New Renders

Postby Samulis » Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:23 pm

My favorite 3D program came out with a huge release including ambient occlusion and tons of other neat things so I've been working on a few neat shots recently that folks might appreciate. :)

Actually thinking about an in-depth medieval game after I finish off Hoplite.

Yeah, because every medieval game is identical, right? ;)

Good luck to both of you on your games :D

And yes, those renders are sexy.

Mine will probably be quite similar to Hoplite, just a bit more RPG-ish and with some medieval graphics.

Thanks, numbers. :)

Awesome renders! You've definitely got a knack for design.

You use iClone right? I recognize those mountains in the first pic.

♥ the last 2 pics. You should also consider trying Poser or Daz Studio.

Thanks. :)

I'm a icloner... I have no need to go into character stuff when I can just work with props and remain insolent regarding characters.

I'm kinda the same way. My props folder is way bigger than my character folder, and animating can be a real pain in the arse. Level design is fun though. Much more fun than animating.

If you feel like switching to the darkside, I do believe there's way more prop DLC for poser/daz, but it's probably way more expensive too depending on where you get it. At the same time, I think iclone can handle poser and/or daz formats, not sure though. I am sure it can handle .obj files though. Check out sharecg.com for a crapload of free stuff you can use for iclone if you haven't already.

This fella makes tons of free stuff for iClone... if I can't make something, I check here before asking someone to make it.

Some of them look like the renders from Age of Empires 2 intro movies, main menu renders etc. ! These are just fantastic!

Thanks, mate.

Here's a new one I did for the next version of The Hoplite. :D

And the new title screen as of now (ignore the sword-cursor):

I also have some neat shots I put together experimenting:

Only downside is that you have to buy the content and that you can't very easily bring stuff in and out of the program...

I also got live motion capture set up with a Kinect sensor the other day... I'll have to post something about that... It actually turned out pretty cool.

That's most 3d programs. I've wasted a lot of money on Poser content that I'll probably never use, but at least I supported some really great artists. Most of the stuff I use is free stuff from sharecg

So you can do motion capture now... I might have to steal you to make some bvh files someday

Actually the people who made Amnesia used a really cheap motion capture device and it worked really really well, obviously if you've ever played the game. I can't believe major studios actually spend hundreds of thousands or possibly millions of dollars on animating when they can do it for next to nothing just the same.

It seems to work best on broad gestures only... and the legs slip a bit. However, the company that makes the program has some neat stuff coming out soon with motions and such.
