The Runner & RPGking Game Contest: The Lab WINS!

Postby RPGking » Sun Feb 07, 2010 9:46 pm

The Runner and myself have come up with a contest where we will pit one anothers game making skills and creativity against each other. We each have one game that we will be making, each is a platformer. Each uses similar graphical styles throughout.

Runner: THE LAB
Plot:
_+ 21/23/43 +_
- We have all lost hope for our friend James, It is only me and christina left.
Those demons had no problem tearing his limbs off, Im afraid of who they will kill next.
We dont have much time untill the end of the day, and when night hits . . . Who knows
I might be next.

_+27/23/43+_
-Its been six days since the last message, Its just me now.
I dont see myself living 10 years from now, I dont see myself
living for 10 days, I watched christina get torn apart, and eaten alive.
For some odd reason, It made me hungry . . . Maybe it has something
to do with that bite I got last night.

_+43/23/43+_
-I ate him . . . Then his son . . . I feel powerful.
I cant stop now . . .

It now the year TR46.
The planet has been in horrible shape, the tree of damn is dying slowly.
They knew it was coming, but now they have no choice.
They have no choice but to look to someone for help, nobody knows who
this "Hero" is going to be, but they hope they will find him soon.
For we all know that the end is near.

Lance . . . Lance Garder, He is the only hope for our planets existence.
Lance, the deal is simple, you go into that lab, kill everything inside, retrieve the
canister of water, and come out. Got it? Good.

We needed the water to start planting trees, our current liquid supply is green slush.
We quickly got used to the slush, and now it is like drinking water, it is as healthy as
water, but the downside is, it cant be used to plant trees.
Thats why we hired a top of the line mercenary, named Lance Garder, to move into
the WHL (Worlds H20 Lab) and destroy everything inside, and bring us the water.

Why, you may be asking, would we want to destroy everything inside?
Because 3 years ago, a mad scientist named Zego, was bitten by a demon.
He left us messages on his last words, wich were disturbing . . .
He seems to have locked himself into the lab with the canister of water,
dont be fooled by his looks, or his intelligence, for he is a demon like no other.

A powerful, powerful demon.

RPGking: CRIME
Plot:
The dark and decrepid city holds many stories, stories of murder, deciet, betrayal. But this story will
shake the already rotting city to its core... Mickey and his brother haven't seen each other in 15 years...
A night out on the city for Mickey and that will all change. After a violent bar fight, police arrive, Mickey tries to escape, and he is shot by police. A certain officer, his brother. Mickey, awe-struck at his misfortune, escapes from jail, his brother is now hot on his heels. The two now are faced with the reality, that only one can prevail.

Graphics:
Similar to The Lab, and with Runners permission I am able to use this style to decorate my game.

Map Design and Open-Ended Story:
There are 3 parts to the city with the exeption of 3 boss levels after each part. Each level has a host of different and memorable locals such as Bars, Sewers, Apartments, even a Skyscraper Complex.
The story is open ended as well meaning it can be tackled in different ways.

This is our contest, these are our games, feel free to post comments, suggestions, and bets.

Screenshots:
Runner will post some shortly.
I have 1.

Don't know about bets, but the demon game interests me a little more than the crime game... But both sound fun. Also sounds like the demon game will need a much more detailed world mythology, maybe 'structure' is a better word, than the crime one. Keep us all posted.

Almost forgot...I like the graphics a lot that you show in the pic. Even tho its in silhouette, it conveys the scene really well. 8)

I think RPGking has the better graphics, but TheRunner has a better storyline at the moment. It will be hard to decide, that's for sure.

Make it two for Runner. The only thing that may stand a chance against variable attacks would be a combo system.

2-0 Runner's lead.

What made you forfeit? A bit sudden is it not?

And for layers, I mean are you on the correct layer as you position a character into a map, that is, on the same as the wall tiles?
