The Slime Beasts (Christmas) and it's predecessor!!

Postby Oisin_Successfullo » Fri Jun 19, 2009 5:07 pm

I have completed 2 pacman-like games ages ago and they are ready to upload.
HOWEVER should I add downloadable content compatibility(AMC DLC) to The Slime Beasts (Christmas) to show how AMC DLC works?

Why can't you just explain it?
Only way I can think of is print screen.

Okay I MSNed Gustave, the features organiser, and he says that the best thing is to wait and see.
He doesn't like explaining but don't worry when I find more out about the mysterious ''AMC DLC Pack'' I'll try and explain...

Salutations my fellow 001 users. Appleton here and I am incharge of Eagletainment and work with AMC Gamez.
The AMC DLC Package that fellow colleague and boss of AMC Gamez, Mr. McCarthy, spoke of is; from what I can garner a group of DLC Keys awarded after each mission/level/etc.
Then when somebody downloads DLC they need to enter the DLC Key on a DLC Screen.
There are a bit more technicalities involved but I believe that's the general basis; simple while effective!

So it's not actually downloadable content, you're just charging players (with only ten easy payments of $9.99 in total!) to be able to play all of the game.

I dunno much about AMC DLC but I do know that the downloads are all-new content to be updated weekly. Everything from new characters to new levels to new minigames.

No, it's not. The only way to add onto a 001 game is to completely replace the data files, and your saves won't work then. He's either doing that, or making people use a bunch of passwords for no real reason.

I texted Gustave and he says it basically is a bunch of passwords (DLC Keys) but that he'll be making it as easy as possible.
He says it would be better if Mike put a ''proper'' downloads feature in Engine001 but we just have to make use of what we have.
The AMC DLC team (Gustave DeGama and Jonathon Skylark) will only allow top quality downloads.
Mr. Skylark will soon write a tutorial and I'll put it online.

I still don't like the way you keep everything so mysterious, and seriously, these 'mere passwords' better be just simple code... not messing around with data or something.

I won't question for any other unreleased detail, but do tell how the password system works.
If you say it is a secret, I can and will assume it is a breach of 001's copyright laws, and I also will assume you are making intentional modifications to the program for mere password systems (based on the given description).

Yeah. 001 doesn't have a key gen so everyone has the same password or whatever. Might as well just post the wallpapers or whatever on a website.

They did. They put up a key after each game, then you download their program and type in the key.

I finally found out EXACTLY how it works.
It's not really that complicated.
Just passwords (DLC Keys) after each level.
Type it in and you get all your data back!!!
Simple...I think.
Jonathon Skylark is writing a tutorial so I can put it on the site.
Then we will know exactly what happens!!

The whole reason the games section was made, was to prevent people from hosting potentially dangerous files on other servers. The whole point of the uploading mechanism that only allows the data.1rc to be uploaded, was to prevent viruses within uploaded games.

Making a crappy game just to link to a site to get a reasonable game through keys is ridiculous. I'm going to have to ask you to stop trying to find ways of promoting your company and web-site indirectly, or all your user accounts will be banned. This non-sense and silliness has to stop, now.

I do not want anymore PMs asking about loopholes to promote your site. This is it. Make games, have fun, stop making things complicating and annoying for everyone including our staff, which develops this project for no money at all.

Firstly Oisin is only the name of one of our characters in Teamo Successfull; the leader of AMC Gamez is actually called Aaron McCarthy (hence the company title).
Secondly when Mike says the AMC DLC service is just to promote our website he's presumably referring to the questions Aaron and I sent him in relation to write2play.
However AMC DLC is not intended to promote our site.
All of AMC DLC can be implemented using a unsubscription version of 001. There's no tricks; Engine001 has the capabilities.
We thought that AMC DLC would be a fun, user-friendly, way of keeping our titles new and fresh.
I know that all our team would agree when I say we never wanted to spark an argument.
We want to make the most out of 001 and thus have AMC DLC.

On-topic: The Slime Beasts games are coming out tommorrow but will not support AMC DLC.
Then on Tuesday, The Slime Beasts Incomparable will launch alongside AMC DLC.

Mike said we were permitted to host OUR games on OUR sites.
That's why we have the website thing on the start-up menu.
The game only uses Engine001 scripting and nobody else can host on the website for the DLC.

Games section doesn't allow outside links, nor can you just advertise your website through P.M. He just said that we have the game uploads to prevent viruses.

