Survival: Death Row *Halted Until Further Notice*

Survival: Death Row
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Information:
Survival is a secret project that I have been working on for a while now. It is going to be a rather long game, with many towns and quests to explore. I have worked hard on this, especially cutscened, HUD, items and general scripting, so when it is released I hope you enjoy it.

Story:
Brock was a new kid on town. He and his father had just moved in, after having to relocate to suit his father's job. However, after Paul, Brock's father, leaves for work one morning, Brock receives a phone call that no teenager should get. Turns out, his father never arrived at work. He's missing.

Six years later, Brock is still living in the house he and Paul moved into on that fateful day. All is going well for Brock, until another phone call, from his long-time friend Jack, begins their adventure to find Brock's dad and find out the truth about the phantom that suddenly begins to haunt them.

Features:
I am trying to make this game rather unique and exciting, so I have included a number of cool features not seen in many 001 games today.

List of Features:

-Armor System
-Bank System
-Battery Flashlight
-Cheat Codes
-Custom HUD and Loading Screen
-Custom resources
-Custom Stats
-Detailed, well-lit maps
-Log Book, Detailing Quests
-Many towns and cities to explore (1 City in Demo)
-Mojo Cola!
-Sound FX and Suitable Music (Not in Demo)

***List will be Updated***

Screenshots:

1. Jack's House
2. Your House
3. Loading Screen
4. Phantom

To Do:

-Finish Ashville (First Town)
-Add Main Quests
-Add Side Quests
-Debug Project
-Add Sounds and Music

Bugs:
None

History:

v1.0-Unreleased (Current)

Credits:
A few people have contributed to this project, in more ways than one.

List of Credentials:

-Miroki123 (Inspiration, Scripting Help)
-Metomunc (Inspiration for Bank System)
-Numerous Members (Resources)
-Dunce (Mojo Cola)

***List will be Updated***

Seems pretty good. Let's see how this turns out. :)

Update your features list once you get some more stuff up. And, from what I can tell about the story so far, it doesn't seem all that far off from being a Voyage for Vengeance clone, but that's just what it sounds like so far. Make sure it's origional.

Well, actually, I know it does sound like VfV, but I actually started this before miroki released it, which is why I haven't said anything about it until now. I was worried about getting exactly that kind of attention. :(

Well, I guess no one's seen the end of his game so they can't be identical, unless you guys are on the exact same brain wave length. Just make it unique is all I'm saying.

Unique it is :)

Also, just a note that if it is anything like VfV, I apologise and I didn't mean to make a clone.

But anyway, after I finish the first town, complete with story and side quests, I might release a small demo. I know it sounds too early, but I was working on this game long before I created the topic. :)

Well, our stories diverge a little bit: mine is to revenge your father's death, while gamerdude's is to look for him. Anyway, a lot of RPG games have things in common, and that doesn't make them clones of each other. Keep it up. :)

Agreed. Looks interesting, but remember to deviate from the VfV plot. Please do, and it'll be great.
Besides, he never said Paul died.

Of course. :) But be warned, most of my game is also set at night, so it may seem familiar from miroki's game.

As long as the background has some deviation as well.
Nothing wrong with that.

The maps. You definitely can't have exactly the same MojoCola shop with the jukebox and the zombie, can you?

I just tried it, I'm trying to upload .pngs because bmps make the pic load slower, but it said:

Image file type mismatch: expected extension bmp but extension png given.

Is this a bug in the site?

EDIT: It won't upload bmp's. "Extension Bmp not allowed".

Oh, okay.

EDIT: Finally, some screens have been posted. There a little plain, but I didn't want to give away too much of the demo. They've also been resized, which explains the slightly-crappy quality. I'll definetly post better ones later, after Ashville has been completed.

I'm also having trouble making a title screen, because the first I made was too cartoony and the second looks very fake and none-spooky. Any ideas?

Yep, Fuse Boxes. Alot of the tilesets in this game are custom, but not all of them. A few are from the resources section.

m4 wrote:Just get a skull and add some blood.

Hmm... a bit cliched, don't you think? Besides, this game has more to do with ghosts and phantoms than skulls and monsters... although zombies play a small part in it, too.

You might want to try making some zombies of your own.
Try sawing off a few random parts here and there.

Yeah. Main enemies are thugs and possessed people. Sometimes Police Officers.

Lately I've been working on side quests. I've got around 4 or 5 side quests, which mostly tie into each other. For example: You have to free a Jailbird before you can unlock his sleeping point (his house), but to free him you have to distract the guard, which will only get distracted after you help him with his problem. Yeah. :)

You'll see. If it's too tough for people to figure out, I'll just add them as stand alone.

I also added armor that you can use to take damage, as opposed to health. Just tweaking it to perfect it, at the mo ;) Its pretty cool.

The way you're describing it, it should be.
When will the demo be out, for god's sake?
The suspense is killing me!

No, but some of the things that I need or want arent included, so I have to make them. I'm always finding new things that I have to make, which is a pain, but worth it in the end.

The demo will be out early 2009, maybe late January or mid-Feb

EDIT: Okay, been working on it alot recently. Demo is around 80-90% completion. Expect it mid feb to early march. :)

Yep. I didnt have time to do it yesterday.

Added some features to the list on the first page, mainly the compass and quest book (log). They may not be in the demo, though. It'll take some time to script and get graphics, and besides, I can't give away all the features in a demo, can I? :)

Edit: Hmm... the compass may not be in it after all. We'll see.

I guess. Still might wait until the next demo or something though. Need to leave something for the future, yeah? :)

I made a new title screen. Much better than the old one. Added some stuff to the HUD. Umm... made the log. Fixed some quests and some maps.

Bad news hellblade. There's a wee bit o' lag. :) Too many lights.

Reduce the flashing. It decreases the lag quite a bit.

You don't need that many lights. Just one or two freaking big ones at the areas you want.

If by wee bit you don't mean response every two minutes, it shouldn't affect the game ratings very much.

More like a minute and a half... ;) Just kidding. Its mainly if you have the flashlight on and are entering a place like the Gas station, or the Police station.

EDIT: I seem to have ridden the demo of alot of lag, but there is still a bit left... could hvae something to do with all the timers in the HUd, or alot of characters, or lights, or all of the above...

UPDATE:

Log and Compass are not in the demo. Still working out the kinks. In total, there are 4 rather short side quests, a few main quests and a few weapons and important NPCs. Currently, the only sounds/music in the game are the pistol sounds and a little girl laugh which was only a filler. I'm looking for a better one, as well as music. Music is hard to find because i cant find anything that doesn't have singing, which I would prefer... Bah.

Would you guys rather a demo with or without sound effects and music?

Bad news.

Remember when I had to stop working on Welcome to Zombie Mansion because the files were wiped? ITs happened again. Except this time, some hard drive cleaner wiped all DATA.1st files from my hard drives. All my projects are unbable to open. I'm going to try one last thing, but if it doesn't work, I really don't want to start from the start on this again.

We'll see what happens. :(

Oh, yeah, .1st is used for "README.1st" type applications back from the DOS days of things. I should use a different name.

But yeah, the only things they have are system scripts, party information and things like that.

Just grab the DATA.1st from the Sample project on a new install, and you shouldn't be in too bad of shape.

I can't seem to find it. All I can find is the DATA.INI or Intro.1st, but no DATA.1st, yet somehow all new projects work... I can't even find it in the Template Folder in the install location.
