Postby Deedasmi » Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:59 pm

We made up a badge system, where players would get badges to show in their profile. This is gonna replace the ranks and such so post count isn't such a big deal. If you want to help out, you could send us a 24x24 icon for any of the badge achievements below.

Addict - 1000 page hits/month

<3

I think that there should be awards for contest and a badge for if you subscribe, admin, mod, beta tester.

I think in the profile, there should be a section for "Bad Badges", so if someone gets banned, they get a BAD badge, same with probation, warnings, etc. Like maybe a "Warning" Badge showing how many warnings the user has. (Like 1 red badge per warning, a grey badge if there banned)

Please also explain the "Points"
001 Player - 100 points
001 Gamer - 500 points
001 Reviewer - 1000 points

Also explain the % too please :D
Resource Master - 75% of resources 4-5

Also just badges that are Manuel like "Friendliest member" "Most Helpful" "GFX Expert" "Sprite Master" ETC.

I think "Addict - 1000 page hits/month" should be changed to something similar to "Resident" or "Hit Master", as people may not want to have "Addict" status.

I think a badge for playing and rating a certain amount of games would be awesome.

points is a system coming with games later on (possibly)

like i said, this is open for discussion evergreen, for the exact reason of the names being possibly offensive. Such as forum addict/spammer names. Changed to resident, thanks

The sample game contest might have a badge

Betas/mods/subscribors already get colors, no badges

Numbers, most people don't like their number of warnings open to the public. and 2. we don't want people trying to a "Survived probation" badge : /

sprite master/gfx master - included in resource master

most helpfull- theres already a helpfull badge there

friendliest- what happens when its between coc1 and scav? two awsome users, one doesn't get it :P and besides, kinda not needed

I'm not sure if "Bugger" would be the best word to use. But the rest seem like good changes.

I could do the artwork on these. Unless it is imparative that Pierre does them for stylistic purposes.

I wasn’t aware of any of this until now, but I’m certainly willing to do it. Overall, I think it’s a pretty good idea.

Those upgraded tilesets (amongst other fixes and additions) were all completed last summer. They simply haven’t made their way into 001 yet. I don’t have nearly as much to do as you may think ;)

Yes, there’s quite a few icons left for me to do, but that’s hardly difficult stuff to do. I’ll talk to Mike about this whole badge idea later today and see where it stands in my current list of priorities.

becasue warnings are based much on the mood of the mod/admin, and many other factors that are not set in stone, i would say that a badge for going warningless may not be the best idea.

And me and mike already discussed other forms of reward for contest winners, we havn't fully decided wether there will be a badge or not however.

Any new ideas?

There's no way to properly judge if someone downloaded a game they played it. But something for having rated, say, 90% of the games and tutorials, could get a badge. That way if they leave for a long time, they'd appropriately lose the badge.

And this is crazy Deed's... I've been on a couple sites with this and it's really nice. I never thought that it could be here! Also I think the amount of months subscribed should be on some of them.

Well, some of them are nice, but they should be difficult to get (something like making more than 3 games with 8+ rating by at least 5 votes or submitting 3 tutorials with Extremely Helpful rating).

So your saying make it to where the game badges are to be earned like the resource badges by submitting
enough quality work to earn it not just one great game... I like it but I do admit I don't know of even ten members here that is going to make more than three games. Let alone three games that could be 7+. But instead make it to where after 20-50 votes then it gets considered for the badge. 8)

I have no comment with the tutorials since Deeds is head of that now. ;)

Edit: It might be a good idea to stick this so the new subscribers could see it on top without any bumps. :)

Okay, I have a system ready. Now we just need someone to make all these badges.

Stephen was to do them, but he's quite busy with 10 other things I WANT him to do, soooo. If anyone has interest and has good icon drawing skills, have at it.

They need to be GIFs, 24x24.

Probably is a good idea someone else has an attempt at these. However, I would work a lot faster on these if I knew how to represent each individual one. Does anyone want to maybe share an idea for each achievement?

The style works - not sure if you should include such a thick border though, since there's not much room to work with to begin with, but that's just me.

I think you should keep them, since at one point, you did have a 9 game. Perhaps the number of votes should determine it though, since it can easily be abused?

Maybe the system could check what rating the game is at after a certain amount of people have rated it. Therefore it has shown that a good number of people have actually rated the game high.

Wouldn't be accurate, as 'x' amount of people have rated one game, compared to one that has received much less ratings.

I think it would kinda suck to have a game 9+ for like 13 days, then have it voted down to 8 or less. :P
Maybe a counter for the number of days at that ranking, in case it goes down or something?
And one could argue that it would take forever to get to the vote requirement. There are plenty of great games in the game section with under 30 or so votes. What do you think would be a good number of votes needed for the badge? I say around 10 or 15.

I would just say after 20 votes if the rating is 8 or 9 then they get the badge. 8) Because that way it say the game is well known in the community and is enjoyed also.

Edit: I say if the game goes down then they keep it. Like Xbox achievements if you get up to a rate of 5 star battles average and get the achievement. But two months later you can only hold 4 stars at best you still have the achievement. Because it is what got you there. Not if you can stay there.

