Sprites : 8%
Sound / Music : 9%
NEW Battle System : 80%
HUD : 40%

-FEATURES-
-Party fights .... No more Lone Wolf! (Definitely!)
-Fight Animations! :D
{More features may or may not be added to list later}

So i've started development today! :D
Wish me luck.

Stats.
HP : When this equals 0 you are knocked out. (aka dead)
CP : Used to perform special techniques
MP: Used for Spells and Magic Tech.
Attack : Your Attack skill
Defense : Your Defense Skill
Agility : Affects your dodging.
Speed : Affects how fast your ATB fills up.
Initiative : Your reflexes at the beginning of combat. (Higher # = Higher initial ATB)
Luck : Affects your chance to get a critical hit.

Indeed, take your time laying out the graphical, story and gameplay foundations. For example, incorporating a similar system to Final Fantasy's party and action bar simultaneously, which you mentioned.

In "action bar simultaneously" do you mean the battle still flowing while commands are being put in? I also think i'm on the verge of developing my target system.

Still kinda clashing with the character; consider adding some outlines for your tiles and environmental objects.

Same as MIV, for now the map looks pretty. How about that you go near your opponent when attacking.

He means like in Final Fantasy how they run up(or in the older ones they step forward) and do the attack animation then go back to their spot.

Actually that animation i posted in atachments earlier does that :? (The step foward type )

I have been testing this ... so far if the battles go to a seperate map, it will break the timer from where you saw the enemy on the exploration. So i might have to do a random encounters instead of the previous way. (Cause this game will take you to a seperate map to fight.

Major Progress Today.

-Title HUD set up and ready for release. (But the game isn't)
-Targeting System BREAKTHROUGH. Thanks Ixayou :)
- Idea for Dual Wielding :shock: (Let's see how that goes)


EDIT: After working 5 hours straight i've finished atleaset half the battle system

Posting in games section for you guys to mess around with. DON'T RATE!

Updating 1st post again ;)

EDIT2

UPDATES
-Item System in combat works .... (need to download 1.007.001 to fix Rectangle scroll thing)
-Updated target cursor
-Combo points now function
-Added Mana Stat. (I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of it)
-8 way movement.
-Redid sprites. Now less sucky
-Fixed Facing Direction in combat AND Attack Animation :D
- Added Character Customization for 2nd Party Member.

IDEAS
-Dual Wield. .. (Had a 16 attack animation... but Engine 001 crashed ...so wasn't saved... :'((((( )
-3 Different Skills... (Technique, Magic, and Magic Tech.)
-A third Party Member
-Up to four enemies in combat.
-Add Elements to combat.

The ones in red more then likely WON'T happen..... just brainstorming here.

Glad to hear that you're working on some excellent features; now, just to clarify, what do you mean by 'Add Elements to Combat'? Do you mean certain cool features, or the basic elements as in 'fire, water, earth etc.'

Elements like fire water and earth. :D (hopefully combat will be a little more strategic then)

Actually i had a battle system demo out for 1 day then i took it off. (You probably missed it ;) )
I will post another demo when i atleast get 6 different fights (1 map per fight..... joy -_- )
Plus i've got to animate-
-Jump Strike
-Dual Wielding Attack
-Diagonal Attack Frames

Actually, I propose you also work on the damage formula for skills. Your attacks were good, but the skills in Sphere-O 1 did the same amount of damage to every enemy, regardless of armor or weakness.
Perhaps you can create a formula based on some statistics too.

Nifty little system you have there, I see it resembles Final Fantasy 8's, and theirs is near flawless, so good work.

You may consider making the attack animations use alpha for cool effects like a rush attack so that it looks like your character has a ghosted blur behind them. ;)

Yes this was a weakness to my first game. All Technique Skill's damage is based on the users attack. But magic hasn't been decided yet... (might have to make another stat :roll: )

Well the original death was to grasp his chest and fall to the ground... but i'm working on a new one...
Plus i hoping to get away from the artist plot..... (though right now i have no story)

Thanks :) I have been working insanely on this ( 1-5 hours a day) so hopefully i'll release a battle demo.

UPDATES
-Animated Jump Strike (Still needs to be balanced)
-8 direction battles might be cut (due to non-flashy attack animations when facing down)

TO DO LIST
-Animate Dual Wield
-Create a "Monster/Animal" Sprite
-Critical Hit System
-Dodge System
-Magic System
-Make Battle Scripts simple to copy. (Each battle means a new map)

Love the new graphics, but I still think the maps can be improved... especially that battle map in the building. Maybe you can add some other objects to fill up the 'emptiness' at the top and bottom?

