Planetbound

Features:
-RPG Elements, Stats, Physical Traits, and all that good stuff. (Possibly Perks later on)
-Rather Open world.
-Ability to Craft weapons and items through research in game.
-Stuff that is pretty much stock with this, shooting, attempts at multi outcome quests and a story.

Story:
You are alone on a station on a backwater planet somewhere in the galaxy(Sounding Familiar?) One miserable day you get woken up by a message from the base's computer. Something's broke. But strangely it was a Comm Station, bringing down with it the whole network of automation that helps run the base and surrounding area. This damage seems to have increased after an unidentified object crashed into the planet earlier that day.

-I am leaving lots of the player backstory and reason for YOU being there so that you can fill it in with roleplaying.

-This is pretty much one of my first attempts at this kind of game, (I.E. Formula based RPG elements, Story that has a rather unrestricted path but ultimately ends the same way, emphasis on combat using a new targeting and firing control. ETC)

-if you play it and have ANY and I mean ANY problems please tell me.

Well I highlighted the shooting keys under the controls button in the menu, but to restate, Using the Directional buttons you shoot in a specific direction, and using just 0 on the numpad is just regular shoot.

How? Laptops have directional buttons. They also have WASD. How is it not accessible?

Numpad 0 usually has to be done by pressing a special Fn key, and then pressing some weird letter that has the blue 0 written on it.

Really? My laptop doesn't do that at all. My NUMLInk ussually doesn't need to be turned on it ussually on already. Well, the player can still use the Directional buttons. THose are on pretty much all keyboards, otherwise I would put in input customization but it doesn't work.

Really great game so far. I like how you have to go digging for stuff. The only thing I don't like is the visual monotony. The terrain should have more moon rocks and varying shades of ground to make it seem like there are little hills or something. Also the basic grey tile that represents the planet's surface looks like a pattern.

Aside from the visuals, it's a great game. I love how you can build things and scrap things and the interfaces are amazing! You may want to add a small tutorial at the begining just to tell people what buttons to use. Other than that, I think it's swell! The exploration is really cool too. That feature really makes this game unique.

Also, about the Visual thing, I realized yes, it looks bad, I will get right on that.
And I will get on a tutorial Right away.

Quick thing, did you finish the game?
And how was your character specked?

Did you know that a weapon spawns on the table when you start a game? It's by the computer closest to your bed. It's is usually a knife or pistol. And there is a locked cabinet on the end row of the lockers in the factory section of it.

When I go encounter drones, I can't get out the map and go to the world map, even after killing the drones.
When I go to the edge of the map I get this error:
Script Error in Zone: LEave 4

Set 1 to ("|Encounter Zone:Drone")[Char]NonExistent
Error: Character "|Encounter Zone:Drone" is not valid.

Oh and Foody the download IS up now.

Uh I was playing, getting really good. Got the plasma rifle and then was in that place where I was being chased by that thing.
Then It was like a dream or something, when I try leaving that place where I had the nightmare I couldn't.

Maybe a missing zone or something.

Great game though.

NEVERMIND I got out of the room somehow and I guess beat the game?...

Is there gonna be a sequel?!

Definitely one of the best and most original games I've played here. You are a scripting god.

As much as I love the space theme, I am begging you to take the system you created for this game and put it into a different setting. I suggest a post-apocalyptic steampunk setting or a time spanning setting like classic RTS games. Honestly the only real thing that disappointed me was the lack of human interaction.

to be honest, I had the same thoughts, I have several projects underway that take place in different time periods with this engine, one is almost done and takes place in a WW1 and 2 themed jungle shooter.

And you know, I am guilty about the lack of human interaction, that was intentional. I purpososly wanted the player to feel alone, and the little human interaction he got was from either and Ai or from an occasional outpost, or from the end monster.

Ore does not respawn but if you reactivate a mine, then you can use a computer outside the door and it will let you mine with a small probe.

There is no level peak, but all skils cap at around 90%. I still have to figure out how Fallout 1 handles it's level Skill point peak.

In Fallout, things are capped at 250% or so, but since everything has a difficulty modifier, this number doesn't mean your actual chance of accomplishing a certain task (otherwise going over 100% would be pointless).
Some skills have a maximum probability even after the modifiers, like weapon accuracy (capped at 95%). Not sure if this applies for off-battle skills.

