Ghost Ship

This game is going to be the scariest 001 game ever, its about a guy who gets banned from the military and finds a distress signal. He feels its his duty to help even though he is no londer an soldier, he finds a ship nearly compleatly sheard in half. When he goes inside he find that every one has been gruesomely murdererd. But the worst part is most of them been infected by an alien race called the Maelstorm. And now the hero has unknowingly put himself in the middle of a war between life and death...(Try my demo!!!)

You build the game as plain files in 001, go to your game's edit page on the site, click browse, go to the folder where you built the game to and select "Data.1rc" and click ok, then click "Upload"

Yeah it is kind of hard but it works for me. Its nice to take a break from the big confusing projects every once and awile. :)

I made custom Alien zombies with tentacles and blood and other freaky stuff, plus I have zombie moans, creepy howling, custom effects, awsome lighting, music from games like Dead Space and other freaky games, so yeah, I do have every thing to make a scary game. :D It even freaked me out a couple of times!

Dude this is total awesomeness. There was a map which I couldn't see anything at all, but the demo was great.
Your cutscenes are very good, the blood and shooting effects, SFX, music, tileset, everything was awesome. The story was very confusing, but I think it was supposed to be like that heh.
Now a few hints: you should put ONCE branches on the maps, so that you don't get the same cutscene twice, and you can't use the shine ring when you first find it in a room with a headless guy. You can only use it when you find it a second time in the map with a lot of those small creatures that can be killed by jumping over them.
Also you can't see anything in some maps, you should add lighting or light the sun.

I know its pretty dark but Im lighting up some of the newer maps.


(please rate demo!)


Im also going to put a minigame called "Fight to Fall" or "Last Stand" were you are given a small part of the ship to fight in, and you will be bombarded by Maelstorm until you finally die. That would be cool. I'll add a minigame thingy on the main menu. They will be games you can play over and over again ;)

As for that, it was there as a test, so no problem there.


And Ive got to ask you, did you read the logs on those flashing blueish screens, because there pretty cool.(they also give you hints)

As much as I want to like this game, all I can think of are criticisms. So let's put those into dot points, shall we?

. I find it very, no, near impossible to take any game where your average argument involves people yelling out multitudes of exclamation marks at each other seriously.

. Making the maps too dark to see in doesn't make the game scarier, it only ensures that you never leave the second map.

Those criticisms and more if I get past the second map!

The second map was a pain for me too. The first one lags like hell because of the light effects.
The logs were pretty good, but you should write better, because reading a whole log like this: "they new i was thre blod evrywere my friends all slghtred.. etc" is really hard and sucks. I got dismotivated to read most logs because of that. The story was a bit confusing. :?

And by the way, this game is actually very scary.

Of course its dark, thats basiclyy the point, and in the first map he says to look for some source of information, the TV in the second map.All you need to do is walk forward. As for the storymode, think about it. You were in the military and you ended up killing an innecont man, so your captain fires you. Not to complicated. As for the logs, they have Maelstorm quotes, so thats alot of weird alien zombies talking, so its strange.

All you do is walk forward, but I couldn't even see my character, if I recall.

I also really wanted to like this game. And I thought I wrote something about it yesterday, but I guess I forgot. Anyway, all you gotta do is not assume everyone knows what you're thinking, and just clean it up a bit. Seriously, you have the possibility of something quite incredible here. All you need is a few hours of polish to make it amazing.

Later in the game you get a light so, thats ok. And I'm trying to make it more understandable. I started this game a REALLY long time ago, which is probably the reason its a bit messed up, but Im working on it.

I never said the storyline was complicated, I said it was STUPID.

You're saying that you intended for it to be impossible to see anything without greatly increasing your brightness settings (which isn't very easy on this laptop)?

Dude, quit talking crap about my game. I barely even work on Ghost Ship anyway. And I havent seen any games from you yet, so until you can make a good, scary, game, then you can't say anything. I mean seriously, come on, you don't have room to talk :roll:

I played it. I think the maps are too dark, I had to change my monitors brightness to 100 to be able to atleast partially see where I can go. Not being able to see does not make this game scary, it's more frustrating trying to find out where to go.

The music, SFX, tiles, blood and shooting effects were good but what lets the game down is the fact you cannot see, even with my brightness on full, in the second map I couldn't see my character until i'm almost at the end.

When I picked up the second light thing (sorry, for got whats it's called) i tried to equip it, then it kept showing message boxes of the main guy saying "i better leave it on" so I could not continue as eveytime I closed the message box, it reappeared!

This game could be made well and it could be scary. To make it scary, you need lighting to be able to see.
Make use of the Play sound at location, I do not think you did but if you have noises coming from different places it can change the atmostphere of the game, and get people scared, for example if you have breathing comimg from somewhere \ following a character, and it sounds close, please will expect something so they will be on the look out.

