Dungeon Ace is an RPG originally for the RPG Four Digits competition.
You wander around a dungeon looking for items to help you solve puzzles and quests and you travel higher and higher...

WOW. Very impressive, I am astounded now you have me moderately inspired to try something similar if you don't mind?

But indeed very good work.

Cool concept, kinda buggy though.

I couldn't figure out how to use the key, the game seemed to place the key anywhere on my interface when I found it.

Also, if you can't unlock the door and are forced back, the map doesn't take that for account, and lets you create a long, non-existent halway on the map, and move everything over 1 space.

Other than that, it was a cool concept, and I'd like to ask you not to give up on it, as it has great potential.

When the key appears on your screen, click it.
As for the door pushing you back and the map not reading it, I thought I had that fixed but apparently not.
Thanks for the bug report, and for playing it!

I've noticed, Mouse controls never really seem to work on 001 games, unless you made it. (For some reason)
So looks like this is out of my hands, but I'll PM Mike.

I would, but pretty much every item you find works that way, so I'm trying to find sort of an automated "work around" for the problem. I'll post a new Beta with more levels and bug fixes with it. (And a much needed compass)

Is it odd that I played your demo for about 10 seconds before my virus scanner decided to delete your program? Unfortunately that 10 seconds didn't give me much time to do anything.

That's weird.
Does your virus scanner delete all 001 games? :?

Apparently just yours :D I thought the game had hung up or something then next I know I get a message saying your .exe had been deleted by Norton. Really weird. From the 9.3 seconds I got to play, it did remind me of my old Bard's Tale/SSI Gold Box days.

I use to make ASCII versions of these games on my C64. I've also been reading a blog called the CPRG Addict about a guy working his way through every CRPG game ever made (a really fun read if you remember these kinds of games). Because of this I've been really in the mood for some of these old school games. In a age where all games are rendered in 3D, it would be a fun to see if you can successfully bring back that old SSI style on a modern game engine. If anything making this style of game would be a pretty nifty learning exercise. (I use modern loosely since 001 sort of lends itself to the old sprite based games of the '80s and '90s)

I enjoy old-school gaming too.
New games are great, but there's some simplistic charm about those really old games.
Old-school and arcade seem to be sort of a running theme for almost every game I've made.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed your 10 seconds of old-school awesomeness. :D

I hate to go of topic on another game, but if you want to try your hands at old school ASCII RPGs, try using basic C++ and the CMD prompt, I have managed to make a retro RPG based on portal using basic C++ and ASCII art.

Sounds good.
I even thought about doing one like that once, and if I do it I'll try that! :)
