New Web-Site

Postby Mike » Thu Jun 30, 2011 2:37 am

Updated the main web-site and downloads page. Over time, things will get cleaned up.

Feeling that the yellow text might be phased out :(.

Looks pretty amazing. I think the testimonials will even make more and more users download and try it.

Forum's still black. White is the new black. Or something, I'm told ;).

But other than the white background not being what it used to be, any thoughts?

I agree that the darker background was better, also...

But it kinda looks... Empty... maybe some borders around certain sections and a large border around the whole page might make it look better...

Okay, no more comments about the background color - it's a marketing decision that I don't think affects much of the site - especially since the forum will continue to have the calmer black.

As for the emptiness of the front page, still have to add some things that I don't have yet - and the bottom content is supposed to be back faced with a grey. Keep in mind, the direction was to simplify and focus on new users, while the reset of the site still focused on the community.

What happened to my testimonial? :(

Also, some people (anyone with anything slower than DSL) would have to wait for a LONG time while those pictures loaded. I sure did.

Admitedly those pictures are larger graphics, most people should be on DSL or better. Those who have anything less would expect those images to load a while. Just avoid the front page if you already know what 001 is about already ;).

As for your testimonial, it was fairly short and you didn't provide your name - a name with numbers seems a bit strange, too.

I like the white it makes it look clean, new and kind of pretty umm I know maybe not what you were going for.
Looking at it made me so exited/(proud?) I almost cried *shakes head* way to emotionally invested for something I have next to nothing to do with.

Speaking of which, what happened to 001 ultimate? I noticed that its been taken out of the features checklist that compared the differences between community, ultimate, and subscription.

Felt it was confusing. The "Ultimate features" are now for subscribers only.

Suggestions:

By the Headlines or Updates (underneath the video), I think the statistics should be located beside them on the right. Several times, my eyes keep checking on the other background information like the number of users, games, etc. However, I have to scroll down and look at them there, which feels quite odd, especially since other websites host this general information on the side. I think the Headlines need to be scrolled down a little and the statistic information on the right to begin. The testiments can continue to run below the headlines. Place the logos for facebook, twitter, etc. above the statistics.

OR

Keep the headlines like it is and place the other stuff (statistics, tutorials, and games) in a different location. On the left of the testimonies, the games can be featured. On the right of the testimonies, the statistics can appear. Also, the tutorials won't be a necessary for new users until they download the content, so I say get rid of it. Instead, keep the logos for facebook, twitter, etc or add something else.

I think it would look a bit nicer if the Huge slideshow wasn't covering the entire top of the page. I think it would look better like this:
Idea 1.png

That way they'd see all the possibilities of 001 as well as the screenshot slideshow when they first visit the page and then all the popular games and testimonials would remain as they are now, below the slideshow.

I agree, it looks neater and it would give space underneath for a "Latest News" section or something where the most recent blog entry could be displayed ;).

It's important not to overcrowd the whole front page, so I support 11th Hour's scroll option on the side.

We can have an update status area. This news feed will only announce the title of the news and the date. However, you can click on the box or bullet, and it will redirect you to the full news page. :D

That may require editing the images though, since they'd have to be smaller to accommodate the left portion.

That's better than me, I learned it on my own. Same with CSS.

But other than the positioning, the original maker of the images would need to either edit them for a smaller size or send the psd files or whatever they used to make it so that it can be changed.
