he has 3 guitars right now, one being an acuistic)