Unfortunately you must have misinterpreted the point I was hoping to pursue.
On engine001.com we do not link to alternate URLs but in the start-up menu we do.
Why are you so caught up in this anyhow?

I don't think you understood my point, if you're hosting you games on your own website you can't link it in the games section as noted -

And what do you mean why am I so caught up in this? I'm a mod - It's my job to make sure people follow the rules and everything is alright.

Anyway, don't want to start a forum flame war with the AMC people, lets just get on topic.

The point is, my hacker wannabes, you CAN make an enjoyable game without passwords. I am aware that your gamemaking is somewhat substandard, but as long as you remove the password, and actually get back on track with the actual game making, updating any lacking parts and removing any bugs, I can't see why you can't make a successful game and promote a company normally.
Come on, you don't need passwords and external links to show that you're popular (as a matter of fact, it makes you notorious).

I would like to correct a few of the above statements.
To get the ball rolling my colleagues and I are not a bunch of ''hacker wannabes''.
We are aware that you CAN make an enjoyable game without passwords.
You say you are aware that our gamemaking is ''somewhat substandard'' but how can you be aware of this if we have never uploaded a game to Engine001.
Thanks to Aaron's probation I am the leader for now and will focus our company on just two games at a time.
More details on both Teamo Successfullo and The Slime Beasts 3D will be available soon.
Thank you.

We at AMC Gamez are delighted to announce that AMC DLC will be incorporated into The Slime Beasts Incomparable which should be complete within the next two days.
The game is alsos set to have our best graphics yet but we have taken a new tact (under the request of x-leader Aaron McCarthy).
Now instead of the Slime Beasts chasing us they just walk around randomly.
Time will tell whether or not this was a wise move.

Sorry, but I think your taking to much pride in your game.
You have about 3 custom items.
You need to add many more customs, add more movement to your creatures, and put it all together carefully.

Screenshots, mate. RBL showed how your items wouldn't cut it. Also, the plots mentioned... really, I don't mind if you make modifications prior to the game release, but if you don't update us on that, we'll just get this info from your release info.

albertappleton wrote:The game is alsos set to have our best graphics yet but we have taken a new tact (under the request of x-leader Aaron McCarthy).

Best? BEST? 3 custom graphics to me is BAD enough, so if you're aspiring to get your best, frankly, add a lot more customs, and if you really aren't a good artist, no worries. Have someone make them for you or download them from the resource section. We don't mind seeing someone else's graphics provided they make your game look loads better.

AznaThira wrote:Sorry, but I think your taking to much pride in your game.

Indeed, this is pretty much your first try, and just becuase you work in a team, doesn't mean your game will definitely top others who do it individually. It's all a matter of practice making perfect, so you're still going to have to work a bit to make that little bit perfected.
And no, don't argue with me that the team is doing better than I expect, if you do have some graphic updates, post new screenshots.

The game is alsos set to have our best graphics yet but we have taken a new tact (under the request of x-leader Aaron McCarthy).
Now instead of the Slime Beasts chasing us they just walk around randomly.
Time will tell whether or not this was a wise move.

Sorry to be rude here but your profile tells you r a teenager, but you talk like you run some kind of company.
To me it sounds like your trying to sound smart and very well admired.
But you just started using thes system and no one knows who you are, sorry but it sounds kinda wannabe.
Just try to talk normal, not like you are a famous game designer.

Believe me, from what I see, you are staggeringly far from being a famous game designer. This is a forum, mild casuality can be tolerated...
Like I said, if you do have any graphic updates, post them here.

I think at least a capture of the title screen, even if it's a mock up, would be helpful. Something tangible, you know?

Also, I notice that the very first post on this topic was never properly addressed, so, to the benefit of the topic I add this:
Oisin_Successfullo wrote:I have completed 2 pacman-like games ages ago and they are ready to upload.
HOWEVER should I add downloadable content compatibility(AMC DLC) to The Slime Beasts (Christmas) to show how AMC DLC works?

No.

Still think in-game graphics would be more appropriate. Title screens don't always show how good the game's graphics are, ya know.

I found this quote when I was looking at Web Of Trust.com's page on AMC Games

"Subscribed to this link several years ago before I rid myself of television. I have been trying to unsubscribe for months and their unsubscribe link does not work. Beware!!"

All the more reason why we shouldn't have to go on their site to be able to play the full game.

Oh, really. I don't care if you want more people to subscribe. Anything made with the 001 Action/RPG Game Maker will not, I repeat, WILL NOT be hosted on an external website. Simple, host it here, Mike won't come after you, we won't flame you, and instead enjoy the game (if there's anything to enjoy, I doubt it from your graphics, though).

