Portable Apps

Postby RamchuK_Ntertainment » Thu Mar 29, 2012 2:36 pm

Have you ever wished that you could take all your favorite programs and games on the go?

How about with a bonus, lightweight size?

You can!

Thanks to a developer by the name of Portable Apps, all this is possible. Link below:

http://portableapps.com/

Portable Apps is a lightweight portable platform that can be used to organize programs on a flash drive, SD card, or just your computer. It runs off the side of your desktop with an easy click of a button. Nevertheless, you have access to everything from a neatly designed window.

I have found this neat program about a year later after I found Engine001, but since then I have been using this program on all my flash drives. One word for it, it's just "great".

Portable Apps does not limit the use of only the apps from their site. They have a tool which compresses any installer which can then be installed unto your flashdrive. They have games on their site as well, one of them is Assault Cube. So just imagine of having almost anything on your flash drive. You can access all your files from any computer whiout having to worry whether that computer has that program or not.

Check it out, trust me, you won't be sorry. ;)

Hehe, I knew about them too. I once tried out to make 001 into a portable apps installer. It worked, but it was not a real portable app since it still leaves files on the host computer.

Well, true, some programs require a stable base, which isn't always going to be your flash drive, but I know that for Engine001 if you move the "My 001 Games" folder and "001" to the Portable Apps Documents directory, it will work fine. Of course, I'm not sure, but I'll try it.

I use Portable Apps as a repair toolkit. I put programs like Revo Unistaller and other "non-portable" programs on my flash drive, since I repair computers once in a while, I've figured that it's best to use a flash drive for repair tools. For example, I keep BitTorrent on my flash drive, I can download torrents from any computer, without having to install BitTorrent on their computer. Saves time. ;) That includes many other programs that I use, which I don't want to mention.

Yes, it will work fine. However, it leaves registry uhh... bits.

Oh... :? That's because Engine001 writes files to the registry... if Mike remade a portable version, then it wouldn't require a registry entry at all. :)

I don't write to registry! Installer might, but if you copy files manually, there's no registry changes.

It's coming.

Yep. You have to register files in order for 001 to find them. It had a cow opening anything last time I tried it.