Played the demo. Maybe you could add some overturned chairs or broken things in the background of the tavern battle.

Found a couple bugs:
This appeared at the beginning of the first battle

I got stuck in the door of the Inn and couldn't move.
There was a battle with two thieves in which I immediately won without even taking a turn.
There was a battle with the turtles where my character was dead and he somehow got revived and hit the turtles right after I took a turn.

Well that's the shop.... and it does need improving.... I only have 8 tiles or something... so the graphics still need ALOT of work.

Ok the 1st bug can't be helped... It's just the variables can't be set faster then the Battle System... but i consider that a cosmetic bug... (I'll try to get rid of it eventually)

2nd, i'll probably just delete those doors ;)
3rd, i don't know what causes this.... (Will need to investigate)
4th... i don't understand this... do you mean the enemy hit you after he died?... cause this happens to me sometimes.

But otherwise do you think everythings ok? :lol:

I believe the turtle knight battle may have triggered the last two errors I reported. Before that the battle script was flawless. Either that or the other thing that was different was that one of my characters was killed for several battles.

Well i'm just using the default inn script so i'm not sure.
In the next release i'll make a script where you will revive with 1% of your health if your still K.O. after the fight is over.

your partner could revive you
specially if the fight just started.

demo 0.1 is glitchy.

Fixed Battle System
-Doesn't break after turtle knight fight. (Actually it was all the other battles that were messed up)

I've been taking a break.
But i'm still working the game on and off.

You can run around while waiting for your turn. Enemies attack dead characters. If a technique fails you lose health and you get back you turn. When your characters are dead, press enter and wait for your turn, You will still be able to fight. all other errors have already been posted.

Actually, given the battle mechanism, you might want to check the scripting again. Try to be a little more observant to 'which variable does what'.

walk in fight = FIXED
technique fail = It's supposed to do that.
enemy attack dead= Fixed shortly
i don't understand the last one.

Hey who wants to see a screenshot of the battle script nodes?

UPDATES
-Took doors away from INN
-Added slashing effects to player's attack (enemy may be done shortly)
-Added 1st status ailment!!! (I'm excited because it works great!) Poison.
-Added Pheonix tears (revive) and Antidote (self explanatory)
-Most fights fixed. (Some are still glitchy)

Not many updates. this week.
But spring break coming up.
So maybe i'll get to work alot on Sphere-O 2
Who knows, maybe demo 0.2 will be up soon.
I hate school. hahaha

OK, explaining the last thingy. Your party dies - the game over screen appears, press enter and wait for your turn. After like 5 second the menu will appear. If you select attack you may still kill someone. Its hard to explain, much easier to show on a video but I don't know how to make a video :/

The next version of 001 is out already, if that's what you're asking.
Game mechanism is good, but try to test out every possibility for bugs. Will take some time, but it's worth it if you want your game relatively bug-free.

So i'll add on more dialogue to that.
The "rough draft" of the beginning of the story is in the game description.

But i end up bugging the whole system. (Actually that's a custom event not a timer, but it's just as long :? )

The bug is that when you use the double slash skill you do a jump strike (sometimes)
OR you will attack twice but do only one total number of damage.
(I think i know a way around it though)

Ok.... i guess i'll animate the monsters lol... :-P
(Just means the next release will take a little longer to come out.)

Well i want the attack to decrease the HP twice.
So the skill will actually be useful if fighting an enemy that dodges alot.
I don't know.... we'll just have to see how this turns out.

Well, the setting is your just an ordinary person who owned a general store. And during your "final closing" an assassin comes to kill you. Sut sphere-o was lucky enough to be there. now you must figure out why someone wants you dead and stop him before he suceeds.

Sadly Guys.

Sphere-O 2 has been permanently halted due to:
Game Folder Getting Deleted.
Loss of interest.
No progress in 2 months.

I'll leave the demo up for about a month or two then i will erase it.

Let that be a lesson to me not to take on a super complex game on my own.

Well the game is glitchy slightly....
(rez item doesn't work inside combat)
(fleeing freezes the game)

But if you really want me to leave it up i will :?
Did you ever get to try it out?
I know i told you a while back to wait for the next release ... but THAT'S never going to happen :-P

Yeah I tried it out. It was pretty good, but yeah ... a bit glitchy in places.
Who should I really listen to?

Yeah making a TBB with more than one character leads to a ton of glitches i guess.
