Host families?

Postby Ixayou » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:29 pm

I've come in a jam here in my exchange year, where I don't get along with my host mother, and my school hasn't been very welcoming AT ALL. I'm currently in Duluth, Minnesota, and my contact person from my organization told me that I probably won't be able to change host families, and most likely not school. I was told to ask people though, if anyone knew somebody who was interested in housing an exchange student. The organization told me it most likely had to be in my school district, but if there isn't anyone then I might be able to switch school or maybe even city.
Please, if you live in the US (perferably nearby Minnesota) could you just ask around if you know anybody who could've been up for it? I'm kinda on my own here, since my organization isn't helping me out by finding families, and neither the school or my hostmother is cooperating for me to like it here. If i go home, then i will have to pay back my scholarship as a loan (like 15 grand) and all of my hard work for getting here will be for nothing.

Yours sincerely
Lisa

If you ever find your way to Milwaukee you're free to stay at my place. :P

Sorry to hear things aren't working out for you. What's the problem with your current host mother? :(

She's over 60 years old, blonde and wears more makeup than I do. Chemistry isn't there, plus she's been kinda mean sometimes.

And guess what, NO INTERNET

Sometimes life doesn't always work out how you want it, but if you persevere it will all be well in the end. I suggest you try to make the best out of your current situation, because one day it will be worth it. The path to happiness is usually never easy, and it's very important not to let your emotions get in the way.

Weakness equals failure, but strength equals victory. And life will chew you up and spit you out if you let it, so be strong and it will be worth it. Nobody said it would be easy.

This is not about easy or hard, this is about me spending all of my savings and a whole year of hard work on this and not getting what i paid for. The people who are supposed to look after me isn't, so if something happens to me I'll be screwed

I'd say Texas since my mother is very open to new people, but you wont be near Minnesota. :(

Nel mezzo del camin di nostra vita
mi ritrovai per una selva oscura
che la diritta via era smarrita.
Ahi quanto a dir qual era è cosa dura
esta selva selvaggia e aspra e forte,
che nel pensier rinuova la paura!
    Tant 'e amara che poco è più morte;
ma per trattar del ben ch'i' vi trovai,
dirò del altre cose ch'i' v'ho scorte.
