[SOLVED] Map001 crashes in VM: QEMU or VBox; 7, 8.1, 10

I've been banging my head on this for a bit, and I'm no further than when I started. When running 001 in a Windows virtual machine via either Virtualbox or QEMU on Ubuntu 16.10, it immediately crashes without starting. This happens in Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 (64-bit) on two completely different machines (one Intel, one AMD).

The crash is as follows, I'm happy to find any information you want:

Code: Select all
Faulting application name: Map001.exe, version: 1.17.0.14, time stamp: 0x58653853
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Looks like a memory access violation... makes no sense to me.

EDIT:
Woohoo!

I was able to get 001 Game Creator working in Virtualbox on Windows 7. Here's what you need to do:

1. Install Windows 7 in Virtualbox, fully update it (see below). I gave my VM 30GB of storage and 4GB RAM.
2. Go into the VM settings, video. Turn on 3D and 2D acceleration and crank the VRAM to 256mb or more
3. Install the Virtualbox Guest Additions in the guest. Select "Direct3D support" and answer "No" to the prompt.
4. Install 001.

Why Windows 7? Because Windows 7 has the update rollup that you can download to reduce the initial Windows Update download that you'll need.