Played the game, it was very nice. Enjoyed the custom graphics, sound effects and music. The world map along with random encounters were nicely made too. Your interfaces are very well-done as well, I especially like how you used the typewriter effect for displaying some stats areas.

Hmm maybe a side way to get ores, 'cuz at some point of the game I found myself with no ammo and no ores either. The game ends after the chase in the ship right? Although it was written "The End", it kinda felt like Game Over. :P

Gosh, tried the game. Feels somehow like a rip-off of Fallout 3. That doesn't actually bug me, because I think fallout 3 sucks. The random encounter map seems to be a little strange, I sometimes wanting to dodge bullets but I leave the map. Noticed also 1 thing - If you kill a robot, change map and then go back, the robot can be researched without it being dissapearing = free exp and damage to bots. The ending was pretty lame, altough spooky. I also found out, you don't even have to do anything, you can complete the game by just having high Hack/Repair skill to escape danger - reminds me of fallout 2. Really liked the shooting system. Much better then normal Engine 001 shooting system. I was even able to not use most of all games features and I completed the game. I also found out, there are no melee weapons, altough Fitness says it improves melee damage. There was something more, but couldn't remember. Great game, had fun playing it ;)

I have no problems with games being based-off other games, books or w/e. In fact, nowadays it's pretty hard to come up with a game that is completely unique. Any story or system you may think you're making up was probably already thought of or used before.
If you haven't tried out yet, check out my full game Voyage for Vengeance.
If you did but you're stuck, don't worry, there's a walkthrough available!

For those about to rock, we salute you.

It is actually a rip of of Fallout 1, a PROPER RPG. And in truth there are melee weapons, try specing into strenght and you will get a knife at the begining, and other melee weapons are in the game world. And as for the free XP and Robot damage, well, It should allow that in the encounter map but otherwise yes, bodies stay until researched.

Well, the combat system just made me think it's like Fallout 3, but whatever.

Oh well, I guess I finished the game too fast.

The fact is that, I got a robot body, that doesn't dissapear after research. I can just research it again and again, and again, and again etc. till I get max level and have +10 damage to bots :P Seems like a bug to me.

Is there a new version out? If so, what's the changelog?

Mostly just to get the download back up. I had to fix what the new 001 broke, that means there may be issues with the encounter zones, and environment objects.

The 2nd DLC may be canceled due to these errors.

Why haven't you reported any of the problems? It even says before you upgrade that you should contact us before trying to fix any upgrade problems. This is so the problem can be actually fixed rather than it keep happening to other users.

Well the problem isn't a crash or a script error(at least that's what it seems) All it is that I can't use a change health on a parameter set character in a custom event. The work around is ok, but in the last version it worked.
The other problem is not an error but is the result of homogenizing Environment objects and tilesets. They now appear incorrectly and have wonky issues, the same issues are occuring with the homogenization of Characters, Dynamic objects, Vehciles, and turrets.

Just because it isn't a crash, doesn't mean it can't be a bug.

This is definitely a bug. Someone else reported it, it's fixed for next version.

Jegar wrote:They now appear incorrectly and have wonky issues

I haven't had such a problem reported, it would be great if you did.

Jegar wrote:the same issues are occuring with the homogenization of Characters, Dynamic objects, Vehciles, and turrets.

What issue came from actors? Everything should work as it did, otherwise, it's indeed a "bug" :).

The main issue with Enviroments as Tiles now is that they all get bumped up in the world if you set the X x Y odd, and you have to use the collision diffrently, and the treatment of tiles means that they default to flat, so my characters appear over them or clip into them.

The issue with Actors is that it makes scripts seem to not understand the difference when it matters and not when it doesn't.

Can you send me a bug report with these specific issues outlined and how to reproduce them, so they can be resolved, as games such as VfV and Wolf Hunt have had no such issues, and they use them extensively.

I'm not too familiar with the game, mind PM'ing me details on how to reproduce those problems? Your help will be greatly appreciated. By the way, if it's HP regenerating through the duration option, this has been fixed.

Hp generation through duration wasn't the problem, changing Variables through duration was broken. And in Planetbound, changing HP on characters in a custom event and using a parameter in the name space caused it to fail.