I wanted it to be dark in the opening maps, that way you need to find the Shine Ring, but I like the sound idea.

for the opening maps, instead of the world colour being pure black, make it a dark gray - light enough to see the character / where you can go but dark enough that it doesn't give it all away. Then the maps after where the Shine Ring can be found, the maps can be pure black so you have to use it / find it.

yeah, having sounds would add alot to the game and take it to the next level

ah yeah, the game looks fine, predator king that suprises me I never thought youd be the type. Insulting people is not oly rude but, will drive away new comers. People are just posting what their workig on I dont believe this section said be a critic. ;) And AznaThira keep workin man, just improve a few things if you want. :)

So, any good ideas? The best thing could be any ideas for more interactive monster battles. Like the little guys you stomp on, but like I said, 5 hour of that you might just pass out in front of your computer bleeding bordom out you eyes. :)

yeah zombies are good, use a shotgun and a .357 magnum, thatll take care of them. :)

Yeah, Im going to add some REALLY big guns, but again, what should I be killing with those guns? I mean, its really easy to make weapons. But making creatures is alot harder, especialy with them having to be scary, that means making lots of frames so that they dont click all over the place and look dumb. So I want to make sure they are good designs therefore Im not wasting my time, so if you have a good idea, tell me, or make a picture and show me.

well adding to dark maps, creatures that slither are always scary so you could add, slithering creatures, a puddle maybe that looks like a puddle but sucks the players blood, and to scare the hell out of someone like me, make a ordinary room with light but, make a dark charactor speed across the room and have a dark silouet in the room with black eyes. ;)

I love the idea of puddly things, Haha I said puddly :D , and the quick thing sound freaky, I could implement that with a creature I was thinking of making, I wanted to call it a sentinal, I could make them travel in placks and laugh eerily like a hienah! That would be awsome. :lol: :lol:

:lol: , yeah that would be. Make the laugh sound very chilling. :) Oh and things comming out of the walls would be scary. When the player enters a tunel whispers will give the game a creepy feeling, also make a zone in front of a door and when the player gets close to it, it can make a scary screechig noise. :)

You can always get the sounds from games you own, although for a lot of them you'll need to look around for a tool that can open their files (for example, GCFScape for Source Engine games)

On another subject, can someone send me a saved game of the map where it stops being so dark? I would like to be able to see what the rest of the game looks like.
I am bacon.

Fry me in grease and put me on a plate covered in paper towels when you're ready to serve.

I loved it, scared me. :) 2 suggestions
instead of the sargent saying your fired, you should make him say, yove been diss honorbly discharged, because thats what they say in the military.. :) And the map with the light was easy to navigate in cool, now the second map is too dark making it unplayable. You have to make a source of light, even if its grey or flickers. :D Other than that awseome. Ill rate it when its out. ;)

Well, lights would change the feel way to much.... BUT!!! I could make the fog in the levels denser so it contrasts more physical features. :D

Predator King is not complaining in that post, he asked if someone can give him a save game from after map 2 where you cannot see a thing so he can play the rest of the game and see what it is like.

You should learn from complaints and make the game better by reading and taking in the complaints, it will then stop the complaints as there would be nothing to complain about (generally speaking, people may still have things to complain about that have not been said before) ;)

Predator King has been rather rude about it, Ammohead was calmer. And either way, I will take certain complaints, but not about lighting. And why wouldnt it be dark, didnt you notice in the beginning that the ship was torn in half? Not much would work after that. So with most lights off, its realistic.

basically everyone who played the game / posted about it said it was too dark. I even gave you a suggestion on how to make it so we can see without losing the effect of semi-darkness.
You cannot just take certain complaints, you either have to take 'em all, or not take any (by not making anything people can complain about (as in, not make a game)) The world is not a nice place, people are not nice (well, you know, they can be but you know....) you cannot just 'take certain complaints' that's like Mike not reading the Bug Reporting forum, or having no where to post bugs (Posting about bugs is kind of a complaint, expecially if it annoys you as you cannot work on something due to it)

I'm just saying, life is hard but you can't avoid things for ever.

Although things may sound rude, you shouldn't brush them off, it makes you look bad.

I'm not the bad guy here, this is all advice if interprated right, complaints are also advice.
You can either learn from reading this post or just ignore it, it's up to you but either way not everyone thinks the same or likes the same stuff so you will always get complaints, weather they are said in a polite or rude manner, what makes the difference is how you deal with it.

Ive got it all sorted out, so please QUIT TALKING ABOUT THE LIGHTING. It'll be better in the next demo.
And I'm making it simpler to go through levels... So you should be able to see the rest.

And if you cant save it, Im putting Save Pads. They will be like little glowing pads that when you press ENTER on them it'll save your game and restore your ammo and health.

I have to admit, I'm somewhat excited about finally being able to play through the game. :P

The story is classic, but good and the mood is fitting. The enemies and resources are well made too.
I really like the feel and visual aspects of this game, but the layout is somewhat confusing. Make sure doorways and other ways to move from map to map are clearly indicted. Alot of times moving from one map to another would just be walking to a corner of the current map. Also, there are several places where you can't go backwards. I would make a reason for that kind of thing like air locks closing behind you that won't open again.

There was one map toward the beginning of the game that had soooo much fog that I couldn't even navigate through it until I pressed random buttons and started jumping and moving left and right until I met the zone at the top at random.

Also, the light belt didn't work. You might want to read up on how to make a flashlight.

Visually the first few maps look like mazes rather than the inside of a ship.

Overall this game is very good, it just needs a little re-toutching here and there.