Then again, true, but they do have a website, and the visuals are... pardon my trolliness, very badly done. Search for their freewebs website.
Indeed, they have made that game before, but given their adamant nature, I doubt there will be changes. Here's a screenshot.

Seriously. It's not real DLC, it's just a key system that we use on a crummy program you wrote which will probably give us viruses. Why don't you just include it all in the same game and host it in the games section?

And don't be so cocky! Even I, who has been around this forum for some time, don't ever make rash remarks saying that my game is so good. You act like some professional businessman who owns a company, and you're really some little kid who makes horrible games. Why don't you just work on the graphics, act like the child you are, and make a regular game!

I even remember making a topic on this kind of stuff a while back.

Agreed. And for my part I don't want you, Oisin, or anyone to stop making games or feel alienated. Everyone with AMC just has all this creative energy and I guess I just really want to see it aimed in a positive direction. Ok, enough. I'm back on topic. ;)

How in God's name did you stumble across the old Eagletainment System website? I thought we hadn't listed it in Google/Yahoo!/etc.?!
Regarding the query relating to the doubt of an update all at AMC Gamez believe that our past projects were useless; then again we had a useless leader.
With me taking Aaron's throne permanently things will change...but we won't update any old games.
Currently we are too busy with Teamo Successfullo and I have a novel to launch.
But where did you locate that website?

AMC Gamez are focusing centrally on both The Slime Beasts (a new one but we haven't confirmed a title AND it will include AMC DLC) but mainly Teamo Successfullo which will be HUGE and probably take 2 years to create...it will be the first game I led!
I can't gurantee excellent graphics but the game should be a masterpiece.

I, for one, never could really grasp the idea of why people would want DLC.
Alas a motion was passed a few minutes ago over AMC Discussionz and the majority of the team want it.
Therefore it will be a regular Slime Beasts feature and, possibly, the AMC Family Range!!!
Nevertheless I have determined that it will not appear in Teamo Successfullo.

ALOT of changes...

I just played through the game (idk why) and I saw there was no action or any real sence of enjoyment.
You need to do alot of work, start by making better customs and make the bosses fun and challenging to fight.
And dont bop off of Mario, dont say you didnt....

What? No AMC title is on 001 so how did you play it?

But you're right in Branchman and the Slime Beasts, which I had no involvement in (joining later), there is no real action and, by Aaron's own admission, Gobloon trapping the Duchess is a common plot.
It's in every Ninty game from Mario to Zelda!

First of all, before you read this post, go search for Nocturne Opening 1 on Youtube. Those musics are absolutely essential to this post's drama.

Gentlemen, I am now convinced that we are dealing with a mastermind here. We are being messed and toyed with. The DLC is not real, and neither are these games, they are all just elaborate jokes.

In my expert opinion and research of this "fictional" company, these games are made out to be real, with references from back in 2007, however, there has been an over-effort in the advertising of these "amateur" games, hence why there are millions of links for AMC Gamez and Eagle Studios all over Google, which are all just a bunch of empty websites, which give a descriptive history of the so-called successful company which haven't uploaded any games yet.
They aren't spies, they are just kids who want a bit of attention in something way too big for their imaginations.

That's it. I'm mad.
Masterpiece? You can't guarantee excellent graphics, but if you can't reproduce your scripts, I can barely call that rubbish you drew a masterpiece. If you really want to get anywhere near a 5.0-6.0 rating, I strongly suggest you either get someone who can do decent graphics, develop a good plot, or just fade into inexistence. I don't care if you want people to download your games using a DLC. It's not working here.

albertappleton wrote:But you're right in Branchman and the Slime Beasts, which I had no involvement in (joining later), there is no real action and, by Aaron's own admission, Gobloon trapping the Duchess is a common plot.
It's in every Ninty game from Mario to Zelda!

Which is why we do not encourage people to make their games using this plot. But at least, Zelda had plot developments, and after Mario, THOUSANDS of games were based off these plots. Back then, that plot was originality. Now, it's either downright plagiarism or crap.
And if he's right, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I know you won't take the blame for making that game, but if you're that committed into it, you better buck up.

Stephen Chapman wrote:They aren't spies, they are just kids who want a bit of attention in something way too big for their imaginations.