But keeping a rating that people have told you that you no longer deserve isn't fair to the people that keep their rating above a 9.

It could always be dynamic. It could check every week if anybody's rankings have changed, and remove/award badges appropriatly.

I agree with 24, but I think 10-15 should suffice. I really can't imagine 20 people playing a new game and voting the game very efficently. Much less, I don't think all 20 people who do play, would vote straight after. However, I do think that after a game have reached that requirement, they deserve the badge. I already know that as years go by, players change their styles but the game remains the same, so as new versions release and gamers release new games, the old games don't compare. I think members should be recognize for at least holding a game that was rated 9 for a certain period or breaking the requirement.

Thanks guys! :D But I do see your point Deeds, I think the profiles overall score should not be as how I said with games because you could make two 9 games then come out with three 5 games. That would bring the profile down to a 6-7. Then that badge should be taken away because it would be obvious that the member in question has dropped in quality. But that would be if we want a badge for overall game ratings. Which would be in my mind a good badge to have. Because I think it could show how a member can make more than one game and keep a high score. 8)

What about resources? Should that only be measured in quanity? I think rating should have a saying in this. Otherwise almost anyone could get those badges. It would make it more interesting if it was like "Resource beginner: 5 resources rated Very Nice" and "resource master: 10 resources rated extremly nice" or something like that.

Actually, scratch what I said. I was planning on having "x5" on some of the icons, or times whatever number. So if you have 15 resources that are 9+, you get the 9+ for resources with an x15.

Also files are still small enough. This also applies for JPG, but the quality of the image will suffer more, the smaller the file is. The bronze badge I made is only 760 bytes as a PNG. The others are around 1 Kilobyte. For comparison: A bmp file with 24 x 24 pixels and 24-bit color depth has 1,74 Kilobytes. Everytime.

Like I said, I don't think the border works well.

It would also be good to be a bit more colourful, akin to the icons within 001 itself.

I guess the border just seems to be that big. it's only 2 pixels. The rest is the frame that will be applied by the webbrowser.

Oh! Maybe a halo for people who haven't had probation ever. No warnings is a bit hard to do - and we've changed our policy quite a bit concerning this.

Agreed. But the positive side of the halo is that new users are introduced to the badge system and everyone (who hasn't been on probation) has at least one badge and doesn't feel left out.

anyway we could incorporate that into 001 games when multiplayer comes out? So we could check if the user has a halo, modify something in the game? Could be fun to reward people that have played a lot of games, or not gotten in trouble, etc.

Yeah, we talked on MSN about having access to player's information, such as if they subscribers (so subscribers could get bonuses in games). Having access to number of badges could be possible too.

Muscial Appreciation: For submitting 10 new music to the site and writing 5 tuturials about enhancing music within a game.
Art Appreciation: For submitting 10 new resources to the site and writing 5 tuturials about enhancing artwork within a game.
Writing Appreciation: For submitting 10 new articles to the News001 and writing 5 tuturials about enhancing stories within a game.
Program Appreciation: For submitting 10 new tuturials to the Tuturial page and recieving an average rate of good.
Language Appreciation: For submitting 1 game to the site and translate in 3 languages.
Game Appreciation: For downloading 10 new games and vote for all 10 games.

These are just for users who would like to gain these badges but they need to place some effort, probably more in certain topics, in order to show appreciation in that very subject.

True. But I think there are people who would do anything to get points, so I think this would give them a challenge, plus it allows foreign people to be able to play more games. More games, more foreign people might be interested more. I mean, if I were to know Chinese, I'd probably go and play a game that's easy for me to read. If I see alot of chinese games available, I'd probably mention to my friends and hang around the site. :D

Yes. First is Portuguese, then comes Spanish, then German, and then French or Scandinavian. Can't say exactly which one is bigger.

I wouldn't make a game in my native language, simply because it attracts less attention. Now, if I had to translate a finished, English game, that would depend on how much translation there had to be done. A fullblown RPG, no. A simple arcade game, maybe. That's why I translated 001: I didn't think there was going to be much to translate compared to how much it might contribute. There was much to translate, but I made it.

Yes, and who writes 5 tutorials about the same topic? Moreover, tutorials are measured in voted quality and quantity, not about their subject. We'd need to moderate people who submit tutorials just to give forum badges.

Should add stars onto the discs, 1,2, and 3 stars for bronze, silver, and gold, respectively.

Make the star much bigger; then it might look nicer.

That forum watcher reminds me of 'Fudu'... :D He has a big eye on his avatar. But his real membership name is fudu2557, something. :3

Thank you! I can never remember his user name specfically. One time, I messaged him, if it is alright, if I call him 'Fudu'. He said it was alright, but then, people don't really know who I'm talking about! :D So, I'm glad you knew!

Hehe. Either means Opening Poster or Opening Post.

(Some people say "Original Poster/Post", I just prefer opening).

The badges should be visible under your avatar or the sig area

Put them in completely random pages. Like the helper badge shows up on the FAQ page for everyone that has it, the bug smasher is in the 237th post in the random chat thread, and the halo is only visible in the workspace.
