Lord of The Rings online going free to play!

Postby Ovoon » Fri Sep 10, 2010 3:57 pm

Didn't get the chance to get into LOTRO because it had a monthly fee? Well now you can play it for free as of today!
http://www.lotro.com
I highly recommend it, this is my personal favorite MMORPG, and it captures the feel of Lord of The Rings better than any other piece of media has.
But just because it's free doesn't mean that it wont have loads of microtransaction fee's. You have to pay to unlock most content after level 30 or so. But the game is so huge that it's worth it. If I get enough people interested, then perhaps I should have a contest to give out of Turbine points. I have a couple 5$ cards from PAX (up to two can be used per account I think but you never know )and some codes from the beta (Don't know the value). Perhaps I should have a contest for them?

Wow, why are they going free? and the things on premium/VIP users, it says "Earn able through game play". How do you earn it?

I'm assuming you've done some research ovoon.

I'm not entirely certain how you earn it actually. I think I heard that dungeon grinding gets you points, but I'm not sure. I doubt you could earn very much. They really want you to pay for everything in that game.

Still, fishing in that game is so much better then most MMO's (as I remember), and overall the game matched most of WoW. I only played the trial though, So I missed most of the late game.

Late game was the best part probably. Then once you were halfway into moria it went downhill, then it picked itself back up again once you got into Mirkwood. It's a LONG game. I never tried the fishing actually. :P

I was too raveled in the story and atmosphere. Trust me, if you want an MMO with awesome exploration, that one is it.

I actually think that when Cataclysm comes out, if the original wow and TBC become free when you buy the last two expansions, that I might have gone back. With LotR going free.... Free games tend not to have the best users. But knowing free games, very few of them will go onto the expansions. However, it's enough to get me lol. I'ma start the download in a few minutes, and I will most likely go all the way to end game depending how much time I find myself with.

LOL! Just look at the bottom of the screen! There are ads for it down there.
Once you have mastered the :usevalue:, you are a truly awesome 001er.

Ad's are smart, they actually take words from the page to try and advertise what is being discussed.

Wow  they know... (the ads)

I actually played this right when it came out :)
If your free you get the 3 starting areas

Yes you earn turbine points for doing quests (sometimes) and earning titles

Takes about 500 points to unlock other areas.
A whooping 5000 for an expansion pack.

But i suggest this game, cause i think it's funner then World Of Warcraft. (Checks bottom screen to see it a WoW ad pops up)

So... apparently, I have like 4000 free points for being on the game since 07. And I got 1000 points from PAx, and 1000 points from the beta. And I already had all of the expansions... sweet! :P

Actually, they don't give points for deeds that were already completed. They do for the rep deeds, so I got a whopping 120 points from them. :P

I'm level 19 now, but I'm a T2 mastery forester, and have enough wood to T2 mastery woodworking :P I can make some pretty strong weapons

The bow I'm using has 17.9 DPS, and I'm duel wielding hammers with 17.9 DPS with +6 agi, and +19 health on each. All I made myself :D I know level 21 hunters using bows with 12.3 dps because they don't have a high enough woodworking level

I can actually make bows for level 22, and it won't be long (I'm willing to farm stuff :P) before I can make level 22 purple bows :D

Awesome. You should hit 65 and make me some swords that can beat my current. My item build is lacking.

LOTRO (Lord Of The Rings Online)

Postby RPGking » Mon Oct 04, 2010 6:59 pm

Perhaps one of the greatest MMO's I have ever played. You can check it out here.

http://www.lotro.com

Its free to download and play although you can pay if you want to. There are 2 versions, a standrad version for lower end machines, and a High Def version for those with higher system specs. ( I run the High def version with all settings maxed as shown in the screens)

If you'd like to play with me, I play in the world Dwarrowdelf and my username or rather charcaters name is Thorindore. ;)