In case you have noticed, you intend for people to download your failure of a game off a download client linked to your website. Well, excuse me for this, but in case you people have not read, absolutely no 001 game can be hosted off-site, apart from the bona-fide 001 website. Your DLC is of absolutely no use here, and while we talk about the flaws of your game, rather than working on it and posting updates, you come up with unsupported justifications that you will promise 'a masterpiece'.
As much as I think Stephen is being plain rude to you, I have to agree. Either post some real updates, or shut up.

Anyway, I'm probably not going to play any AMC GAME"Z" unless you drop them all. Just create a new one, with a decent plot, good maps, decent graphics.

I just played Branchman, and I must say, I feel like making a review for it.

Okay, we'll start off with a perfect 10/10 rating and go down from there.

The game's launcher. The developer has seen the need to disable all options, forcing the player into 640 by 480 fullscreen for no real reason. -10

When I get in the game, I see a giant head with broken animations and an intro text with very poor spelling -3 (Each of those combined)

All of the items are unusable, one of them is essential to the game. -4

The music is made up of ear harmingly low quality MIDIs. -1

So, my final score is: -8/10

...

Oh, and memo to self: Tell Mike to stop developers from being able to disable video options in their games.

From playing this game, I rate it 1.

Reasons for this include:
-No custom-made resources, apart from Branchman's head
-No challenge (was easily able to jump over the Slime Beasts)
-Branchman has two heads when walking down and to the left and right.

I could go on and on, but I want to save some for MIV ;)

I downloaded and played today. I don't like to say a bad word against anyone, but this game was a bit... poor in quality.

I like the idea that is there, and the nice attempt at a few customs, but it indeed needs alot of work.

Sorry.

Now, on to the game, with some criticism...
I agree, the resolution is terrible. It's very difficult to play it on fullscreen, so set a windowed option.
Your custom has two freaking heads that disappear alternatively, and looks very distractive. It clashes heavily with the bg, and the animation is not that good...
Your bg is very badly done, with minimal objects that make sense, and the item and game graphics clash with the game. Besides, what's the point of the items if they don't even work.
In any case, I don't recommend placing items on the floor like that because they respawn (which most games don't intend).
You have spelling errors, sorry to say, and plenty of that.
I have nothing to say about the music, yes, it's low quality MIDI, but that's not the biggest issue at the moment.
You claim it is 'fun, fun, fun'. But frankly, if you don't work on those stuff, you might end up with a game that not many like...
As to what rating I gave it, I didn't even bother... there wasn't a -1 rating there.

Seriously, even for a first draft, that doesn't assure me that you can make a 'masterpiece'.

Indeed. I am aware that you are making improvements, but don't rush the production unnecessarily. Hope to see a better draft, and for god's sake no DLC.

Played it. Spent like 20 minutes of my life download this 5 MB game. *sigh*
It was really pointless and wasn't fun. Irritating if anything.

Okay, heres my dilemma, I'm sorry if I'm just dropping in, but this title in the forums held intrigue, until i read all of the posts and the description. Now, I'm going to download your game (no idea why according to these posts)... and give it a review of my own, I'll try (again according to these posts) to find something positive about it because deep down, i feel a little bit sorry for all the flaming. ;)

I don't. Regrettably, I can't find much good about the game, as a matter of fact I can't find anything good at all.
Here's what you need to do (for starters):
Work on the background. Make it more vivid with your own custom objects or sprite tiles
Check your customs, and work on more enemy customs. Your smiley is badly done.
Remove the items on the floor, because they respawn. If necessary, substitute it with an object/tileset and a zone.
Work on the display. It's not good with fullscreen. Set a windowed option.
    Get better music.
    Work on the spelling/HUD.

Okay, maybe it can be salvaged given a lot of work and commitment into the project. I'm not saying it's entirely hopeless unless you really can't be bothered to make changes, rather it can be a little better with all these changes put into place.
You can always post more updates on changes and stuff, but since you have an alleged 'company policy', I won't bother you too much on that anymore. I just expect the next version to be better (at least half of that implemented).

Look, you need more colorful sprites, tilesets and whatnot, shadinging will make this 50% better than it is now.

Agreed. And for my part I don't want you, Oisin, or anyone to stop making games or feel alienated. Everyone with AMC just has all this creative energy and I guess I just really want to see it aimed in a positive direction. Ok, enough. I'm back on topic. ;)

Don't flame guys. It's really disrespectful.

How was coffeennicotine flaming?
I am bacon.

Fry me in grease and put me on a plate covered in paper towels when you're ready to serve.
